American Idol: Season 10 PART III

It's A WHOLE LOT different when that harsh brutality is aimed AT SOMEONE ELSE. It's worse when you're that person getting it.

I'm 40. No kids but have a niece and nephew in that same age range (19 and 21).

Point taken, however, if all the contestants who have gotten negative criticism were reacting in a similar way I could see it. Haley is one of the older ones to boot. My kids have gotten harsh crits in their life, the 20 year deals with it daily in college as she has to literally pitch her work and get pass/fail determination again daily..and she has to pay the bill of college to do so. Her choice, she knows what she has gotten herself into. She takes it with grace. She knew to leave her ego at the door when entering her field...look, I was complementary of Haleys personna earlier on, she had a earthy/life is good kinda vibe...then, to use a phrase on this board, she became *catty*, aloof and was starting to be segregated not only by viewers but you could see the other contestants not exactly warm and fuzzy with her ( except Casey). All I'm saying is she projects one thing..she has been called out on it. Lets see what she does with all the attention she is getting, after all, it appears that is her goal so to me, I would think she is one happy little snowflake camper right now.

What is that supposed to mean? Are you admitting to being one of the catty girls I mentioned? I can't explain it any other way except that some people were just born mean-spirited. It's truly pathetic. :sad2:

It would be so interesting to know who (how old) we all are on this MB. How ridiculous would I, as a 50+ year old mother of 2 (which is why the snarky comments bother me so much-I have kids the ages of the Idols) feel if I learned I was debating with a 14-year old kid? Which is exactly what I must be doing, based on comments like the one above. Grow up. :sad2:

No but I play one on tv... :lmao:

Have a hug. you sounds like you can use one. Don't take it all so personally...it's a television show. As you noted, when the stress from a tv show causes your blood pressure to rise, you might need to shut off the tv for a while. :flower3:

I think I must watch a different Idol than a lot of other people because week after week after week all I have heard is how great Haley is and how they love her from the judges. Last week and this week not so much. And I could swear I saw a backstage interview with Haley right after she sang..or maybe it was before she sang her second song :confused3 it's all such a blur.

It is no secret I do not like her voice at all. Never have, never will..just not my cup of tea. I've always thought the judges were crazy for liking her so much and other then BBBBBBB benny and jetsssssssssssssss and last night songs I don't remember a thing she sang. (and I don't remember them for good reasons either)

James, I actually voted for a few times this year, but I don't like the over the top bad performances and hate the screaming. I hated Adams too but at least he screamed in tune.

Scotty has been my favorite from his very first audition. Lauren I loved during her audition but I wish that spunky girl who had the moxey to sing Aerosmith and ask Steven Tyler to join in would come back. She just seems down and insecure now.

I seem to be getting the same Idol that you are. I do not think that they were overly harsh with Haley last night. There has been much worse critiques of performances than what they told Haley last night.

I'm also a 50 plus mom of a 18 year old SINGER...LOL!!

He had wanted to be on American Idol when he was younger but thinks the show stinks now... he only watches it if I have it on.

I don't consider myself a complete yahoo since I have a BFA in Theatre and had to excel in acting, singing AND dance (good on the first too... the last one ... not so much!!) and have been in broadcasting for 30 years. I watch the show for ENTERTAINMENT but there is a side of me that vomits profusely at calling JLo or Randy and EXPERT...:scared1: Being a "celebrity" does not make you an expert, it's absurd. I give Steve his props but mostly he sounds like a fried brain ex addict.

With that being said I am pretty vocal on my dislike of the country twins because I feel like the board is pretty lopsided. I'm not a real fan of anyone but being a yankee in the South sort makes me a complete NON fan of whatever "peachy" Lauren and Scotty are.... ;) Everyone has their druthers.

I don't hate Haley at all, and I don't get turned off by her, either.... to each his own. I remember quite a few "back talkers" on the show and they never got the vitrol she got last night. Jennifer Hudson fussed a LOT and no one made a big deal of it at all.

Whatev... this IS a discussion forum and we are discussing. It's what it's here for and what we do. I like seeing what others think, it keeps me aware. If I only knew what like minds felt I'd limit my scope, and I don't like that.

I'm a 53 year old (soon to be at least) mother of 4 girls age 23, 21 and 18.

I think James and Lauren are both in trouble tonight. I think people voted like crazy for Haley last night because of how the judges treated her. And Scotty has a huge fanbase. I just hope it's James going home over Lauren.

Does anyone else think that Haley might have a good chance of winning?

I wonder if one of the country people will go because they are splitting the country votes?

I'm a 50 year old mother of a 25 yo DD(music major) and 22 year old DS.

Sounds like we are all pretty much the same ages here.

I don't think Haley has a chance of winning. I think it is Scotty's contest to lose and he isn't going to lose it.

I guess I'll add that I'm 26 - will turn 27 in 3 days when I'm in Disney!

Honestly I think Lauren is a sure thing for the winner and has been since the day Steven said so during her audition. I bet the producers want a female to finally win and she is cute and marketable. Though maybe Haley will be the winner instead. I just don't see a guy winning this year since it's been so long since a woman won.

The Idol threads have always been like that. It is generally agreed that as long as no one bashes each other on here, it is all good. You are free to bash contestants as long as you like. You really can't take it personally.

Right..and it is tough when negative comments are aimed at your favorite (such as vomiting smilies.) But it is just a TV show and whomever goes home doesn't really mean anything to me personally.

This is my first season to follow AI on the Disboards. (probably a mistake) I guess I am just oversensitive to kid-bashing - can't understand it, can't stand it. How can we expect kids to stop bullying if we adults are guilty of the same thing? The only difference is the person being bullied doesn't know about it. But I still find it offensive.

If Haley goes tonight (and I think there is a good chance), I will not be logging on to see the victory party. My blood pressure is still in the good range, and I'd like to keep it that way. ;)

This thread can be a bit crazy, but we all agree to disagree and sometimes that is tough.
