I suspect @robinb knows already
Yup. I'm not a fan of "God Bless America" either. I will often get the stink eye when I sit for it at ballgames. I do however stand, and remove my cap, for the National Anthem.I suspect @robinb knows already, but the history of the song for others:

Guthrie was a very prolific, perceptive composer.I suspect @robinb knows already, but the history of the song for others:

"And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea."
A certain individual in particular. The song now makes me cringe.I like the sentiment, but it is overplayed.
Over 30 years ago when it first came out, dh worked at a Non commissioned officers club restaurant. At every event that was held there it was played. He got tired of it then.
Much better
Same.Ugh. I hate that first song with a white hot passion.

I don't think I actually hate it, but I certainly have not really liked listening to it over the past half dozen years or so.

I was so blessed to see Ray Charles perform this at Fenway Park opening day in 2003 since I think Ray passed away shortly after that. It also made me feel far less ripped off because the Red Sox called off the game after Ray finished because of bad weather after paying for parking, etc.
You should look up Evacuation Day.I have a lot of international friends. We have a group chat, and the American just wished the Brit: Happy Colonial Divorce Day!and now I want this to be a thing.
(It was accompanied by Hamilton George III memes)
That's why they wrote "God Bless the USA!"What does a 10 year old know of a "fruited plain?"So they were over-sung without real understanding of the words.
Now that I understand the words, they just don't get to me in the heart the way some other songs do.
I live very close to Williamsburg, VA. The Fife and Drum presentation is always my favorite.
