American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Didnt you just say a few posts back that you are glad there are no Country singers in this top 24 because you hate the genre because your mom forced you to listen to it...I think that puts Carrie right there in that category...I for one thought she was the best singer that year....I didnt like her based on looks alone....That just added to it....as far as the lyrics to MacArthurs Park....Heck i dont even know...I couldnt tell you if I have even heard that song...Sorry....I think your post awhile back only proves my statement....I hate rock music but I liked Chris....didnt like Constatine.....It gives me the Heebies and the Jeebies when someone doesnt give a person a chance because of a genre or their looks for that matter....Just like Antonella she is getting bashed and we really havent heard her sing but about 30 seconds....obviously the judges heard something they liked....its sad cause she might be very good but will still get voted out....you know the editing on these shows....just like the judges telling Tommy they liked him from the beginning and telling Sundance he struggled....then keeping Sundance....:confused3

Check what I wrote. I said I didn't bash her ONLY because of the genre.

I personally like Faith Hill and shockingly enough, Kellie Pickler after AI even though I HATE country music. I don't like Carrie's total package, she's to me what Elliott is to you... :rotfl2: You have your druthers and I have mine. And I gave your girl a chance, I watched the entire season!! Loooooove Bo, though!

As with what seems like the entire rest of the planet, I don't agree with keeping Antonella over Marisa (sp?) on the final cut last night. I do get why Sundance would be kept instead of Tommy, but I have to wonder whether he was one of the best 12 guys. Anyhow, we shall see...

Chris Sligh has been my fave since the Hasselhoff comment. After reading his bio I am cheering for him even more.

Lakisha sure seems likable and is a quality singer. I doubt she'll make it very far unfortunately.

Sanjaya has "teen idol" written all over him. I predict he will do far better than Kevin did last year, filling the same slot. It's like comparing Prince Charming with Chicken Little. Based on the Stevie Wonder song he did, he has the pipes too.

Now for the things I'm not so sure about...
I forget her name, but DW and I cracked up at the woman with sandy blonde hair who seemed to sing just a wee bit off key and moved like a spaz in the interview room. Was that Gina maybe? :confused3 Guess it's time to learn my idols :surfweb:

One other person who made it to the final 24 that I thought was unexpected was the taller woman withe the short red dress who Randy was eye-balling last night. We didn't hear much of her Hollywood week, but the 10second clip they played was decidedly average IMO

Sundance?? I want to like the guy, but it's just not happening for me.

ETA: I would pay .99 RIGHT NOW for the "How Deep Is Your Love" cover done by Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh, etc.

I also like Chris and Lakisha, they are probably my two favorites. Although, I feel like I haven't heard everyone sing. They concentrated so much on the bad auditions.
I also agree about Antonella being picked over Marisa. I'm not sure what that was all about, but I'm assuming they think Antonella is more marketable.

I wasnt a fan of Bo....ok but not great....If I had to pick my favorite ever it would be Ruben....GOD he was amazing on that show....his voice was well wonderful....I am a 33 year old white male and I (laughing) melted when he sang....Taylor is a close second but his was more about stage appeal...then Carrie I guess.....she had a wonderful voice I just hate to hear people bash her....Chivalry I guess....LOL....I also respect her more after the Grammys because she didnt forget what got her there....I am not a fan of Faith Hill anymore after her display during the Academy of Country music awards....that was plan rude and sickening....I love me some Kellie Picler too....PICK PICKLER

The cookie-cutter white girls are starting to make me nauseous, and that Antonella is their poster girl. There is not a chance on this show for a rocker girl, have you noticed? The workout girl was gone, my Tammy with the lip ring, gone....even Marisa, I think it was- who was the last 2 with Antonella, was a little gritty and soulful and rockin. Gone.:confused3

We don't even have the token rocker dude this year do we? Maybe Chris, but eh, not really.

I agree with everything you said.

I have a feeling this year is going to be just so-so - not one voice stood out as unique/different/exciting to me.

Guess I'll be pulling for Chris Sligh - maybe someone else will impress me as they get into the competition.

I have been reading some of the Antonella post over on the AI boards and here are a couple I agree with and are very true...

"She forgot a few of the words but even Amanda forgot more. Ok to all you Melissa people:

1. The way Melissa acted after she got cut should show you that Antonella was a good pick and the judges made a good move by cutting her.

2. It was not Antonella's fault that she was in the last two. Imagine it was Leslie or someone in Antonella's spot (I thought Melissa was better than Leslie) then who would you be nagging? Leslie! It is not Antonella's fault! She has talent and Melissa was pretty too!

COME ON PEOPLE! SUPPORT THE GIRL, SHE CAN SING AND SHE'S A REALLY GOOD ROLE MODEL!"

