My understanding is that he has a contract for more than just this season, but can opt out of future seasons if he wants. The difference is significant, I think, because it shows that the producers are making more of a commitment to Tyler than they had made to Dioguardi, for example. I suspect they made a similar deal with Lopez, essentially guaranteeing them a spot on the panel (or at least the money for that) for a number of years, if they (Tyler, Lopez) want it.He has a contract for just this season and can opt out of future seasons if he wants.
Ok, the "Simon being mean" thing just bugs me, he wasn't mean, he was HONEST. In the long run he did more for these people then the "nice" judges. I look at the kids that come to audition that are just AWFUL, but their families think they are just the best thing ever. Simon is just telling them like it is. Again, there are a lot of good singers on the show, but most of them are NOT star quality.

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsideth...ler-i-have-more-than-a-one-year-contract.htmlHe was mum about any other details, but it sounds like FOX is confident in Tyler as a judge. "I have more than a one-year contract, but as you know things are what they are," says Tyler. "But I have more than a one-year contract."
So if I walk up to an overweight person and tell them "Put down the fork fatty", that isn't mean...it's just honest?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Simon, but he was definitely mean. You can be honest without being mean....or even blunt, BUT that was Simon's "schtick", and it worked for him, and I even enjoyed it.
I'm sorry Jenn, but my read of your message is that his contract was for just this season. That's what I was responding to.
I heard what I heard from one of the television blogs... if you heard from Tyler's mouth, itself, that the contract is really just for one season, then I'd believe that. I'll try to do more research and find out one way or the other.

That's also where I got the impression that this indicated that the producers were giving Tyler more than they gave Dioguardi.
Dunno, but if it was just a little confusion that should be good news, right?Holy crow! Was it the word "just" in my other post?
Steven Tyler has a contract that allows him to do THIS season and quit, or continue on further if he wants to.
I'm so happy AI is back. This is the best thread on the DIS!

So far I've only seen one audition that I feel indicates a strong chance of being a successful recording artist. Now, I can't say whether that is more or less than past years - it is really hard to pick out the winner this early in the contest, of course, and even harder to determine whether the winner is going to be a successful recording artist - but I can't help being concerned.
I can't remember the name of the woman who I'm referring to... she was a brunette who auditioned in New Orleans. I there a spot where all 36 contestants who are going through to Hollywood are shown, with their names and perhaps small bios?
