American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

DH was praising TIVo last night, luvwinnie. He must've gone over the crotch shot half a dozen times. Like I said, at least her underwear was yellow too. I was totally expecting her ummm,, breasts (can I say that word?) to pop out of her dress.

BTW, though I think he's a nice guy, elliot has WAY more of a "goat-like" vibrato to his voice than any other contestant. He's a good singer, but needs less vibrato (it's almost as annoying as Aaron Neville). I still can't take looking at him...I hope he outlasts PAris and Kelle (who I hate way more).

I know he's not conventionally "handsome" but I find him cute! I must be the only one.

Poor Taylor. Something is just not right. I know he's been p*ssed off twice (probably 3 times now) consecutively. Does anyone else thing he's just too mature for this competition? I do NOT mean old. I mean mature.

My review of last night:

Katherine - Judges didn't like and neither did I

Elliott - didn't know the song but thought he was good :thumbsup2 - Paula needs to take a chill pill, LOL!!!

Paris - Paris is Paris, haven't liked her since the beginning, just not my style

Kellie - for the 2nd week in a row she butchered a song - time to go home

Taylor - looked sad or sick to me last night - just not the entertaining Taylor we all like to see

Chris - OUTSTANDING for the second week in a row

Bottom three: Katherine, Kellie and Paris

Going home: Kellie

I completely agree. He is a grown man and is expected to act like a teenager with choosing sides and being chastised by the judges every week. I'm quite sure a 29 or 30 year old man doesn't like to be told how to act and the feeling of being owned. And let's face it, right now, AI owns them and will own the winner for a while. I think Taylor is realizing that it's not what he thought it would be - I don't think he wants to be someone's puppet.

That's the article about the Paula/Ryan fued. Interesting. Seriously, I'm always one to defent Paula, but she was a nut job last night!!! CRYING??? Come on now! Didn't she cry when Fantasia sang "Summertime" though.... I'll have to go rewatch.

Dial Idol still has all of the girls in the bottom. If there's any justice Kellie will be going home, but I highly, HIGHLY doubt it.

Geez, I said to my husband those puppies are going to jump out and run to the dawg house. :rotfl2: I missed the crotch shot. I'm glad.

...and while I adore Taylor   , that is exactly the reason I'm kind of hoping he doesn't win. They're not going to let him do the type of music that he can do sooo well. And I think he might have to kiss songwriting goodbye for a little while, if he wins. I don't know for sure. Where do the Idol winners get the music for their debut CDs? I just don't want them to ruin him. He's so good.

Katherine: What were the judges listening to??? This was the first time that Kat really wowed me. Great performance!

Elliot: He sings great, he's a nice guy, but there's just no spark KWIM? Maybe it's his stage presence?

Kellie: Ouch.

Paris: Contrary to the majority of posters I LOVE Paris! I've also noticed that she consistently receives the most praise from the celebrity guest singers. No matter what happens in AI, she's got an amazing career ahead of her!

Taylor: I still LOVE Taylor but this has to be one of his worst performances. Why did he pick that song???

Chris: He's got the whole package but I agree with whoever said that singers like Chris are a dime a dozen. That's why I think Taylor has an edge over Chris.

Hoping Kellie is going home!

Estelle said about Taylor and was dead on, "He’s not very good in a ‘Non-Drunken-Wedding’ setting"

But I'm sorry...Barbra is harder to sing than Whitney and they trash Katharine (who I thought sounded good) and liked Paris??? :confused3 Paris was no where even close to Barbra with that song. PLUS, she smiled through half of it...Paris...The Way We Were..hint...NOT a happy song..watch the movie, it is sad. (The end sets me to crying every single time I watch it) She took my favorite singer, one of my favorite songs and just yucked it up big time.

Totally agree...she looked so smiley and happy, I was thinking "Disney Mousekeeter"....if I had the volume off and didn't know what she was singing, I would think it was a happy song! I know she has a good voice but she is just too young to "get it", I think.

But Kellie should go. SHe is so far out of her league. It's almost sad.

OK, I obviously make no bones about liking Kellie. I do not expect her to win. In fact, based on talent alone --- and NOTHING ELSE --- I think she should be gone by now. But talent alone isn't what AI is all about.

Case in point: You all know I work for FOX by now, I guess. So last night, while at work in the control room I am sitting near a 55+ year old guy who thinks Kellie should win. He hears Kellie sing that song. I am not looking at him. As soon as the song was over I hear him say "Beautiful".

I look over at him and say " Her or the way she did the song?"

He says "Both"......

And then later on I find out that he has his wife calling in and voting for Kellie 10x EVERY SHOW, regardless of how she was.

Last night was...ummm...interesting, I *guess*.

My pans for last night -

Paris - ugh. This girl would sing a dirge with a BIG HONKIN' SMILE on her face. Does she just not understand that "Memories" is a wistful remembering type of song, with perhaps of tinge of "triumphant surviving"? UGH. I think Paris needs to get some age on her, then the voice and the actual person will mesh much better. I think that Paris could have a Broadway career or anything else she wants, but she needs *time*.

Kellie - one word. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. She always sounds better in the rehearsals than in the performances. Time to go.

Katherine - didn't out-Whitney Whitney and that is what she had to do in order to pull this song off. The makeup person who highlighted her breasts needs to go back to school, Katherine's girls didn't need the shadows/highlights. That dress smushed her in unflattering places plus she was suffering from "VPL" (Visible Panty Line lol). But I do thnk she is an appealing performer and will have a long career.

And would someone please tell these SINGERS that sitting down on those stupid steps, thereby smashing their diaphragm is not the way to get decent breath control?

I liked Chris, Taylor and Elliott much better than any of the girls.

agnes!

Rankings based on listening to the Mp3's at rickey.org

Best- still Elliot

Chris- same feelings as last night, good but nothing special.

Katharine/Taylor tied- Katharine started out good but then it went bad. Taylor was the opposite, started terrible but finished great.

Paris/Kellie- They were both bad. Paris had no real understanding of what she was singing about and on the Mp3 she sounded worse then last night. Kellie, well, it was just all wrong but I thought on playback Paris was just as bad and that surprised me.

As long as Taylor and Elliot are safe I don't really care who goes anymore.
