American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

Chris's Dead or Alive was way better than Hemmorhage (IMO). I have his album and am a big fan. He was truly the most talented of the season but I am happy he didn't win. He can do his own thing now and not have to put out pop crap like all the other idols did.

Jennasis-glad to see someone else on this board likes Chirs Daughtry.
Jeez-people really like to bash him and his voice on this thread. Considering his album went platinum, #1 rock album and #3 song on billboard, and he is doing better than just about every Idol out there I would say a large part of AI watching population likes him and his signing.
A few weeks ago he did a concert here in Chicago and people were lined up for hours to get in. If I didnt have to work that day I sure would have been there. I am happy he didnt win too. I never got the whole Taylor love last year. I have feeling this year it will be all about Chris Sligh. I think he will be the new Taylor. I already heard his fans are called "Fro Patrol".

Anyway-still looking forward to another season of AI.

You know.....Daughtry and Hicks lovers CAN live hand in hand in perfect harmony...........

I really like Chris's album, Taylor's is ok and I still like him but I liked him less after he didnt want his picture taken with me.

so first of all the Backstreet Boys thing is great, because they're the only "boy band" i ever really listened to!

and Simon is his ying AND his yang.....classic!

I have always loved the Backstreet Boys, so he just got extra brownie points!

I liked Chris's voice, I'm just not a fan of the screaming/rocker music. When he sang that love song (I think it was Keith Urban) I thought his voice was amazing. Heck it was good even when he was screaming. I was glad that he got voted off because I think winning Idol would NOT have been good for him. He would have been limited to what the Idol machine wanted him to do.

I hate to be argumentative, I really do, but isn't it kind of off topic to keep rehashing last season's results on this season's thread? Bear with me, because I'm guilty of it too. But we keep going back to the Chris/Taylor/Elliot debate, which shouldn't even be a debate because I can't think of 3 more different musicians (well, maybe, but....)

I realize that once this season really gets kicking, we'll be able to let season 5 go. I'm just sayin....is it relevant anymore? In fact, if we've learned anything, haven't we learned that there just isn't a right or wrong answer when it comes to good music? I mean, even the chart numbers don't reflect that, so who are we to say.

Just saying - maybe we (me included) should try to stay on the topic. Go ahead, correct me if I'm wrong.

Did anyone else realize that NONE of the top 24 are from Alabama? After all the references to Reuben, Bo and Taylor that were made, you'd think that the judges would have selected one semi-finalist from Alabama, no?

A little news to get some speculation going:

'Idol' Producer Promises Biggest Surprise Yet; Dispels Jackson Rumors
By Alex Romanelli
Within the next two weeks “American Idol” viewers will see “the biggest thing to happen to ‘Idol’ in five years,” according to Nigel Lythgoe, the show’s executive producer.
"It does include ‘American Idol,’ and it does include America," he told TelevisionWeek Editorial Director Chuck Ross.

Mr. Lythgoe also dispelled rumors that Michael Jackson will be making an appearance this season, contradicting news reports that said the pop star would appear on the talent show.
It sounds to me like there might be some sort of change in the voting? I'd love to see them limit the number of calls for a specific contestant. Perhaps they could be going in that direction.
My true choice would be that the fans could vote off the contestant of their choosing instead of the other way around?

What does everybody think "the biggest thing" could be?

I don't know about changing it to voting someone off, because it is a popularity contest, but I do agree with limiting the number of calls. I think you may get a "truer" winner if everyone is limited to a call or two.

I wish like heck they would take the voting to the internet where you would be allowed to vote once. I suppose the hackers could get to that though? Even though I did it myself, it's ridiculous that you vote by doing redial, redial, redial. Then have Ryan stand up there and say things like "we received more votes than in the last presidential election." :rotfl2: Ryan, dude, we're not idiots. The last election was not decided by 13 year olds hitting a redial button for 3 hours!

I'm nosy, can you say what happened? I had heard that Taylor wasn't that friendly and not well liked by the AI people.

