Access to women's health care cannot be simplified into those who do and don't agree with abortion/birth control. Procedures like simple D&C are not being done where they are medically needed because D&C can also be used for abortion. Gotta tell ya- I'm not happy to bleed out from a true gynecological issue because some law makers have created a "rat out your doctor" situation, where they can question the use of D&C for anything- because the MD might be lying and instead performing an abortion. Obstetrics and gyn departments/wards all over the country have been shutting down because of the liability, because they don't want to have to make last minute life-and-death decisions during a delivery because they are afraid of being arrested for doing what is medically necessary. It's NOT just about birth control and abortion, it's about my health care, which should be between me and my doctor.
I've been wanting to get this post in before the eventual lock, but I've been at work then come home too exhausted to post specifics.
Some women here may someday be in the situation above or similar, or know some women in the situation Leebee stated above, and are in a state where your women's reproductive rights may have been taken away.
Some of you may not know this, as certainly your state won't tell you the following. And maybe your local news and other local ways to get this news won't state it, lest they get into trouble in these states.
There are "Safe Haven States" for women needing women's reproductive healthcare procedures and options.
While you may know other states still have different laws where more female reproductive healthcare options are available, these states have
created new laws to protect women to be able to come to these states for female reproductive services.
This is not to be confused with the Safe Haven
BABY laws in many states, where someone can turn over a baby/child they no longer want, (or can no longer care for) to certain places without repercussions. This is safe haven for women needing to cross state lines for certain reproductive medical options available there.
New York state was the first state to create the Safe Haven women's reproductive rights laws, and California and Illinois, and possibly some others have followed suit in also creating similar laws where women can come from out of state and get safe, PRIVATE and LEGAL reproductive healthcare options within our states.
Can't speak of the specifics of the other states, but in NY state, any medical procedure that is legal in NY state and happens in NY state STAYS legally protected and PRIVATE in NY state. We now have laws protecting and shielding healthcare providers from extradition, arrest and malpractice suits, so what happens here can't be used against them and you and women from other states which may try to find what reproductive procedures were done in NY state.
NY state has secured grants and funding to give certain state-run facilities $50,000 each to help ensure safe access to reproductive health services and options.
(A California law specifically states: "Strengthens safe haven protections by making it illegal for bail agents or bounty hunters to apprehend people in California and protect access to public benefits.")
There is a certain hormonal pill that was available over the counter, that has been taken off the counter in some states, and even in the states where it is still legal, due to pharmacies fearing the ambiguities of the laws in the states where it is no longer allowed. New York, California and about 4 other states bought surplus stockpiles of those pills so that there is more than enough for women coming from out of state to be able to still buy it legally, over the counter in those states, without a prescription or being tracked by the states that don't allow it. (Pay cash just in case.)
New York City has created new laws making some of these services affordable or free for women here
and coming here who can't otherwise afford the services.
For those that are saying, "It's great that these services are available where you are, but I don't have the money to travel there, or it is still unsafe to travel there," I saw on
60 Minutes (I think?) where a couple women in the situations Leebee described, talked about how there are private groups/organizations which are getting private donations and funding to help pay for the travel for women who can't afford it and even have affordable or free places to stay, as some women need more days to come in or recover than the hospital visit, before returning home.
It's kind of like the Underground Railroad, but instead of safe passage for slaves to get to freedom, it's safe passage for women to have the freedom to get the safe procedures they need. One woman talked about how she had to take a bus to a neighboring safe state before she could then get on a plane to the state she needed to be in, to make sure she wasn't being tracked. (That was in the early days. The Safe Haven laws may have made it safer to go to those states now. Who doesn't come to NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago just for a quick vacation?

)
We also get it's not that easy to pick up and go away for a couple days or more, especially if one has a few children or elderly adult that need constant care. A procedure that used to be done a few miles away, and then one can lay in bed at home with the children in the other room is no longer an option. Some women don't have anyone to stay with the kids or the elderly adult. And for some women these procedures need to be done sooner than plans can be made. This isn't a fix-all which can help those situations.
GOOGLE for more specific details about the Safe Haven states for women's reproductive rights, especially one closer to you. I purposely didn't give many details to get this thread shut down or for this post to go poof. (Also, if one is doing Internet searches in an unsafe situation, remember to clear your Internet cookies and Previous Searches (a second step,) afterward.
If you or a loved one needs these options, and can come, COME.
These states have your back, they have your womb.
They have safe, legal procedures and options available.
They have laws securing your privacy and your safety.
For the LGBTQ+ community: NY and CA (and possibly other states) have also created laws protecting and providing gender-affirming care.

Edited: Gay Pride is a whole MONTH! Yay! Thanks luv2cheer92. There were some gay pride flag burners (of other people's flags.) The idiots didn't realize that there are Ring cameras almost everywhere recording them.

When they were caught, I think most of them are being prosecuted as a Hate Crime.
While there are many things I LOVE about New York: the pizza, the bagels, the Broadway shows, etc., it is the securing and protection of THESE fundamental rights, that I LOVE New York City and state the most.
