American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Can someone post all the song choices again in one post? I keep seeing reactions to Elliots songs but I guess the titles have been deleted or something. I went back a dozen pages but only saw something like Paulas choice for Elliot is: and then blank yet everyone is going WOW!!!! Clue us all in please!!

Usually if it is "blank", the person has typed that portion with white font to make it appear invisible (spoilers). You need to highlight that section so you can read it.

It has taken me this long to post. I am soooooooo soooooo bummed Chris got bumped. I won't even go into how I think the phones were jammed.
I don't even know how I can really watch Idol for the rest of the season because the best is really gone. It's like the life is out of the show for me at least. And seeing them on tour blah, I don't want to see the rest of them I just want to see chris. I have never felt this way about past idol contestants. I guess he really does have true fans. I have never heard of fuel so not sure if he should or shouldn't join that band, but I really can't get enough of him and I hope he doesnt fade into the background like so many other runners up. He seems like such a good guy to on top of it all unlike some of the other Idols this season and on past seasons.

I think the gen. consensus on the thread was it was OK to post the judges choices.
As far as I know both Elliott's and Taylor's are confirmed. Not so sure about Kat's?
But I have seen the same one for her posted on multiple sites.

So here you go:

Paula picked for Elliott: "What You Won't Do for Love" Bobby Caldwell
Randy Picked for Taylor: "You Are So Beautiful" Joe Cocker
Simon picked for Kat: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Judy Garland/Wizard of Oz

Rumors:
(highlight below if you want to read - these are unconfirmed and may be complete speculation, so I'll hide them)

Clive Davis choices
Elliott: possibly a Journey song - I've seen "open Arms" floating around, but I'd consider it speculation for now
Taylor: "Walking in Memphis" or "Hurt So Good" or "Desperado" :confused3
Kat: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" I've also seen rumors about a Heart song

Contestant choices
Elliott: possibly a Ray Charles song - don't know which one, several choices have been mentioned
Taylor: Try A Little Tenderness
Kat: "God Bless the Child" however, I've also seen "Man I Feel Like A Woman" that does not seem too likely - but since I added the unconfirmed caveat, I'll keep it on for now

I'm not sure how reliable ANY of these are.

* edited to add to the unconfirmed list

Thanks for posting the songlist. I think Randy picked the perfect song for Taylor. Taylor's voice & persona remind me a lot of Joe Cocker (minus the drug use, of course ;) ).

If the two choices I've seen for Katherine hold, I don't think she'll make it to the finals.

Not familiar with Elliott's judge's choice.

agnes!

I'm pretty bummed out still, too. People say the phone lines were fine that night and it's all nonsense, but there were posts on the AI boards last Tuesday night about people getting Katherine's line...LOTS of people....::yes::

Fuel is a pretty big rock band that would take off with Chris! :rockband:

If Taylor does (highlight):

Try a Little Tenderness

...and I'm sure he will -- they may just lose the roof on that place. Good thing they're moving to a new theater next week

Apparently all of the Clive Davis spoilers are false and Katharine will not be choosing Man I Feel Like A Woman. We'll have to keep our ears to the ground for spoilers!!! :)

A lot of people have said this, and I do thing most will recognize the song when they hear it (unless of course you're much younger than me) ;)
Here: I'll "SING" it for you:

"What you won't do... do for love...
You tried everything, but you don't give up...
In my world only you...
Made me do for love what I would not do.

My friends wonder what is wrong with me
But I'm in a daze from your love you see...
I came back to let you know
Got a thing for you and I can't let go..."

I think it's a great choice for Elliott!

You are so right! I have nothing left for the show. I could careless at this point who wins. I really enjoyed listening to Chris sing. He will be missed. I think alot of people feel the same way. I hope they loose alot of viewers. I know I won't be watching anymore. I think I will not get involved with the show next season either.

I have a few questions for all of you who are giving up on the show because Chris was voted off. Did you all spend two hours voting to keep him on the show? If you did, did you ever get Kat's voice? If a total recount was done by a third party and everything was determined to be correct, would you still be ticked and quit watching?

I can understand complaining if you voted nonstop for him for two hours, but I doubt that every person who is complaining about his elimination gave up their evening supporting him on the phone.

Now everyone is entitled to do what they want and if you choose to quit watching a show that you enjoyed over this, it is completely your decision to do so. But, if you didn't support your favorite and are whining about him being kicked off - then it's just sour grapes and you really need to move on.

I'll admit, I was a bit saddened when my favorite got elimintated, but not so far as to quit watching the show. I'll admit that I don't vote anymore since I really don't care who wins (even thought I secretly hope it's Taylor).

