Amber alert- Missing 5 year old in Florida

That was brought up over on WS, but it was said that since she disappeared before they were married, it would not count in this case.

Good to see. I hope that isn't their motivation, but if it is I am glad they cannot circumvent the system that way. I gotta ask (and maybe it is earlier in the thread--I have not gone back and read it all--out internet we were without internet when we moved and I came into hearing about this story midway), what is WS? I assume it is another message board of some type:confused3 I am always woefully ignorant of these things (just ask DD12)

I was ignorant about it until someone on here told me, so don't feel bad. ;) It is Websleuths and they have a bunch of amazing people over there. It is a really good board.

I love Websleuths but it is addictive. I can only read over there to a point then it gets too depressing reading over and over again about unsolved crimes and the families and victims. :sad1:

You are not joking. I have to stop myself after a while. It should be an indication to move on when I find myself crying in a thread.

This may be morbid to say, but if Haleigh is in fact- dead, I think she is in a much better place now. She didn't have a chance with that family. I am just hoping she didn't suffer prior to her death.

I don't think that's fair to say. You don't know how Halleigh was treated? How much they love her? I can't see death being a better place ever :confused3 I'm not being mean, I just don't understand your reasoning in the above quote. Sure, I think the family seems back woodsy, but it doesn't mean their child didn't have a chance at anything.

If she is indeed dead, I pray she didn't suffer as well:sad1:

As far as dad asking his gf to marry him-that's a big WTH :headache: I think his timing is :scared1:

Thanks--I just wanted to know what you were refering to (nosy)--I do not need another board to take even more of my attention;) This one keeps me occupied for more than enough hours as is:upsidedow but it does sound like it could be a pretty intersting place to read.

She's 17 right? How old is he? How long have they been going out? Yeah I think its off to think about getting married when your daughter just disappeared last month.

The Dad is 25. And yeah she's 17. I heard on NG his Mom say they haven't been dating too long. Less than a year I believe.

This is a little off track but with some of the discussion of the gf's age I actually thought Fl. was one of the states with 16 being the age of consent. I assume that's wrong?

I haven't researched it, but on the local news they were saying that the authorities are considering pressing charges against the dad for having sex with a minor. They said they would not do so at this time because of the current stress on the family. That would lead me to believe that 16 is not the age of consent in Florida.

I'm not sure about Fl, but in MI the age of consent is 18, but they won't try for a conviction if the "victim" is over 16 and isn't willing to help prosecute the defendant. My family found this out first hand after my 17yo sister got pregnant by 38 yo "mr WRONG" and refused to testify against him.

Holy Moly!!!!!

It makes me really paranoid to......I will find myself getting up throughout the night to check on the kids and make sure all the doors and windows are still locked.

It's heartbreaking too the amount of people who go missing......especially a lot of young adults that don't get nearly the media attention as many are just considered runaways.

Dad Gets Married Today As Haleigh Search Resumes

About 100 Look In Woods For Cummings Girl

POSTED: 10:55 am EDT March 12, 2009
UPDATED: 11:59 am EDT March 12, 2009

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Investigators again are searching woods on Thursday morning looking for missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings - on the day her father plans to marry the teen-ager who was with Haleigh when she disappeared.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it has about 100 deputies searching along U.S. Highway 17 north of Crescent City. The area has not been searched in the past, although an earlier news release said it had been.
The family told WESH 2 News that Ronald Cummings, 25, is scheduled to marry 17-year-old Misty Croslin at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be at the Dunn's Creek Baptist Church in the town of San Mateo, which is just north of Satsuma.

Cummings asked Croslin to marry him on Sunday night at Chili's in Palatka. Croslin was sleeping in the home she shared with Cummings on the night Haleigh disappeared one month ago.

The sheriff's office said today's search "is not the result of information received, but is being conducted as one more step in the continuing search for Haleigh."

I have no words.

How do you even have time to marry when your child is freshly missing?

How aren't your feet falling off your body from all of the searching you are doing night and day?

How do you even have the right frame of mind to even think about a wedding?

How do you actually sit in a Chilli's restaurant and place an order and enjoy a meal when your sweet baby has "been stolen"......let alone propose to your 17 year old girlfriend/babysitter?

I wonder what the collective IQ is within this trash-laden family:scared:

I don't know ... I think that's pretty harsh.

First of all, his daughter is not "freshly missing" ... she has been gone for over a month. You make it sound like it just happened yesterday. Secondly, we don't know what the police have told him to do ... they may have told him NOT to search. Thirdly, he's not allowed to eat out because his daughter is missing? Because he might gain a little bit of normalcy out of it? What? Maybe he should buy a hair shirt and flog himself ... would that show enough grief for you? Lastly, marrying his GF may bring him some peace in an upside down and dark world. Do you really begrudge him that?

He may be trailer trash but I can can see how he could do all of those things.

Robin:scared1: I thought you were one of the sane DISer's:scared:

Do you think a child missing for a month is not fresh:guilty: My God, the wounds would still be open and raw if my child were missing for a year, let alone a month:sick:

A month is so very fresh when it comes to a child being ripped from their home.

Maybe it is just me, but I would not be able to function, let alone head out to Chili's to pop The Big Question.

Don't get me wrong! I would be out of my head too after only a month. BUT there is "fresh" where the hurt and grief is still fresh and "fresh" as in just missing. Sadly, a month is no longer "just missing". Especially when it's a child who is missing.

Gone for over a month??? That is hardly any time at all, in my opinion. I guess I don't see how he could think about ANYTHING except his missing daughter, right now.
