American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

The morning team on the local radio station I listen to (105.1) were really slamming American Idol this morning. They were upset about the Pizza/Salad comment & were saying how out of it Paula seemed. I didn't get to see the show last night, but it sounds like Paula was definitely on something.

I'm with you here. I think I ranted every time she was on, so the video at the end was painful for my family. And how on earth does she expect to "make money" when she could not even make it to the top twelve????????? I think that she has herself confused with someone who can perform.

Like pretty much everyone else, I was pretty happy with the choices last night. As ShuIsFan note, it also goes to show that a lot of us - including me - placed a lot more importance on that VFTW nonsense than it actually warrants. Maybe their overblown self-importance just rubbed off . But America definitely got it right last night.

From now on, though, it starts to get a lot tougher, particularly on the girls side. Here is how I would rate the remaining contestants:

Overall
Taylor - I will own his album, win or lose this competition
Chirs - Absolutely as good as any rock artists on the market right now
Katherine - Not sure what it is, but I love her voice
Lisa - That this kid is this talented at this young of an age is just disgusting...lol
Ayla - It ain't all "hard work". This kid's got talent, too.
Bucky - He sold me with his Garth performance this week. Might have trouble outside his wheelhouse, though.
Elliott - Would be higher if he could sing something other than Stevie. Good voice, just not my style.
Kelly - She's great...at times. At others...not so much.
Paris - Hasn't lived up to her incredible audition. No question the talent is there, she just isn't showing it.
Ace - Could be higher if he'd drop the Constantine act. Couldn't care less if he's gay or not. (So is Elton John, and he's one of my all-time favorite artists)
Will - Still think he's a young Donny Osmond. I don't really like Donny Osmond.
Mandisa - REALLY needs to work on her song choice. I'm a HUGE Faith Hill fan, and she butchered that song.
Melissa - In other seasons, she may have been higher on the list. Nice tone to her voice, but I don't think she can hang with the people above her on this list.
Kinnik - I can't get past the fact that she looks like a female impersonator. Decent voice, but not in the class of the girls above her.
Gedeon - Much better this week, but then I LOVE the song he sang...but Taylor did it 100 times better in his audition, with no music at all.
Kevin - Kid's got a decent voice, but he's in WAY over his head with the talent they have this year.

Overall, I'd say this has the potential to be one of - if not THE - best final 12 groups since the show started. There seems to be a pretty good mix of styles, and any of my top 5 could win and I wouldn't complain at all. If America keeps voting like they did this week, it could really become something great.

Well I guess those rumors about KAtherine were not true (at least for now). I'm thrilled with the results (I detested Brenna..not her singing...her tude).

Paula was HIGH as a kite. They had better rein her in!

The next ones to go will probably be Bucky and Will (Though it should be Gedeon) and Melissa and Kinnik (though I like Melissa)

When Ryan had 2 girls on stage for the elimination he asked Paula why those 2 were up there and she said something like "because one ate pizza and the other ate salad". When they had the 2 guys up there she was asked the same question and she said (paraphrasing) " Simon looks at a fortune cookie and it says when a moth goes to a melon it will go to a cornflake".

It was very bizarre and the contestants looked very hurt. I like Paula, but she was very disrespectful last night.

Did anyone else notice that Carrie Underwood was wearing 2 hearing aids last night? Maybe she has had them all along, but I never noticed them before. I haven't followed her that closely, but I am curious as to whether this is an old or new problem.

I have noticed lately a lot of singers wearing them. I think it is just a music feed or something. I could be wrong though.

I was more disgusted with the actions of the judges. I thought they were very disrespectful to all the contestants. I almost wanted to turn the channel. They were also insulting the viewers intelligence. I hope they we watch the tapes and see how stupid they acted. They should apologize to everyone for their behavior. We take the time to watch . They should for that hour look like they are interested. I'm sure they enjoy their paychecks. The one that must have big problems is Paula. Someone needs to have a talk with her. I don't think Dr. Phil did much. The contestants that left were the ones I hoped for. Except Sway. I think he sounded very good.

I don't think they were "hearing aids" as the term is usually used. Most musicians these days use an in-ear "monitor" to hear how they sound when they are singing. I just assumed that she was doing the same thing they were.

What gets me about her is, never fails, on the boys singing night, she'll wear a really low cut top and then she'll do all she can to stick them out! on the girls nights, she's alot more conservative! She needs to watch the playback of last night to see what a fool she made of herself! I'm glad everyone else noticed, how could you help NOT notice, lol!

I did notice on the boy's night that she was showing everything but the nipples. God she was so high last night. How disrespectful.

And for another thing...GOOD RIDDANCE BRENNA. Not only was she bottom three, but DEAD LAST. Sweet. And what is Heather's problem? She always looks like she's scowling.

I also thought it was quite odd to have last year's winenr singing as a guest so early on in the competition. I figured she'd so up later on...maybe when we were down to 6? She's got a great voice, but I just can't stand country music.

Sway: Not a fan of his voice but seems like a sweet guy, felt bad he had to go

David: Not a fan of his voice either, Bing Crosby he isn't, would have liked to see if he could sing another genre though

Kevin: Sorry to say, it's time for him to go, although seems like a sweet kid

Will: Thought he did a great job with the song, would like to see a little more from him

Bucky: I love him, think he did a great job with the Garth song, but I'm a big country music fan anyway

Taylor: Love, love, love his voice and style, he cracks me up!!

Ace: Still not sure about him, need to hear more

Chris: He rocks!!

Gedeon: Would definitely buy a gospel album of his, would also like to hear a little more before I can make a decision

Elliot: My husband thinks he has a great voice, I hate Stevie Wonder so didn't like the song choice, so far I'd rather listen to Chris, Taylor, and Bucky

THE GIRLS

Heather: Forgettable, really messed up the song

Brenna: Couldn't stand one more minute of her, basically thought she sucked

Kellie: Adorable, good voice, not sure she can be great

Ayla: Thought she did a great job, need to hear more from her

Mandisa: Pretty voice, not crazy about her version of the song, so far not my top choice

Lisa: Like her alot, can't wait to hear more

Paris: Great voice, but gets on my nerves somewhat, too cutesy, sort of fake

Kinnik: My husband swears she is a female impersonator, she's okay, not anywhere near my favorite, wouldn't be sad to see her go

Melissa: Is okay, didn't think she was as good as the judges thought, wouldn't bother me to see her go

Katherine: Love her voice, hope she amps it up a little to show what she's got

Obviously country music fans beg to differ as she was #1 with that song for 6 weeks in a row, in Billboards Hot Country songs chart,being one of only 5 other women artists there, tying with Faith Hill (Breathe)

I think that's pretty darn good.
