American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

My favs are:

Ace :cloud9:
Chris :thumbsup2
Will
Taylor :woohoo:

The men overall did a great job tonight :Pinkbounc

I am to old for Will but my girls thought he was really cute but "momma" loved Ace... Taylor is just refreshing and I have to admit I think that little boy... oh what is his name... Kevin seems like the nicest kid.

will have sweet dreams w/ those hotties tonight.............

never cared for that "rule" either. A lot more talent in the guy catagory but there are a few girls-Lisa T-that will give them a run for their money.

Taylor is a hometown boy. The southerners will have busy phones for the next two hours!!

My brothers live in B-ham and they are really pulling for Taylor. :thumbsup2

Patrick :crazy2:
David- :scared:
Bucky- Decent.
Will- Yeh, no, that was terrible.:scared:
Jose "Sway" whatever- :scared: I'm so confused Paula and Randy were hearing what we heard? Amazing? yeh amazingly bad.
Chris- Wow, he has a great voice. :thumbsup2
I really, really, really dislike Paula
Kevin- I'm beginning to wonder how some of these guys got in the final 24.
Gideon- I liked him, he was a lot of fun with a great voice. :thumbsup2
Elliot- I really like his voice, it has a great quality to it and I like that he didn't need all the glory notes. He has a powerful voice yet it's still masculine and not Broadway. :thumbsup2
Bobby- :rotfl2: I thought... :rotfl: :lmao:
Ace- Am I the only one that doesn't think he's hot? Yeh, I am? OK. George Michael? Interesting choice. :confused3:
Taylor- I can't be bias because I hate the song he sung, I'll wait till next week.

Top picks- Chris, Elliot and Gideon

Loved your rundown! :thumbsup2 Anyway, I liked Chris, Ace, Elliott and Taylor - did not like David, Kevin or Bobby (Barry Manilow? And then he compared himself favorably to him! I like Barry, but he's pretty outdated). I agree that George Michael was an odd choice - I always found that song a little creepy - it's ok as long as you don't listen to the words. And he did sound good doing it. I was surprised Taylor wasn't a bit better on Levon - should have been a great choice for him, and it was good, but not great. And I'm glad Paula put a name to Will - he does indeed look like Peter Brady! :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl2: I agree! :thumbsup2

My thoughts on the night: Overall I think girls are more talented and I think there are too many "nerdy" guys in the field and most of them need to work on their stage presence.

1. Patrick - Come to my Window
Blah, blah...what was he saying about angst? He didn't show any in his performance. He turned a beautiful rock song into a pop disaster. He should stick with ballads. And who was his friend in the audience? :scared: Can we say collagen lips. :lmao:

2. David - Crazy little thing
I thought it was ok. On the recap it sounded worse.

3. Bucky - Simple Man
It was refreshing to hear some rock after the first two performers. Love the rough southern rock vibe.

4. Will - I want you back
Oh he's a cutie! :thumbsup2 But it was just an ok performance.

5. Sway - Reasons
Ouch! :headache: This was painful! I think he made a huge mistake not showcasing his real voice. I don't understand what Randy and Paula were raving about. :confused3

6. Chris - Dead or Alive
HELLOOOOO CHRIS! Awesome performance. I think he looks just like Bruce Willis when he sings. Simon seemed ready to crown him American Idol...so was I. :lmao:

7. Kevin - One last cry
Better than I expected from this little guy. Is he the next Clay? I'm not a Clay fan so I don't really care. :duck:

8. Giddeon - Shout
I did not enjoy his overly confident attitude. Really turned me off from his performance. The live audience seemed to like it but I didn't feel like the energy of his performance came across to the home audience.

9. Elliot - If you love me
Yes it was somewhat good but it wasn't THAT good. :confused3

10. Bobby - Copacabana
The big guy was entertaining! He's like a big disney character! :rotfl2: I think (and hope) that Simon's comments will get him sympathy votes because I want to see more of him.

11. Ace - Father Figure
It's Constantine part 2! :rotfl2: But with a better voice and better googly eyes! Loved Paula's gay vote comment! :lmao: Really impressed that he thanked the back-up singers. :thumbsup2 But is he really that nice of a guy? I almost think he's too good to be true KWIM?

12. Taylor - Levon
I don't know what the soul patrol is but I want to join! :teeth: Great performance!!! Though I have to admit that I was expecting better after having listened to his 3 songs on the net.

Going home: Sway and either Giddeon or David or Patrick or....wow it's going to be a close one I think.

Top picks: Taylor and Chris!

Yes, the words are a bit 'creepy'. However, I do believe it would be a really good song for Michael Jackson.

I didn't care for Gedeon or Sway at all...yuk! I thought Chris, Elliott and Ace were great and I actually liked Taylor this time since he didn't do that thingthat made him look like he was having a seizure on stage!

Did you just see Ace's brother in the audience?? Even hotter!

I spotted him! :thumbsup2 That family has good genes! :lmao:

I thought Will was cute. :teeth: Ace was very very good. Probably my favorite performance.

Sandy22, I'm in total agreement. (Except for Ace, and his brother! Even my 8 year old was sweating!)

As for the guy v. girl, I thought the girls, as a group, did better. There were more BAD performances last night, but more mediocre ones tonight. Really, only Ace, Taylor and Chris brought it home. Elliot did well. The rest were just not good. Not bad enough to say "Go HOME" (like Brenna), but also not good enough to say 'hmmmm' (like Ayla). My 8 year old left, she was bored. (well, until Ace came back!) [we need a yawning smilie!]

