American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Gideon- It was good but it sounded sorta of like something that belonged in church not AI.

Wow, funny you should say this. This was not a "religious" song, more of a prophetic epitaph for Sam Cooke sung mostly like a Negro spiritual. This song was released after Cooke was tragically killed. It's now a representative song of the 60s Civil Rights movement.... my moment of AA history and trivia is now OVER!! :teeth:

That said, I think Gideon did a wonderful job with it, even though I'm not a big fan of his. His smile and cockiness sort of gets to me but last night I recognized why he is so cocky!

Okay, this is a stupid little thing but...does anyone watch whats going on on that catwalk thingie during the performances? I was watching Gedeon and he was severely annoying me. He just stood right in the middle of one of those sections....he really stood out. Now, people were squished on each side of him, but he didn't move an inch. And the order of the guys up there did change from time to time but Gedeon was always in the same spot...smack dab in the middle so that when the camera took a side head shot of the performer, they also got a good look at Gedeon. Just seemed curious to me.

Liked Elliot more than I thought I would.

Taylor really needs to stop the woohooing and such. Too distracting.

David is in over his head, but I do like his sound.

Kevin, well, he's Kevin. Over his head, but seems to be a terrific person.

Sway..please send him home.

Ace I have liked but I'm not liking the sound so much. I think he's trying to be Constantine.

Bucky I liked tonight. Haven't liked him up until tonight though. I like his choice of song and presentation.

Chris was terrific. Not my style of music, but he sold me.

Gedeon I wish would go home, there is just something I don't care for.

Will I like but don't think he will last too long.

Tonight I would like to see Gedeon and Sway go home. Not much depth in this group of guys. I think some of them are pretty good, but I'm not sure what's going to happen to them when they have to move to different genres. That should be interesting.

Thanks for the history on the song. :)

YES! I have been watching the performers on the catwalk...singing everybody else's song and trying hard to be noticed while the other performer is "on". It is hilarious (and occassionally annoying). I wonder if they are lip-synching the song or singing along? I wonder if the performer can hear them? That would be really distracting. Some of the dance moves going on up there are hysterical.

Ok, am I the only one that can't stand Bucky? I thought he butchered that Garth Brooks song!

I would get rid of Bucky and David. Every song that David sings is in the same tone.

Yup!!! :rotfl:

At first I didn't think he was all that but after the last couple of weeks he's sort of growing on me - I'm not a country music fan by any means but I really liked what he sang last night - I thought he was very good but what do I know, I liked Constantine last year!! :rotfl2:

Ok, I think it is just me then! :) I couldn't stand Constantine either! :duck:

No, you're not alone, I don't like him at all. I just can't stand the sound of his voice when he's singing and when he's speaking as well.

I tried really hard to like Ayla because she lives a couple of towns away from me but I just can't warm up to her. I'm also concerned about the fact that she has a full basketball scholarship to BC. I find it hard to believe that she would give that up for American Idol. I'd hate to think that she isn't planning on going all the way with AI because if that's the case she could be taking the spot away from someone else who really wants it.

I can't stand Bucky either. I have a knckname for him already.

I'm not a Bucky fan. The dude needs some Chloraseptic or something! The Thunder Rolls is one of my favorite Garth songs, and I feel that Bucky kinda butchered it.

I see some people thinking Kevin may go home tonight. Sure, his song sucked last night, but they are pimping him like crazy with all the chicken little and sex symbol (???) joke stuff. He is not going anywhere tonight.

Couple of observations :)

It is fun to watch them behind the performers on the catwalk. Except for girls night when Brenna is back there shaking her head and dissing the girl singing. Taylor and Bucky must be close because I see them back there together quite a bit and sometimes Chris too. Did you guys catch last night during David's song where it looked like Bucky was trying to get Taylor to do a waltz or something with him? :rotfl: The guys look like they are genuinely having fun.

On David as a crooner. I dunno. Crooners to me should sound very smoooooooth with their singing voice. Last night David was singing like Woody Woodpecker at times with some of the notes making his voice go up and down. He's got the "crooner" look and presence down pat - he needs to work on the quality of his singing to match though.

I thought Will did an awesome job with his song last night and was surprised he didn't get a better reaction. Maybe it was just because he is so young and the song is quite a bit more "mature" than him. I think he handled it very well and his tone reflected the different moods in the song perfectly.

Of course maybe I'm a little biased towards Will. If he turned his hair a dark blonde he would be the twin of DW MeanLaureen's Nephew (okay, guess that makes him my nephew too.. :rotfl: Hey, the kid was 8 when I met Lauri, okay?) Funny thing is, his older sister who is 16, our neice, looks EXACTLY like Katie Holmes and her name is even Katie. Now everywhere I look on TV I see family. :teeth:

On Simon, I'm agreeing with him 95% of the time. Sometimes I wonder what planet Randy and Paula are on. (Okay, make that all the time with Paula).

And you know, I got the feeling that Simon's "talk" to Taylor last night was not anywhere near a bash or being critical. To me, it almost seemed like Simon was sincerely grooming him to do better because he is looking at him to be a possible finalist. I think Simon's opinion of Taylor has done a complete 180 since the auditions and he has seen the buzz Taylor is getting and all he can see when he looks at him now is dollar signs in front of his eyes. Kind of like last night with Ace when he botched the song - you could see visions of dollar signs fading OUT of Simon's eyes. ;)

YIKES! Two big rumors about Katharine.

She's pregnant! You know I thought she looked a bit puffy on Tuesday night and the outfit was trying to hide something. On the AI board over at Fox someone else brought it up too.

And the other one is that she was voted off. This was reported on my local Fox station as a reliable rumor. Isn't that an oxymoron? :scratchin

Anyway, that's the latest dirt.

There have been rumors flying around all week (even before the taping of the episode) about Katharine. The rumors were basically that she left the show. I also read the pregnancy speculation. If this is true (which I highly doubt, but if it is) I expect she will be "voted out" tonight, but it wasn't because she got the lowest amount of votes.

Yeah, ditto here.

Even if she is pregnant, I don't think it would affect her voice. I'd still vote for her. I hope she's not out. She certainly isn't one of the weaker singers. I will simply throw a hissy if Brenna is not out!

Kevin - why is he still there, people? WHY??? "Sex symbol"??? He's NOT cute. He's NOT adorable. His voice is average compared to the rest of the guys. I don't want to pinch his creepy little cheeks. Vote him off already!!! I don't get how David is still there either.

Chris, Taylor, Ace and Bucky are my favs, in that order. But I have to say, Gedeon was pretty good last night!

I can see where the pregnant rumours would come from. However, if she was pregnant, she probably wouldn't be dressing that way.

so this carrie song, i could do without. sorry, not a fan and never was :crazy2: jesus take her microphone away!

okay, now that my carrie-oke bashing is over....i really loved the group song tonight! :goodvibes they showcased the girls instead of the guys. everytime mandisa opens her mouth i can't stop smiling :teeth: she's fantastic!

Mandisa, not in bottom 3! ;) Kinnick is IN the bottom 3 and so is Brenna.