"It was not a spot open to either Marissa or Antonella. They picked the top 12 girls and then they put together a show. They edited the clips for controversy. The judges picked the top 12 girls because the saw something in them. Marissa didn't make the cut"

"People seem to forget that there were 11 other girls who made it through over Marisa...but of course they choose to blame Antonella...after looking at Marisa and the way she handled herself when she didn't make it..it's probably a good thing she didn't...I doubt she could handle the day in day out pressure! "

these are just a couple...I think she deserves a chance

Do anyone else notice when they were introducing the top 12 guys the music in the background was Bo singing Vehicle!! :thumbsup2

It's not fair to compare Antonella to Marissa.
It's not her fault that the judges made the choice to put them last. I hope that people who like Marissa don't hold a grudge against Antonella.

Wishful thinking....but the claws are already out....It's as though people forget that there are 11 other girls who beat out Marisa ..not just Antonella....

There are two contestants I'm curious about, but I don't recall names. One was the girl that said she was a crack baby and the other was a young kid from Seattle. All I remember was that he had a hard luck story - not the one who got cut Tuesday night who doesn't hug his mother. All I can remember is he was interviewed in his home - good looking kid and a pretty decent voice. Am I being vaguer enough?

I understand what you're saying, but Antonella did make it in over Marissa, just like the other 11 girls did. I do like Antonella, but I thought Marissa was a good singer and better than some girls who were picked. I will definitely give Antonella a chance. I certainly don't blame her. It was the judges' decision and they made the decisions they made based on who they felt would make a good show. Sometimes it's not all about the voice and I'm not saying Antonella doesn't have a good voice, I think she does. I think people are a little surprised that Marissa didn't make it in.

I also agree that Marissa was a better singer than some of the other girls that they put through.

Of course DH made the comment that both girls have the same kind of look but Antonella was prettier so they picked her.

1st those are not my quotes they ar from the AI board....although I feel the same way...

2nd...I saw Marissa with Antonella last night and I had no clue who she was....I dont remember her in a group or the auditions....she was as Simon says forgettable...maybe that was her downfall...I dont know...but I for the life of me dont remeber her....I knew who Antonella was....AI made sure of that and that is part of the problem....of course who could forget Antonella...WOW....LOL....everyone will be given a chance from me now that I can really hear them sing 1 by 1....but as the show goes now Chris is the leader and its his to lose

Dont take it personal please...I said it jokingly...sorry if I offended you in any way....

Ah gotcha....that's my least favorite thing about the internet, I can never tell when people are joking are not! No harm done.

I just don't get it this season. I know, it's still early, but I'm really surprised who made it and who didn't. I'm still scratching my head over Antonella! Marissa sounded so much better then her, and Antonella forgot her words! I'm guessing that they're going with looks on that one, but Marissa is a pretty girl too. I feel like they've been shoving Antonella down our throats, and it bugs me. Then again, they tend to do that with a lot of the contestants.

I still love Chris, he's my favorite. But I have to say that when he sang his song in Hollywood with the background singers, he didn't sound as great. Then again, not many of them did. If he didn't have the funny personality, I dont' know if I'd like him as much.

I'm liking Gina too. But so far, I'm not super excited about seeing these contenstants perform this season, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of originality. Hopefully that will change!

I am wondering how they choose the last 2 for each category. Is it really "All the other 11 people we already picks were shoo-ins, but these specific two people were difficult for us to decide between"? Or is it just "These two people paired together will be the most difficult for the audience to guess which is going home"? Maybe they pick it out of a hat.

:confused3

I think it's really hard to form an opinion about who was a standout or who did better than others in Hollywood week, because they showed us so little actual singing from it! I don't remember seeing any clips of Marissa except for the one they showed along with the final two drama. I agree that in the battle of the two tiny clips we saw in that moment, she was way better than Antonella, but how can we say Marissa was better overall? We've just got so little to base any opinions on.

And about Antonella in particular - I was kind of glad to see her make it through (and this has nothing to do with comparing her to Marissa or anybody else). She stuck out to me from her very first audition because she seemed so overshadowed and controlled by her nasty best friend. I remember her talking about how her friend was the one with the "training", as if she herself was less worthy because she didn't have training. Also, they were talking about how the two of them would go shopping, and the nasty friend would always tell Antonella what to buy, as if Antonella was too stupid to pick her own clothes. I was just glad to see her go on without this toxic "friend", so she can stand on her own two feet for a change.

Sorry, didn't realize you were quoting from somewhere else.

I agree with you about Marissa though. I had no clue who she was either, but when they showed her singing last night, I thought she sounded great. This is part of the problem I have with the show this year, they showed so many of the bad auditions and not the good ones. It would have been nice to hear Marissa more than once to make a better judgment. Same goes for a lot of the other contestants that we heard only once. If they were shown more than once, they certainly didn't "spotlight" them as they did with others.