Anyone else notice that if someone picked a song for sentimental reasons (both nights), it was the WRONG song. Bobby, Sway, Brenna, Kelley, et al.

I liked Sway. If you listen to the original song sang by Earth, Wind, and Fire he was right on... :thumbsup2

My other picks are Ace  , Chris, Elliott, and Taylor

I want to hate Ace. But...... I was impressed!

Once again, I am not sharing with you all who is getting my votes..... LOL!

Since I mostly agreed with Sandy22, I'm quoting her..........it's also because I can't ever remember their names.

Didn't quite agree on this one. He was okay. I don't think it's time for him to go yet. He really has a good voice and I'd like to hear another week of him. OMG! I had to go back to his performance twice to check out Hot Lips! puckerup:

2. David - Crazy little thing
I thought it was ok. On the recap it sounded worse.

This was painful. I really liked him since he looks so much like Harry Connick, Jr. but this performance was something you'd see one of those lip synch shows. Can anyone say "Puttin on the Hits"? :crazy2:

3. Bucky - Simple Man
It was refreshing to hear some rock after the first two performers. Love the rough southern rock vibe.

His vocals were a bit scratchy, but I'll bet there were some redneck women fanning themselves tonight! I enjoyed his performance but I hope to see him sing some country. :thumbsup2

4. Will - I want you back
Oh he's a cutie! :thumbsup2 But it was just an ok performance.

I agree. Just okay. I did expect Jan, Marsha, Cindy, Greg, and Bobby to come on out and sing "Sunshine Day" with him. :rotfl2:

5. Sway - Reasons
Ouch! :headache: This was painful! I think he made a huge mistake not showcasing his real voice. I don't understand what Randy and Paula were raving about. :confused3

I think my ears are still bleeding. Maybe I just don't like Falsettos (sp?) but take it down a but, will ya? Please let him sway his but back to where he came from. :listen:

6. Chris - Dead or Alive
HELLOOOOO CHRIS! Awesome performance. I think he looks just like Bruce Willis when he sings. Simon seemed ready to crown him American Idol...so was I. :lmao:

Hot, Hot, Hot! And he sings great. Bo, there's a new rocker in town and I think he will go far. I like that he can pull off more than just rock. I can't wait to see more of him. :lovestruc

7. Kevin - One last cry
Better than I expected from this little guy. Is he the next Clay? I'm not a Clay fan so I don't really care. :duck:

I'm not sure on this one. While I think his voice is nice, he just doesn't fit the mold. And, to agree with someone earlier, the lisp is a bit distracting. I hope he gets one more week, though. I think he'd be great singing on a Disney soundtrack. :scratchin

8. Giddeon - Shout
I did not enjoy his overly confident attitude. Really turned me off from his performance. The live audience seemed to like it but I didn't feel like the energy of his performance came across to the home audience.

In Hollywood, I didn't want him to make it. He seems to have a Kanye West, "I'm the greatest thing in the world" kind of attitude and it's actually a big turn off. But, I did like the old school song and he really played it up. I'll give him one more week.

9. Elliot - If you love me
Yes it was somewhat good but it wasn't THAT good. :confused3

I agree. It was good, but not the best ever. There's something about him that bugs me and I can't put my finger on it yet. He kind of has that Scott Savol feel to me. :confused3

10. Bobby - Copacabana
The big guy was entertaining! He's like a big disney character! :rotfl2: I think (and hope) that Simon's comments will get him sympathy votes because I want to see more of him.

What in the heck was that? It was just plain disturbing. How did this guy make it to the top 12? I felt like I was watching a talent show at a retirement home. :lmao:

I love this guy. He's oozing talent and charisma. He's a shoe in for a recording contract, but he doesn't have anything unique about him. He could be any guy on the radio today. I'll still sit up and drool every time he performs, though.

12. Taylor - Levon
I don't know what the soul patrol is but I want to join! :teeth: Great performance!!! Though I have to admit that I was expecting better after having listened to his 3 songs on the net.

My absolute favorite of the night. Having only seen him briefly on the auditions, I kept wondering what all the fuss was about. His jerky moves really creeped me out before, but now I wanna be in the Soul Patrol too! :smokin:

Going home: Sway and David.

Top picks: Taylor and Chris and Ace

TAYLOR!!!!!!!!

(Chris was good as well--and I was swayed by the thread as I was working and this was tivo'd and I was reading and watching between calls...but Ace--wasn't really impressed, but looks will get him through.)

I don't know but he looked like he should be married to his mother!

Really easy to get through on the phone lines now.
Voting for some people who I don't think were the best, but I want to see them one more time before they get the boot.

okay, this 47 yo middle aged woman just fell out of her chair...

I think the contest is over. Sorry folks.

OMG...my heart is all aflutter over Ace (and I'm 47 too) mY 13 year old has told me I'm embarrassing her...because I've watched it 3 times already!

My picks:

Ace
Taylor
Chris
Elliot

I liked the young guys Kevin, David, Will, but think they need some polish.

Patrick..not sure on him, I think it was a bad song choice.
Sway....really bad song choice, he sounded so good in the Hollywood round
Bobby...Jackie Gleason...I was trying to put my finger on it...that is who he reminded me of, he was fun to watch though.
Gedeon...I kept waiting for himto turn into Little Richard! His little video clip before hand was so stilted, it didn't sound natural at all. He did get the crowd on their feet though.
Bucky...doesn't do it for me at all!
