American Idol: Season 10 PART III

Really loved it that they let everyone sing two songs last night. Didn't care for James' first one at all but liked his second one, and the emotions that went with it.

Didn't like either of Jacob's songs. Please send him home tonight!! Please!!

I had never heard Lauren's first song but thought she did well, and really liked the second one but was wishing she would have gone for the high note. I know she doesn't have confidence in herself but if she could get over that I'm sure she would have hit the note perfectly. Hated that the song was so chopped up though for the time constraints. Loved the dress too.

I enjoyed both of Scotty's songs, but the second one even better than the first. I know he is young, but he has a beautiful voice and I can't wait for his CD to come out. His (and Lauren's too) is one I will definitely buy, and I rarely buy CD's anymore.

Didn't care for Haley's first song, I'm not a Lady Gaga fan at all. Didn't want to like her second song either, but I did. I thought she did really, really well with it and especially loved having her come out and sing acapella at first.

I'm so hoping Jacob goes home tonight, he needs to go before Haley but if he doesn't go then I hope Haley does. I'm hoping for a Scotty/Lauren/James final. James can win, as I think the country singers would do better on their own rather than having to put out songs that Idol wants them to.

Looking forward to seeing Lady Antebellum perform tonight. But why do they have to have J-Lo sing again? She already did earlier this season. :(

...I know almost everyone here is hatin' on Haley, but she did an INCREDIBLE job of House of the Rising Sun last night!

It should be Lauren. She's a lifeless, country. barbie doll. She's too young and the fame will ruin her. I see her looking confused, emotionless other than fear. She has that weird smile plastered on her face, too much makeup and now they are giving her the world's biggest hair. It's horrific. Last night's dress for Unchained Melody looked like a prom dress from the early 70's. They are coaching her in her every move, everything is choreographed and looks totally unnatural. It's like watching a bad high school musical where the singer is pretty good but can't dance and has only memorized her lines with poor delivery.

Thank you ma'am...

As I said, no WAY Haley understands what House of the rising Sun is about. She sang it gritty because that's how she sings everything and that's how the song was done previously. But in the very beginning of the song she actually included a lyric that was meant to be sung by a man...can't remember what it was, but it very distinctly was referring to oneself as a man.

I did catch the lyric where she referred to herself as a "boy"

"..And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one "

'IF she had said "girl" I think it would've totally changed the meaning, she'd have to be more than a visitor to the HOUSE, more like a worker..:rolleyes1

The blatant attempts at manipulation by the judges were repellent or laughable. I'm not sure which.

James was off pitch and out of control. And that was on his first song alone. But he's in it to win it. :cheer2:

Jacob is one of the best voices to ever be on the Idol stage. :woohoo: How in the world JLo said that with a straight face... girl should go back to acting because clearly the world is missing that level of skill on the big screen.

Haley sang her first song perfectly, so let's just talk about the song choice and tear it down. Like I'd ever heard of James' first choice either.

ETC.

I wish they'd stop pretending to be doing anything other than reading Nigel's prepared remarks designed to facilitate a certain outcome. The show has always been manipulative (see the "A for effort" remark for Gokey's Scream On debacle), but it's now just outrageous.

Something tells me that the voters are so polarized this season that if a male DOES win, he will not do well sales wise. None of the guys will sell at all, well except for Scotty and unless he does the nasty and matures a bit, he will only appeal to Idol voters period.
I honestly don't see ANY of the contestants being a big seller in any genre. The only possible exception is Scotty, but he'd have to be marketed quite well since country has not recently rewarded young male singers. Moreover, 19 does not excel in marketing their acts in general, but they have particular problem with younger acts (like Allison Iraheta, David Archuleta).

I think Lauren could probably do well as a front singer for a country band ala Sugarland, but she'll probably be on her own to find that opportunity and it could take years, so she'd lose any benefit from Idol.

Jacob's continued presence on the show absolutely mystifies me -- as my dd says, 'He's that church choir singer who's good, but thinks he's way better than he really is.' I see him going nowhere.

lol, it's HYSTERICAL to see Steven take his reading glasses on and off to make sure he gets the producer's notes right....:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I really hope you're right (mainly that it's not Haley in the bottom 2). I think Lauren has a very good voice, but I agree with you that she has a long way to go before she is ready for fame. It's so funny how people see things so differently. You said her dress looked like a prom dress from the 70's, but then I saw a comment a little later from someone who loved the dress!

I hope it's Jacob who goes home tonight though. But no matter who I like or hope wins, there isn't any one of them that I dislike as a person the way some people do with Haley. :confused3 They're all young kids, for Pete's sake!

Great observations! :thumbsup2

You're so right, the judges heap praise all over a horrible vocal performance and then slam a good one because they didn't like the song choice.

Jacob hurts my ears. He's such a freakin whiner it makes me nauseous, and he can drop the "pure" act as well.

None of the guys will sell at all, well except for Scotty and unless he does the nasty and matures a bit, he will only appeal to Idol voters period.
Have a problem with nice guys? :confused3

FIRST CONFIRMED performer for the finale is Jack Black who will sing with one of the idols!

I hope its ok for me to post here, since I haven't been part of your discussion before, but I watched the show tonight and wanted to chime in.

Ok, I can't! stand! Jacob. He's so... overwrought... it makes me uncomfortable to watch him.

I loved Durbin's emotion in his second song. I'm thinking he'll finish #2 behind Scotty.

Scotty also makes me uncomfortbale, just becuase he's got some odd habits of movement on stage. He looks like the love child of Alfred E Newman and George W Bush, which is ok, but he's always leaning to one side like a stroke victim. Its so pronounced and weird its hard for me to watch. That said, that kid has mad talent and a hell of a future- and I'm not even a country fan. Hey, mebbe some day Lauren can be his back up singer.

I like Lauren, actually. I want to see what happens to her in about 5 years when she's had some time to mature and grow out of her coddled teen thing and breaks free of her stage mom. Some time paying her dues with bar gigs will do her good. I think her voice is wonderful.

Haley. I wanted to hate, ya, but I love ya. I really think this girl could make a sapc tac album of kind of blusey quirky songs. Me likee her HotRS and even the first Gaga song. Was Jimmy trying to sabotage her with suggesting she sing an unknown (and kind of meh) song?

Thank you so much, I knew he looked like someone, I just couldn't put my finger on it. :rotfl: While I think he is very talented I just can't stand to listen to him. He will do very well in the Country genre so its time to get him off the Idol stage, give him a Country record deal and let his fans be the only ones who have to listen to him. Of course, his time better come after Jacob. How is this man still there, he is horrible and makes my ears bleed when he sings. Also I'm not sure what he was doing last night when he sang the first song but Cheryl and the other guy (I can never remember his name) should have told him to stay still, not Lauren.
I thought Haley was spectacular, on both songs, but I'm voting for the Country Barbie to win because I like her the best out all of them.
