Amazon prime...anyone do this?

I am a big fan of Amazon prime! It has more then paid for itself with Christmas shopping. Now you can watch their on demand movies for free too!

My complaint is that it's two days shipping time, not real time. So if I order diapers Monsay night, they probably won't arrive on Wednesday. So it does take a little planning ahead. A greT deal for those of us who live a long way from a shopping area, especially with those rising gas prices!

Yes, it does take some planning to make sure you have what you need when you need it. But I have received most of my packages in 2 actual days. A couple of weeks ago I ordered something on Sunday and received it on Tuesday. With prime, you can get one day shipping for only $3.99 if you are in a real bind.

FWIR, that streaming video service is one thing that doesn't come included with the "Mom" version of Prime, but don't quote me on that.

Otherwise, I think the main difference is that you have to share some additional information to qualify for the "Mom" membership, you have to "earn" additional months of free Two Day Shipping with "Mom" membership, and the amount of time you're eligible for Two Day Shipping is limited with "Mom" membership.

Yes, as of now you can only earn up to a year (from your sign-up so including the free 3 months you can only earn 9 more), but if its products you would normally be buying its a great deal! I'm so mad at myself for not keeping an eye on my expiration date
For anyone wondering since I did when I first signed up, you do get the free shipping on regular Amazon purchases, not just the baby store ones, but you only earn additional months with the ones from the baby store.
Also for those of you with babies or little ones in diapers Amazon mom gives a 30% discount if you join. I'm not sure if its all diapers or just select ones though.

Here's some info.

We have never paid for Prime and won't ever pay the yearly fee. We keep getting offers for free trials so we use it during those trials only. Our other purchases usually fall under the "super saver shipping" category and the ones that don't never amount to anywhere close to $80.

We've had free Prime for nearly a year now from the free trials we signed up for. Amazon Mom is a great way to get Prime for free and continue getting it based on your purchases. It's not just baby items that extend your free membership. DD's Leapster Explorer earned us another 2 free months of Prime because it was purchased from Amazon's baby store.

I would do Prime, but they offer it for free to college students. I'm a college student at a small college that isn't anywhere to be found on the list of eligible schools for Prime.. so that made me sad and I decided not to do it at all.

Love my Prime membership! I typically get everything in 2 days. And if I really need it, it's 3.99 more for overnight.

Amazon is so smart to do this. Now if I want to buy anything, I automatically go to them first.

LOVE it!!! I order everything from Amazon, all my Christmas shopping, it's wonderful!

Last week I ordered a steam vacuum at 3pm via the Amazon app on my iPhone. Obviously it had the two day free shipping yet somehow when I got home from work the following day (3pm), it was sitting on my porch.

I did the free trial thing a while back and canceled it before I got billed. When I ordered my Kindle, I wished that I had waited to do the free trial.

When I do online orders, I never pay shipping if it's something that I can buy at a store. If it takes a little longer to get to me, I'm fine with that. I was never willing to pay the Prime fee.. and now knowing that others can get it for free based on their demographic that I'm not eligible for, I'm most certainly not paying for it!! LOL.

Seriously... do people really buy toothbrushes on Amazon???

That's awesome!

Not something I'd be doing, but I think it's great :)

I'm a student too and got my membership extended for an extra year even though I'm a paid member. All you need to do is subscribe with an email address ending in .edu and click on the verification link they send.

I LOVE Amazon prime! We save hundreds in shipping charges every year using it. We order things other places only if Amazon doesn't carry it. Even DH, the doubter, is sold on Amazon Prime. After ordering some things for a neighbor she has signed up, too. It's a great deal.

Given how far some folks live from "the" store, and the price of gasoline increasing so much, that equation may not work out for some quite the way it did perhaps in the past. :)

Even beyond that, I don't resonate with this, personally. Having something I need sitting on my doorstep when I get home from work - well - I can't put a price on that. And I think that cuts to the heart of the matter: Different people value shipping differently. Folks who don't have a time crunch in their lives, and/or enjoy the in-store experience, probably won't see the value in Amazon Prime.

