American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Does anyone know if the winners from the past are doing concerts and putting out CD's? I was thinking of Ruben Studered and Fantasia. What are they up do? I do not hear much about either of them.

The last I heard was a book Fantasia ok'd to be sold under her name. Ruben was to perform in Las Vegas last year, but he cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Whats up?

Fantasia has done really well in the R&B market and she also has a TV movie coming out about her life.

Although I pegged Chris at #3 this week, I never really thought it would be him to get voted off.

I just watched the show from last night and have to say that was the hardest "goodbye" that I have ever seen on Idol. Both Chris and Kat were shocked to the core. Although I felt really bad last year when it was Constantine, I think they let him down a little easier than the way it was handled with Chris.

Career-wise this was probably the perfect place for Chris to get off the bus.

It was just hard to watch my DS cry himself to sleep last night :guilty:

Ahhh....

Hugs to your DS
I understand.

My kids have not gotten too attched to any of the AI contestants this year - thankfully.

But we could have some drama around here (and not just from me) if BJ & Tyler don't win on Amazing Race.

But the remaining three have to be better/ more popular than Fantasia--still no idea how/ why she won a few years back

Fantasia won *shudder* because just like last night, the contestant that should have won (or should have at least made it to the finals) went home as #4 (LaToya London). Same with Tamyra in the first season, although I still think Kelly would have won.

I thought from the beginning that Chris was a shoe-in on this... even tho I prefer Elliot's singing and performances. I'm a little stunned.

And as for the women voting for Chris and the men voting for Kat...
1) c'mon... how many men do you REALLY think are making the effort to push buttons on a phone to vote for the pretty girl on TV? :rotfl2:
2) My husband was much more of a Chris fan than I have been, because of the rocker aspect. :smokin:

At this point, having been a fan of all 4 of them, I'm happy with any of them winning, but I have to agree that of the performances this week, Kat's were the weakest and she should have gone. And from the look on her face, she felt that way too.

From an MSNBC article...

"Daughtry consistently has been the best musical act, week in and week out, since the competition began. In fact, after he covered Fuel’s “Hemorrhage” early in the competition, the band reportedly floated the idea of him taking over as their lead singer."

I hope Chris joins Creed! I just might tune in to Extra tonight :thumbsup2

Sandy22-it wouldnt be Creed.
Creed is no more.
Scott Stapp (singer) went solo and the other members of the group formed a new group called AlterBridge.

Yes, AlterBridge has a WONDERFUL lead singer named Myles (can't think of his last name). I've seen them in concert and they ROCK!

As far as Fuel goes, I doubt the band is getting rid of their lead singer, Brett Scallions, who is also awesome.

I will truly miss Chris every week. He was the highlight of the show for me. Being a hard rock fan, how could I not love him. He'll do great with whatever direction he decides to go. I know I'll be lining up to buy his first CD. Can't wait for it! I do think he was robbed last night, but what can you do?

My votes now will go to Taylor being he's an Alabama boy. He makes me smile also.

There are rumors of Van Halen being the band over on the Idol forums. Hey, it could be the Backstreet Boys at this point for all we know!! LOL!

Here is my humble opinion....

When it was posted that Ace said in an interview this week that Elliot was going to win this thing, I thought to myself "What is that guy smokin'?"

But then when Chris was voted off, it had me starting to wonder.

Ace and Chris are best buds - being called the Matt Damon and Ben Afleck of the Idol scene. Why would he predict Elliot winning the thing this week when Chris is his best bud? Did he know something we don't know?

Then I started to remember all the hubbub about contracts in Season 2. Smoking Gun had posted the contract and how restrictive it was for the final three. I believe it was Kimberly Locke that was chafing at her idol contract. One only has to listen to what Bo is singing now to know that the final three contracts are wacko.

Then, you start to think - Tommy Mattola on Idol? He doesn't need Idol. The guy is a jerk, but he is one heck of a successful producer. What did they have to give Mattola to do Idol? Did they have to give him Chris?

** Mattola says Chris' voice would be awesome on a record deal.
**Best friend predicts Elliot will win (Did Ace screw up and give away Chris' plan?)
**It is well known that although Idol doesn't mess with the voting, they have other ways of manipulating the audience.
**Chris sees the crap that Bo is forced to sing and wants no part of it
**Chris comes out and does his best to look bored and gives a lackluster performance.
**Voila - Chris gets voted off right before the restrictive contracts of the final three.

My guess is that this was very, very scripted and I think Chris got exactly what he wanted.

Dollars to doughnuts we will hear after the tour that Chris has signed with Mattola.

As for Chris' shocked expression - I think it was more of an "OMG it worked" expression than an "Oh darn" expression.

