American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Just came across this 'online petition' on the site WeirdEyes posted:

To: American Idol and FOX
Hello Chris Daughtry Fans! This petition is from the hearts of us. We feel that Chris was wrongly kicked off of American Idol on May 10th, 2006. We, the fans of Chris Daughtry, demand American Idol and Fox to do a Recount on the Votes. Ask anyone who they thought was going to win American Idol this year, and 90% of them would say CHRIS DAUGHTRY. We are shocked and saddened that this has happened. This is a HUGE mistake. Recount the votes American Idol, Recount the votes Fox. You will be greatly surprised that Chris Daughtry should have remained in the competition. If a Recount is not done, with the signatures from all of the Chris Daughtry Fans demanding one, it will only PROVE, that this show is rigged. Please, give us a recount and bring Chris back. HE IS OUR AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!! If you agree with this petition, PLEASE, the Fans urge you to sign it and pass it along to anyone you know who LOVES Chris as much as we do. WE LOVE YOU CHRIS, OUR AMERICAN IDOL!! AND WE WILL FIGHT FOR YOU TO BE THE OFFICIAL AMERICAN IDOL!!!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Looks like they've got over 8,000 signatures. I'm guessing many are the same people over and over, but still.

I was sad to see Chris go last night too. But this just has me

As for his wife, man, I'd make sure I get my half when he bolts. I know that's crazy but he just hits me as the type that will... heck, MOST of them do. So glad to see that Bo hung in there!

Chris may not bolt. He adopted Deanna's youngest child, a boy. This child's biological father is deceased. Chris wants to adopt the older daughter but her father is still in the picture. Chris seems like a dedicated person to me!

I do hope they stick together. These children have been through enough.

Lori

You know Robin, I thought the same thing about Bo when he married his wife. She'd better make sure she gets her half when he splits. Ah well...

Go TAYLOR!

BTW, anybody know if Taylor is seeing anyone? What about Kat or Elliot?

I think that it was Elliott having such a strong night that made the votes swing. It sounds like a lot of people voted for both Chris and Elliott, which they don't usually do, to keep Elliott in. Well, it kinda backfired. However, Idol is all about creating opportunities for those who need them, and it looks like it has certainly worked out in Chris's favour.

Give me a break! Sorry, I was extremely upset when Clay didn't win. There were lots of things wrong with that one...but life went on & Clay has done very well on his own. I still watch the show.

It makes people feel like they're doing something though. It won't make any difference, but people are angry and want to DO something about it instead of just talk about it. There were petitions for Constantine and Clay too. IMO, if signing your name makes you feel like you're making a difference, then more power to you. (and no, I haven't signed it. ;))

You are so sweet... I don't see that in many people, especially "celebrities". Remember he was Joe Blow when he did all of these wonderful things. A groupie or two can change ALL of that.... sorry old hardened heart here. I'm sure good old Brad will hang in there with Angelina, too, after adopting HER kids, just like Tom Cruise did with the adopted kids he had with Nicole...

Very true, but I think (and hope) the key difference here is that this is a marriage started OUTSIDE of Hollywood and Deanna's not famous. I look to couples like Denzel Washington and his wife and Mel Gibson and his wife - they've hung in there because they're marriages that exist outside of Hollywood. I hope it works out for them!!

Did anyone see the ticket prices for the Idols live tour yet??? The cheapest start at $36.75 (or give or take a few cents) and the best seats are $65.25 BEFORE TAX! Did these go up or am I blocking out how much I paid last year? ;) Presale starts on Wednesday. Does anyone have the presale password?

here is what our local news aired this morning:

Chris Daughtry's Idol journey is over
It was a Wednesday night shocker for McLeansville's Chris Daughtry. The American Idol rocker who was voted off was predicted by many to be the last singer standing. In the most competitive Idol race yet, Daughtry's exit narrowed the contestants to three. Daughtry, who was visibly caught off guard, told host Ryan Seacrest he was surprised he was leaving. That means the events scheduled for Friday in the Piedmont have been canceled. The homecoming celebration was arranged by the folks at American Idol, not by FOX8.

notice this part American Idol arranged this for the last 3, so looks like they thought he was going to be 1 of the last 3

Not official--I've got a call in to a very inside source to try and confirm, but there's a ton of chatter on the street that Chris has been invited to become the new lead singer for MA based Fuel. This would replace former singer Brett Scallions who had an amicable departure from the band very late last year.

I remember hearing awhile back that they were interested in him... hopefully his contract with Idol will allow him to do it.

They did this for all four of the remaining contestants.

Yes, and I have so much respect for them because they did, too! They are the extreme exceptions to the rule, though, and especially among rockers this statistic is lower than the real world, which is bad enough.

I am still in shock. I knew Kat would be safe since she probably received a majority of the male votes and then the female votes were split amongst the three men, but Chris going home was a complete shock. I thought it would be Elliot or Taylor. Even Chris' face showed utter amazement and bewilderment. I think it took a few seconds for him to completely realize it was over. And the way Ryan had just mentioned that everyone thought Chris would be the final man standing then WHAM you are goin home. Wow.