If it takes a little longer to get to me, I'm fine with that.
Back when all we were buying from them was books that was okay for me, too, but we're buying so many things now (coffee!) that we run short of on short notice (because we're insanely busy at work and church). In a way, with Amazon Prime I think we're recovering a bit of sanity in our lives, lost due to how utterly we've filled our lives with obligation and responsibility. $79 is a fair trade for us.

Hmmm... I suspect you're kidding, because that doesn't make sense to me... it's like not being willing to eat meals at WDW restaurants because some people get free dining. :confused3 How much other people are (or are not) charged has no impact on how worthwhile sometimes is to me, as long as the terms and conditions are clearly outlined, and fairly enforced.

I haven't, but that's because my dentist has always issued me a toothbrush at every cleaning. Otherwise, I see no reason to buy anything Amazon.com sells from anywhere other than Amazon.com, unless it is available somewhere else for a lower price, or provided to me with greater convenience. The point is the fact that it is an online retailer doesn't matter: All that matters, imho, is whether it serves well.

Yes, I was kidding... and after reading the rules, pretty much anyone qualifies for it anyway.

I'm not a big online shopper... I only shop online for things that I can't find around my area. At some point that may change, but thus far it's something I'm not sold on. I like getting out of the house :thumbsup2

At Christmas I order more online so that it can be shipped to my family members who are out of town, but I do it so early that I always get the free shipping.

I'm really amused by the toothbrushes. That made me smile yesterday. I haven't bought a toothbrush in years since I get one every time I go to the dentist (not just for cleanings). Two years ago, there was a stretch of time that I was there once a week for about three months. Ugh.

I'm an aunt, and the FAQ said that was fine... I didn't really read it that closely, but it looks like it would give you three free months and then you need to make purchases from the baby store to extend it. I'm sure I could figure out a way to make that work, but it's not something I really need.

Hehe... and I appreciate the rare opportunities I have to stay in our home. :cloud9:

Depends on my mood :goodvibes

I have used it for years and LOVE IT. Cancelling it is super easy. If you don't use it they refund your full price and if you do use it they prorate it. I had it when I signed up for Amazon Mom and they refunded me the Prime Membership!

I buy almost everything on there. Most things are cheaper than the store and it's so convienent.

FYI - The Amazon Mom is amazing. For anyone that still buys diapers or wipes ... I just bought a box of Luvs for our back up diapers size 4, 180 ct. for $7.47!! I also bought a box of Pampers wipes 720ct. the next day for $1.51. Free shipping on both. They have 20% off coupons for the baby store in many parenting magazines, as well as some $10 off sometimes. You can combine and with Amazon Mom and Subscribe and Save you get 30% off.

I respect Amazon.com's stated intention, "for parents and caretakers of small children". We live a few hundred miles away from the nearest family, and therefore we are not caretakers, and beyond that, none of the kids in our family are that young.

Beyond that, we would have nothing to purchase from that store - that's simply not what we purchase for the kids: We're the cool aunt and uncle who get them all the things that their parents hate us for getting. ;)

Ooohh! I LOVE Amazon Prime too!

I did pay for it once, but then they gave me a refund when I registered my .edu email address.

It would be worth the $79 a year just on the gasoline savings for me!

I even order cereal and granola bars from Amazon!

My Halloween candy came from Amazon, dog food, toilet paper, laundry soap.

I ordered a 6 bottle pack of laundry soap. One bottle leaked during shipment. I mailed Amazon and they refunded my whole order!

I save my change and use the Coin Star machines for Amazon certs (no service fee!)

We bought a treadmill from Amazon and a Bowflex. We paid $3.99 on each for one day shipping. Sure enough, the day we ordered each, we received a phone call to arrange delivery for the next day! Both pieces of equipments were even hauled upstairs for us!

Amazon is awesome!

I didn't read it through enough I guess. All I saw was "I'm an aunt, is that okay?".

Oh, I'm definitely THAT aunt, too. LOL.