Ace never said he predicted that Elliott would win. He said that Elliott would do best with the win. Here is the exact quote,"I think it's gonna be a guy. Sorry Katharine, I love ya, but I think it's gonna be a guy...I would be very overjoyed if Elliott won because I think that it would be a wonderful thing for him, but I think he has a lot of competition with Taylor and Chris. You don't know what Taylor's gonna do, he might just end up standin' on the judges' table. And Chris is a rocker. He's gonna rock from beginning to end."

In regards to Chris...

Me thinks you ladies should be ASHAMED of the way you're carrying on about another woman's HUSBAND!

Realistically, don't you think Chris' family life would be the most likely to suffer from his new-found fame? How would you feel if it was your husband up there being lusted after by all you love-crazed women...? How would you feel when he's on the road, and you're back at home running the household? just wonderin' outloud.....

Brett Scallions left Fuel and Fuel has been advertising on their website for a new lead singer. http://www.fuelweb.com/

"Brett's a great guy, a long time friend, and we wish him well." says Bell. "It was a very amicable split, we've had some great times and we will miss him."

WOW!!! I had no clue and I'm a big Fuel fan. How did I miss that? I didn't see it on their site. Man, I will miss Brett. I love his voice. Well, if I can't have Brett, then I'll take Chris. I hope it is Fuel. That would be so cool! Thanks for letting me know.

If you click on News in their website, it is there. Rumour had it that they offered Chris a position once before, so it wouldn't come as a total shock if they are the band offering him that position once again. Tune it at 7:00!!!

Chris gets an offer froma a "mystery" band...FASCINATING. I don't know that his voice would suit Van Halen, but I love them to pieces and would be thrilled if he joined them. I'm a big fan of the whole Fuel, Creed, Nickelback thing that's going on right now and would love if he hooked up with any of those bands. Looks like I'll be setting my Tivo for EXTRA tonight.

Does anybody know the real numbers from last nights vote? Not the Dial Idol numbers, but the actual ones from Fox. I'd be interested to see how close the vote was between Chris and Kat.

As for the person who asked how I would feel if I were Chris's wife, or how I think she feels; If I recall correctly, it was SHE who pushed him to audition for Idol. LOTS of musicians are married and yes it is a very "different" lifestyle for their families then you or I would ever experience. I would imagine she's upset he lose, but quite eager to see what offers are going to come down the pipeline. If he were my husband (cue the homer Simpson drooling sound) I would be ecstatic about the prospect of his success either on his own or with a band.

So, I think next week's theme (if you acn call it that) is judges choice. So what song do you think they'll pick for the remaining 3?

How about "Soul Man" for Taylor?? Or anything by Joe Cocker (Night Moves?).

I heard Michael Buble sing "i want to Go home" on the radio the other day and let me tell you...elliot wasn't even close. Not even on the same planet!

Purely out of fascination, I hope Elliot goes through to the finals just cause the underdog deserves a shot, and Kat hasn't been impressing me lately (and I DID like her).

Exactly...but will it carry over to radio.

I think that if you want a real answer to that question for yourself, you need to listen without looking. There are plenty of places on the internet that you can hear any of these contestant's past performances. Try it out and decide for yourself. Don't look - just listen. Simon does this all the time.

For me, the answer to this with respect to Taylor is, of course, a big time yes. In fact, while I liked him from the beginning, I think I became a REAL big fan after I started just listening to him while driving, doing laundry, jogging, etc.

To each his own on that one.

Man, it took me ALL MORNING to read all of these responses! I haven't seen the DIS so PO'd since the last election!! : :lmao:

I have to admit I was in a state of utter shock when they announced Chris' name. I had hoped all the prediction sites were wrong but it sure cleared up those conspiracy theories! From a broadcast point of view it would KILL me to see a finale blow up in my face like that, but if the votes warranted it, so be it.

I am a BIG Taylor fan but I did like Chris. I didn't think he was hot or even a nice guy I just thought he had a nice tone to his voice, maybe the best of bunch. What I want to know is what happened to his fan base??? They seemed to be so very dedicated then they fizzed out. On the AI boards his fan base is not even HALF of Taylors... and believe me, once you've made a fan group a CULT (Soul Patrol), a clan, a family or a gang, call it what you want it's a group of like minds, they work HARD for their man.

Maybe if he had Daughtry's Daughters, or the Chris Misses, or the Fuel Fools... whatEVER... maybe they would've stuck together, who knows??

No matter what, I think Chris will do fine. He is a very talented man who got his 15 minutes and will make it work for him. He will never be the same.

As for his wife, man, I'd make sure I get my half when he bolts. I know that's crazy but he just hits me as the type that will... heck, MOST of them do. So glad to see that Bo hung in there!

LOL, it will be funny to see what kind of turn this show will take now. Taylor LOOKS like a shoe in but up until Tuesday so was Chris. Man, what now???? :confused3
