American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Just a random thought. As Idol continues, I really believe a more mature  viewing group is beginning to get a handle on the voting. Even with the exact same group that formed last year's season, I don't believe Taylor could have won it all 4 or 5 years ago because the bulk of the voting was coming from a younger crowd.

This year I think we'll see that mature group again. The old fogies want substance, not fluff and we don't care if it looks unidol like.

Then again, you can bet that the Idol producers are hoping for a younger winner this year. Taylor's cd is tanking and he's being greatly overshadowed by Chris Daughtry (I'm not saying Daughtry should've won either).

The old fogies may want substance, but if they're not buying the cds, the producers will be pushing the young 'uns this year.

Well - I'll say it then - Chris SHOULD have won last year. No question about it. He was the best and still is.:)

So, after watching Hollywood Week and the video clips, I've gotta say that my favorite right now is Melinda Doolittle. Now, obviously, that's subject to change (and it probably will), but she's my pick right now. As for the guys, the only one that stands out to me is Chris Sligh - I don't know if he's a good singer, but he kinda reminds me of me personality-wise, I guess, so maybe that's why I like him.
;)

YES YES YES! Those are my two picks too.

Chris because he's so different. Melinda - because she's so dang talented but theres NO trace of arrogance or superiority - kwim?

That's what it is about Melinda. Yes, she has a great voice, but she also is very humble about the whole experience. I LOVE that Simon, unprovoked, stood up, called her over to him and said "I'm really pleased for you." He seems to like her and I always seem to agree with Simon, so I'm really not that surprised that I like her either.

He definitely should have won last year. But honestly I'm glad he didn't now! He put out a great album that was true to his heart. I can't imagine what kind of deal the idol producers would have made him take had he won.

IMO, Chris was better off not winning AI. He wouldn't of had the success I bet you if he had won AI. He's the best artist to release a CD to have it sell like it did that hasn't been the top two.

As Melinda Doolittle the African American backup singer? I think she has an awesome voice.

BTW - I also think Chris should have won last year. Disappointed that he didn't.

Just had to jump in and say how ticked off I am at the judges.

I finally fired up the DVR and caught up on AI.

Marisa should have been picked over Antonella. The judges said themselves that Marisa was the best they'd seen all day. Antonella, on the other hand, screwed up her lyrics - a rule that they were clearly enforcing earlier.

They chose Antonella on looks. Totally wrong. Marisa had the pipes.

What about the other 11 girls....it wasnt Marissa vs Antonells although producers made it look like it...they were both going for a top 12 spot....11 other girls beat Marissa in not just Antonella....same with Tommy and Sundance....its a shame the producers do it like that as I think it will hurt the one that got in....JMHO

Chris's Dead or Alive was way better than Hemmorhage (IMO). I have his album and am a big fan. He was truly the most talented of the season but I am happy he didn't win. He can do his own thing now and not have to put out pop crap like all the other idols did.

Jennasis-glad to see someone else on this board likes Chirs Daughtry.
Jeez-people really like to bash him and his voice on this thread. Considering his album went platinum, #1 rock album and #3 song on billboard, and he is doing better than just about every Idol out there I would say a large part of AI watching population likes him and his signing.
A few weeks ago he did a concert here in Chicago and people were lined up for hours to get in. If I didnt have to work that day I sure would have been there. I am happy he didnt win too. I never got the whole Taylor love last year. I have feeling this year it will be all about Chris Sligh. I think he will be the new Taylor. I already heard his fans are called "Fro Patrol".

Anyway-still looking forward to another season of AI.

what?? i've heard two whole people on this board who said they didn't like Chris, myself as one and i think Dan was the other one. everyone else on this board liked him. i don't get where the heck THAT came from.

i still don't considering Chris "Rock". i'm sorry, when you sound like Tool or Nine Inch Nails or even Queen............THAT'S when you are rock. singing Bon Jovi and Fuel?? no, sorry. that's not "rock" to me. that's "alternative, soft rock" and that's not anything to me. and his ego has just GOT to go. maybe if he humbled himself a bit, i'd like him a little more.

Chris wasn't going to win, you could tell from the beginning. i'm not saying i was a HUGE Katherine fan, but she had the best voice that season. i think that if Taylor hadn't won, she would have won. it was pretty easy to tell who was going to be voted off every week, i have a blog and i pretty much predicted who was going to go when. i was only wrong twice, and i was only a week off both times. i thought Ace would make it to the top 5, but he left at 6. and i thought Chris would make it to 3, but he left at 4. but other than that, everyone left when i figured they would.

I get what you're saying, but between those TWO - I think Marisa had it all over Antonella - and it looked ridiculous that Marisa got bumped right after the clip of Simon saying "She was the best we've seen all day" and Antonella messing up her lyrics.

I guess it was a misstep on the part of the judges and whoever does the editing - just made it all look more wrong.

No I never said I didnt like Chris....Taylor was my Favorite but Chris should have been in the finals....I have said I am not a rocker and that I think what hurt Chris was his refusal to change....Which I dont have a problem with you should stay true to who you are but to win Idol you got to change to the style you are singing....one reason I am not a big fan of artist weeks...I think the should stay songs from 1975...or songs from 1991....then you get a true sense of who the singer is and not what he isnt...Chris is not a Barry Manilow singer....Taylor could pull it off....but if they did say 1988 songs....Chris could do a big hair band song from say Motley Crue and Taylor could have done Rod Stewart or something....does that make sense

What you're saying does make sense. I think some of the categories they pick are really out there. A lot of the times they pick songs from the artist who shows up whether their songs are easy to sing or not. I don't think they've picked a Prince night, but could you imagine them trying to sing Prince songs. How many people can really do that?

I just watched Idol Chat on the TV Guide channel and they touched on some very interesting points...

First of all they showed Alaina Alexander's solo and she sang almost the entire song OFF KEY..?? :scared: I can't imagine what some of the "I'm going to Hollywood" rejects must've felt behind that.

They also questioned Sanjaya's inclusion. A second look at his solo solidified that for me, too.

Then they lambasted Sundance for his "job offer" to Tommy..:happytv: ... man, will he ever live that one down?

I am somewhat confused at what the producers were after this year. Maybe they wanted "ringers" and put some people up TO FAIL??? I wonder...

BTW, their faves were Chris Sligh, Chris Robertson and LaKeisha.

Just trying to take the thread BACK to Season Six!!! ;)

oh ok. sorry. i know someone else said it, i don't know why i thought you did. maybe it's just me then.......which isn't surprising lol

i have to agree. all of the "performers" that were on Idol last season, save for Shakira, were men. and yet all of the contestants had to sing one of their songs. so how is that fair?

That's exactly what I think they do so that there are easy people to vote off in the first few weeks. If everyone was good it would be way too hard to vote for the good ones, it would be like last year when it got down to the fianl 8 or so, I liked way too many of them and didn't vote at all until the last show.