Sorry to be so preachy, but no one has ever answered my question as to whether or not they voted all evening.

I'll miss the shows!! (leaving for WDW tomorrow) But I am having my sister call me with Elliot and Taylor's numbers to vote!! ;)

ITA!! I understand when people don't recognize this song, it's been on the old school R&B stations for years... I guess they'll know it like I'll know a song by FUEL... :confused3 ... uhh...NOT!

I've always loved this song and it's by Bobby Caldwell, a BESB that NO ONE knew was white, he even hid his face on several of his album covers! His voice is very reminscent of Elliot's and I think it is an excellent choice for him.
:thumbsup2

Great post!!

If this were the case I NEVER would've watched this entire season because I SEETHED when Carrie Underwood won! I survived so I guess Chris' fans will, too. The great thing about his story is NO ONE will forget it soon and when one door closes, another opens.

I did vote for at least two hours. I could not get ONE call into his line!!!!! I also tried the week before and could only get one call in. I have watched every week since the show started. I always vote for my favorite. I don't sway. The problem is when you put that much time into a singer you know is great and see them loose it changes your outlook on the show. The same thing happened with Dancing with the Stars. I really have to stay away from these shows.

Let me first say (please note): I love Chris. He was my #2 - a strong one even. But I will venture to say that he never stood a chance of winning :duck:

I'm starting to think that you have to be really generic to win this show. That makes sense, when you consider all the different types people who yield telephones every Tuesday night. I got into this argument when Chris did the Creed song. DS insisted it was great. While I wholeheartedly agreed, I tried to explain to him that Chris "just can't do that on this show - he just can't." It's like politics, they've gotta please the masses. And that flat-out explains the continuing presence of Kat and Elliot. I'm a flag-waving Soul-Patroller, but I kind of think he's too unique to win.

I'd be willing to bet most of the Chris fans are gone. I don't blame them. But you just cannot look to this particular show to crown a true-life rock star. I don't think it'll ever happen.

Regardless of what has happened since the last show, I am looking forward to tomorrow night's show! :) I feel that the remaining 3 are still talented in their own way! It's going to be a very interesting result show on Wednesday. I like all 3 remaining, and will continue to watch, even when my favorite is voted off. It's a competition, unfortunately, only one can win. It doesn't mean that those who lost don't matter. ;)

Yes, every week I try for two hours to vote, and I rarely get through because it's busy. No, I did not get Katherine's voice when I got through. There were, however, posts on the idol boards TUESDAY NIGHT, from people stating that they did, before Chris was eliminated. AI kind of swept it under the rug, and that's what irritates me. Also that Kat mentioned Chris's fans might have been too lazy to vote....grrrr...... (yes, there is a link to the audio if you must have it I will search for it)

SO- if it was recounted and proven that Chris should've stayed that night, no, I would not boycott. It's not acknowledging the phone errors that stops me from watching. I figured why vote if it doesn't count???

As soon as Ryan announced that Chris was gone last week, my 1st thought was that that they might as well hand the win to Taylor then.
But I'm waffling on that now for much the same reasons you posted.

I agree that there are some die hard Chris fans that won't watch anymore. But I'm sure there are plenty of others who had Chris pegged for the next idol who will stick around and maybe even cast a few votes.

I fall in that catagory.
I'm not a Chris fanatic, but I figured I'd most likely be voting for him in the final two (although I have to admit I was begining to question that a bit toward the end)

My votes are now up for grabs.

Taylor fans are incredibly devoted and personally I think he'll make it to the final two. If he does, I have no doubt he will give whoever he goes up against a run for their money; however, I just don't see many undecided folks being swayed to vote for Taylor at this point.
:confused3
Either you get him or you don't.
If you do, you're probably already pretty firmly in his camp.
Those of us who don't, are left to choose between Elliott and Kat.

I think it's anyone's contest to win now.

My DD called because she said she just heard thta because of the mixed up phone line issue last week there is going to be a "redo". She wanted to know if anyone on the DIS had heard it, seems she is now a DIS believer.

I haven't heard anything about a redo, but who knows anymore. Last I heard AI was denying phone line problems. I think they brought Clay back, is that right?

I'm a major Chris fan, but of the three left, I think Elliot deserves to win. He's very talented. I don't think I'll be voting anymore, though.

I can guarantee they won't redo. The only time they only sort of "redid" was when the actual phone numbers on screen were messed up. At that point though, no one was kicked off and needed to be brought back. They won't redo no matter how many people want it to happen - scandel = ratings for AI.