LOL.... not one guy I know particularly likes her. In fact, the men I know wanted Chris.

There are alot of AI fans were DH works. I talked to him earlier and asked about his co-workers and their response to Chris getting the boot and he said they were all pretty upset about the outcome. I then asked him if they voted and he said no. So many of them had become complacent about voting figuring that he was a given that he was going win or that enough others were voting already.

It's all over the AI message boards that the band is Fuel. Someone on there saw the "Extra" tv show. The one here aired at 11:30 am. Now, I wonder if Chris will accept the offer? I think he could do worse. I love Fuel!

Below is an USA TODAY interview with Chris:

By Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY
So just how shocked was rocker Chris Daughtry about being kicked off American Idol on Wednesday night?
"I was pretty shocked."

Did you see it coming at all?

"Not even a little bit."

How do you feel now?

"I'm bummed. I'm disappointed, but I'm trying to see the bigger picture and see that there's going to be bigger opportunities."

As for how it could have happened, Daughtry, speaking to reporters in a press conference phone call Thursday, had one theory he kept repeating:

"Maybe people thought I was safe and didn't vote as much. It's really tough."

He detoured from the shock-and-awe questions for a minute to discuss his bald head.

"I've been shaving my head for three or four years now." And no, he's "not planning on growing it out anytime soon."

But back to the shock of the booting and how jaws dropped all over America.

"Mine was pretty much on the floor," said Daughtry.

He wouldn't talk specifics, but said, "There's going to be (a) flooding of opportunities and I can"t really talk about them, but there are some lined up. I've got to field all my offers and make sure I'm doing the right thing for me. Everything's going to turn out great in the end."

He said that after the news, judges Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul were even at a loss for words.

"I think everybody was pretty much speechless. Randy was pretty much saying, 'Don't worry about it, you're going to be fine.' Paula was crying too much to say anything. And Simon was shocked. He said he didn't see this coming and wished me the best of luck and totally believes in me. I think things are going to be OK."

Daughtry got to sit a few for a few minutes after the show and think about it, he said: "It took a while for it to really set in, and I don't think it really has still. I'm just going to make the best of it and use it as time to launch my career."

When asked if his revelation the night before that he wears "boxer briefs" might have been the wrong move, he laughed. "I hope I didn't disappoint the fans."

As for the moment he heard Ryan Seacrest say he was going home, he couldn't fake a smile.

"I wasn't going to pretend to be happy about it. It was definitely a gut-wrenching moment. I wasn't expecting it, not even a little bit. It was definitely a low blow for me. It didn't feel good but I try to look at the positive and see the bigger picture, and say you know what, maybe this is the right thing. Maybe this is just a big opportunity for many doors to open."

He said his wife was all right about the whole thing, too. "I was really expecting her to be, you know, out of control, and I would have to be the one to console her, but I think it was the other way around. She was really just telling me how proud she was of me. She was sorry it happened but she said things happen for a reason. We have to hang on and see what that is and believe there's a bigger picture there."

He also mentioned that Ace Young, his Idol roommate and pal who was eliminated earlier, called after the show. "We became like brothers on the show and probably always will be. He called to check on me and see how I was doing. Obviously he's been through it before."

When asked about reports that a band is going to make an announcement soon about a job offer, Daughtry said, "I haven"t heard who the band is. I've got a good idea. At this point, I just have to really take everything into consideration and be very careful. I don't want to make a rash decision and regret it later."

He's weighing whether to even join a band or pursue a solo career.

"I'm a songwriter myself. To be able to launch my own career would be my dream."

Daughtry wouldn't say much about his Idol competition — Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee or Elliott Yamin — except that they were surprised, too. "Everybody was pretty speechless and didn't know what to say." As for McPhee, widely thought to be the next one to go, he says, "We didn't get a chance to really talk. I don't know what was going through her mind. I have the inclination she was expecting herself to go. So she was shocked, I was shocked and I think America was shocked."

While Daughtry is contractually bound to Idol for another three months, he is making plans.

"I thought I had some really strong momentum. I've been really proud of what I"ve accomplished so far. I haven't regretted any performance and thought I gave every performance like it was my last. What went wrong" I'm not sure. You never know. And I'm just praying that this is the right thing and bigger doors are going to open and we'll see what happens in the future."

He plans to try to stay in North Carolina with wife Deanna,. who has been working two jobs to make ends meet while Daughtry has been Idoling, and their two kids. "They always made me feel like everything was OK so that they didn't want to stress me out. It was great to have that support and help me focus on what I was doing."

And he's done trying out for shows.

"I auditioned for Rock Star, the first one. It didn"t go too well, obviously. I didn"t make it on that show, and I realized then that was because I was supposed to be on this show."

His closing remarks: "I just really want to thank everybody for supporting me so long in this, and I really feel for all the people who are disappointed today. I realized I have a lot of fans out there, and I'm appreciative for everything they"ve done. I ask them to not forget about me when I have an album out."
