Amber alert- Missing 5 year old in Florida

I heard the Dad's Mother say on Nancy Grace that Halleigh and her little brother really love the GF like a Mom. His family really likes the GF and doesn't seem to think that she could have done anything wrong. Then later on, same interview the Dad's Mom says the couple have been together 3 months.:rolleyes1 Hmm I guess 3 months is a long time in kid time!
Strange story.

Oh weird. I heard the Dad's mother say something to that effect about the GF too. I remember the kid's bio Mom saying she "doesn't know anything about that girl" or something like that (that girl meaning Misty). It seemed like she didn't care for her too much.

Plus, Haleigh's dad is calling his 17 year old girlfriend a "stupid "B" on the 911 call:sad2: Does he really love her? Does he even know her?

It looks like there were no stable adults in this poor little girl's life. They all seem to have big issues.

It seems like they all do really love her though, although there is something about the Mom.....
I do find the whole group's life style a culture shock, trying not to be judgmental but a whole lot of smoking and from a 17 yo living with a 24 yo man, where's her Mom? Is this girl in school?

I heard that too. :sad2:

I understand he's upset and he was dropping f-bombs all over the place, but wow.

Every time I see her on TV she's smoking.

I heard she was getting her GED.

I hope they find the little girl. Things like this make me sick.

On a different note, this family reminds me of my old job as a social worker. So many families live like this. It is crazy.

I would cut the guy a break on that one. If I just found out that my daughter was taken under someone's nose I would have some choice words to say about them.

The incessant smoking from all of them has driven me crazy also. Not relevant to the case I know, but it is sickening. I remember the first video of the father and the 17 year old girlfriend walking around with the arms around each other, chain smoking - and that was the first thing that struck me.

He then called her "a dumb 'B' girlfriend" the next day whilst being interviewed by the police. I would imagine he is not a nice fellow to her in general.

That being said, I am sure many people live like these folks do:guilty: It is not a life that I would be happy with, but they don't know any other way.

I agree. That was my first thought when I heard the tapes. I doubt that this guy is anybody I would spend any time around. The fact that she is so much younger than him and living in this situation speaks volumes IMHO. It's not uncommon for abusive types to choose girls much younger than themselves to better be able to control them.

I do feel terrible about the whole situation. I really feel sorry for this little girl - for what's happened to her now and for the type of life she was living before she was taken. Talk about getting a bad hand. :guilty:

This may be morbid to say, but if Haleigh is in fact- dead, I think she is in a much better place now. She didn't have a chance with that family. I am just hoping she didn't suffer prior to her death.

Haleigh's Father Asks Girfriend To Marry Him

Family Also Must Leave Tent

POSTED: 8:23 pm EDT March 8, 2009
UPDATED: 4:45 pm EDT March 9, 2009

SATSUMA, Fla. -- The father of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings asked his girlfriend to marry him over the weekend.

Ronald Cummings, 25, asked 17-year-old Misty Croslin on Sunday night at Chili's, according to firstcoastnews.com.
Croslin was with Haleigh on the night a month ago that she was reported missing.

"Everybody's probably going to take this marriage thing the wrong way but it's not," Croslin said in the article. "Everything's still focused on Haleigh. This is what Haleigh wanted. She's always talked about it."
Because she is 17, Croslin's family had to fill out the marriage license paperwork.

Meanwhile, Haleigh's family members said they will never again live in the mobile home where the child disappeared. And the tent where Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, and other family members have been living will have to move soon because it is not in a campground.

Haleigh's paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves, said it's hard walking back in Haleigh's bedroom and seeing her favorite toys. She said her son has been unfairly criticized and she doesn't blame him for not wanting to move back into the home. "You can look around and see the pictures of Haleigh, her movies, schoolwork," Neves said. "Haleigh's everywhere in this house."
Neves also said the family will continue to hold candlelight vigils for Haleigh until she comes home.

SydneyBristow! I was JUST going to post this!

Here's another link HERE.

Honestly, this is just way too bizarre for me. Your daughter is missing and you ask your GF to marry you!? Seriously!?!

If you are married to the minor you are sleeping with then you can't be prosecuted for statutory rape. I am sure this had some part in the decision being made now.

Very true. Especially now that their relationship is out in the public and people are obvious to their ages.

My thought when I saw this (very odd timing if there isn't some other motive, right?) was the above, or that maybe in Florida spouses do not have to testify against one another and they have a reason to not want to do so. I sure hope that little girl is okay and found soon and put in good hands but it seems like a long shot by now.:sad1:

Good point. I do hope that is not part of the reason. I don't think the father had anything to do with this directly but I think the girlfriend knows more than she is telling. :sad2:

That was brought up over on WS, but it was said that since she disappeared before they were married, it would not count in this case.

I really hope it is not part of the reason either--I hope it is just the age thing, but the whole scenario is so odd none of it really makes sense to me.
