At the risk of stating the obvious it was about/around 4th of July. Would you not expect your threads about Canada Day to have a similar vibe? I definitely remember them doing so. Furthermore while you're welcome to join in the conversation I'm unsure of your investment so heavily in a thread started on a holiday celebrating the U.S.

There were actually no threads started for Canada Day this year. I think it’s partly due to the fact that most of us realize that we have horrific events in our past and we need to acknowledge it and strive to do better going forward. If my neighbours are hurting, then I’m hurting too.

I never specified a year on a thread, any year a thread is created about Canada Day I'm presuming it to be about Canada and I'm darn sure the Canada/America thread is that way. So why go onto a thread created on 4th of July about the U.S. speak disparaging yet again about it, the whole point of the thread is about the U.S. and frankly saying "if my neighbor is hurting.." yeah no not when you (any person) goes on a thread to just speak poorly about their supposed neighbor. My comment was of course the thread is about discussing the U.S., it was started on 4th of July.

Canadians tend to be very much less vocal in our patriotism.

As a descendant of the immigrants of 1620 with 300 years of family ties to New England and as a descendent of a veteran of the American civil war I have a 3rd party investment I guess lol

I never knew that Canadians had so much animosity toward the US. Most Americans don’t give two hoots about what goes on in other countries. It is interesting how many non US citizens have taken part in this thread.

Where are you seeing animosity?
Again just because we don’t disagree with a generic statement doesn’t equal hatred.

I wasn’t referring to the US as my neighbour, I was referring to my actual neighbours, or anyone in this country.

Please don't ask if anyone is desecrating our flag and wearing it to cover our butts like where all American flags should be displayed. Really? As a veteran that believes in the real meaning of our flag, our constitution and what was once our system of government I'm just getting angrier every single day and everytime someone just says.. oh, don't worry, everything will be fine. We have survived other things but nothing like the crap that passes for patriotism today.

Looking back, it looks like the comment I posted was the first one to not rah rah. As far as I can tell, they’re American..

Huh? What would be the purpose of even saying that? Especially when the topic that you opted to quote me on was discussing the thread being about the U.S. and me commenting about a Canadian's comment. You def. were not talking about your physical neighbor there.

Again, huh? I don't care if an American discusses how they feel about the U.S. it's completely 100% on topic. This is a thread started on 4th of July so yes you can expect a thread to be about the U.S. I think it's perfectly fine for individuals to have criticism towards our country, why would I not? You finding a comment from an American to prove your point does not speak to my point because I have zero issues with it. However, if the topic being the U.S. (or in the exact words the glorification) displeases or disgusts an international poster that I cannot fathom joining in on that topic, why put oneself through that? Of course you can join but it would def. leave one scratching their heads at why and would leave me to state the obvious...a thread started on the 4th of July about the U.S. is naturally going to have things celebrating the U.S. just as a thread about Canada would do that same.

I have a ton more stuff to get ready for for my trip alas I do not have the time for more conversation unfortunately.

I'm not sure how to phrase it but your vocalization is reading loud and clear regarding your feelings.

Since my husband's family came from Canada to get to the U.S. from Scandinavia does that mean he has a 3rd party investment too but in Canada?? Kidding really, just a playful quip there.

In the context of that post, it makes perfect sense for her to be referring to her physical neighbor. That's how I took it before she clarified. She was talking about Canada Day. Not every post always has to do with the specifics of the original post.

Poster was referring to the current movement in Canada of being reflective of the white man’s abuse of indigenous people in North America on Canada Day.

There have been a few comments here that basically were a tad rude about other countries and they were acknowledged. That is all,
No one hates the USA.

But I should have ignored comments from posters like Art who likes to bash Canada as a game. Sorry I shouldn’t rise to his bait.

And in the other post I merely asked out of curiosity why the poster thought other countries had less opportunities than the USA. I was just wondering and asked nicely.

If buzz can talk glowingly about American military why can’t I toot the horn about our great maternity leave? Both countries have good and bad. Neither are utopia.

Nothing wrong about learning about our neighbouring countries.

I'm not defending other posters nor am I siding with them. I was however saying basically don't be surprised if a thread created on 4th of July is going to contain content that you may find portrays something you don't see as good especially from your non-American perspective. The title was "America" it was a bit blunt in what it was going to be about.

I think the question is why participate in a thread about the US. What’s wrong with someone tooting their horn about a country they love in a thread about a holiday to celebrate the US.
I’m not sure how this turned into a Canada vs USA thread.

Neither did I until I moved there. The attitude you see displayed here is an almost daily occurrence once they hear my accent. They see it as a chance to jab an American, much like on the dis. Weather it’s health care, politics, military or whatever. It’s bizarre and embarrassing for my wife. Once a lady approached our table at a restaurant and said that Canadian Taliban fighter should have killed more Americans. Had a cab driver in Toronto go on and on until I asked to pull over. Imagine a guy from India saying how bad the USA is. It goes on and on. They especially have a thing against Floridians. And that’s what I am. Other parents at my step daughters law school graduation would not talk to me.

I know they are very bothered that Americans know little about Canada. This really bothers them. They say horrible things about the French people, but always remind me about Americans being prejudice. Our financial advisor has said things to my wife right in front of me. That money is being moved to the USA now.

It’s really a bazaar place. The French people are actually nice, as are the Mennonite’s.

What are you talking about it? Unrest spearheaded by Russia? You go way to easy on the UK and the US involvement .
Dude, Putin has annexed great swathes of land and is proactively invading a sovereign state. He is bombing innocent civilians and is doing such a bad job of it that a hefty chunk of his OWN army are now DEAD. And let's not forget, Putin's jets are endangering American drones carrying our exercises against the Islamic State, just because. He is a ruthless aggressor and won't back down.