Here is a video of Blake Lewis...the first part of it is all beat-boxing, but he really starts singing at about 2:30 into it, if you want to listen to his voice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IewtVZ3LSI&NR

ETA: It's from a "techno" kind of performance, so if you hate all hints of electronica, this might not be for you! :-)

Another note on the Bailey Brown thing...She said she DID stay up all night by herself trying to memorize the lyrics, but without the other girls with her to rehearse the whole thing with, I guess it was tough.

None of the finalists are FROm Alabama but several were discovered in Birmingham. I'm shocked there aren't any NC'ers in the house this year!

Wasnt it Bailey that asked for heelp in the bathroom and the one girls said when I help you I mess up....thats why in a competition like this you got to look out for #1...She should have never went to sleep it she was unsure of her lyrics...I still blame Bailey for messing up....but it sounds like the other 2 were only for themselves...which is ok...I guess its cut throat

I was so bummed when Bailey got cut!!!When they first introduced her I said "that's gonna be the winner!" then she was cut! The other girl in her group that ended up in the final 12 messed up her lines too, but just not as bad. She was in a group with 2 jerks who spent so much time picking a song that would be perfect for them, and she didn't have any say. Then by the time the picked their perfect song, she didn't have time to learn the lyrics. She is just a kid, and had a beautiful voice, I was shocked they didn't cut her a little slack.

Do anyone else notice when they were introducing the top 12 guys the music in the background was Bo singing Vehicle!! :thumbsup2

When they were introducing the top 12 girls they were playing one of Katharine McPhee's songs too.

Ok:)
a couple of hours before the concert my mom and I went outback where people were waiting to see the idols, about 15 minutes later we spot Taylor and Taylor was the only reason I went to the AI concert so I was really excited to see him,,, he was signing autographs and taking pictures and had just got done taking a picture with another girl and as he walked towards me I asked "Taylor can I have my picture taken with you" Taylor says,, "I cant" he then looked down at his feet and started to walk away.
I then said "but you just took a picture with them" he then turned around and let me have my picture, as I left he was taking a picture with someone else. (I get to meet him and what do I do argue with him lol:) )

I was grateful he changed his mind but it felt forced and therefore not as special.
I wouldnt have felt bad if he wasnt taking pictures with anybody, it just felt awful to be the only one turned down.

I'd love it if they changed the voting to more the way Dancing with the Stars does it. However many contestants there are, that's how many votes you get. If there are 10 choices then you can vote once for all of them or give all 10 to one person.

Just joining in for the season. A little background on me -- I caught the McPheever last season (partly because of her voice and partly because of...well, if you ladies can ogle a man like Chris Daughtry, I can do the same for McPhee ;) ) and then she went and released some run-of-the-mill RnB thing that sounds like something a Disney Channel "star" would release. So...let's just say I'm a little disappointed in Katharine.

I'm one of the people who doesn't watch Idol until Hollywood Week 'cause I can't stand that they just parade the fools out while the good ones get a few minutes here and there.

Anyway, I have, admittedly, been keeping up with the show via the video clips on rickey.org.

So, after watching Hollywood Week and the video clips, I've gotta say that my favorite right now is Melinda Doolittle. Now, obviously, that's subject to change (and it probably will), but she's my pick right now. As for the guys, the only one that stands out to me is Chris Sligh - I don't know if he's a good singer, but he kinda reminds me of me personality-wise, I guess, so maybe that's why I like him.

And, I know I may be alone on this, but can we please get rid of Sundance in week one? ;)

Just had to jump in and say how ticked off I am at the judges.

I finally fired up the DVR and caught up on AI.

Marisa should have been picked over Antonella. The judges said themselves that Marisa was the best they'd seen all day. Antonella, on the other hand, screwed up her lyrics - a rule that they were clearly enforcing earlier.

They chose Antonella on looks. Totally wrong. Marisa had the pipes.
