Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

Did anyone notice that two teams....the Gagnan's and Aiello's didn't walk to the Charleston Visitors Center but drove there instead or am I imagining things? I thought the clue specifically said you must walk to the visitors center. Shouldn't they have received a penalty or something or just because they were the two last teams, it didn't matter?

I think in the past, they have shared the penalty anyway.

It may not have made a difference in who came last, but it would have made a difference when it came to a delayed departure time and other teams.

I didn't notice that they drove.

Perhaps it is a set number of gallons.

When they do free diapers or free soda--it is measured in quantity and not cost.

That would be the only fair thing to do...if there were a limitation.

So probably no cross country trips at BP's expense. :teeth:

My DH said the same thing. He doubts highly they would give unlimited gas. It's probably based on the average miles driven per year, which I believe is either 12,000 or 15,000. Even with the limitation, that is still a great prize. I think I would prefer that over a free trip :goodvibes

I was also sad to see the Aiello family go. I agree, I think their weight was a hindrance, same thing with the buggy.

I really didn't like the first come first serve situation for the last task. I think whenever they do a task like that, they should have to drive a fair distance after that, just to give someone behind a chance. The last three teams were within seconds of each other grabbing the tickets. In fact, I thought the Aiello family had gotten there first, but didn't run right away for a ticket.

The shrimp boats were near the Vistor Center so they could walk, the other 2 did the mud roadblock which was 35 miles away so they had to drive back into town.

That could be worth a million in itself soon!

I would have loved to win that prize until they said only from a BP or Arco station. I dont even think we have one of those stations around here. Now if it was a Mobil or Sunoco... :flower:

I feel bad for the Weavers next week, regardless of the task at the race track. I think it is poor taste for the producers to exploit the emotions of teenagers on national TV. Regardless of if this was planned in advance, I just don't think it is right. I think the big difference between this and past contestants facing their fears is that a race track directly resulted in the death of their father less than a year ago. And, they are CHILDREN, not adults. It just doesn't seem right/fair, regardless of them knowing that anything could happen on this race.....

The Gaghan boy continues to crack me up:
Dad: Come on "boy's name", look at Carissa go
Boy: She doesn't have any bags!
Mom: I know honey, just try to go faster.....

I am sorry to see the Aiello's go, they were ok. But I do think they made a mistake staying at the mud buggies too long. I also think they completely were overreacting at the airport with the Weavers.

All I have to say about the Weavers little breakdown was, Hello, two teenage girls.....it happens. None of the teams on that bus had teenage girls or children old enough to go through that stage yet.

BORING episode and I agree 100% with everyone about the last challenge. It was cool to be at Space Camp, but that was ridiculous how they set up the roadblock. There wasn't even a chance. I too think they should have added another clue box somewhere or made it a non-elimination.

I completely agree about the raceway next week. Total exploitation. You can't tell me, that even if this WAS planned in advance, as soon as the Producer's chose them to be a family, people should of been scrambling to find a different venue. Everything is right here in the States. It would not have been that difficult to scrap the raceway, and find something else. IMO.

2 things came to mind. One, the family was chosen BECAUSE the producer's knew the raceway was going to be a part of the race, or two, the Producer's put the raceway section of the race in AFTER the Weaver's became a team. THAT would be awful, if they did that.

I would take that prize over any cash or trips, hands done! HOLY COW, can you imagine NEVER having to worry about gas money again? Did they say all 4 of them? That would be beyond amazing!

I agree with many of you that this episode was boring. Once they got on the bus to Alabama, there wasn't really a race. It was just first come, first served especially since only one team at a time could do the simulator.

I love AR and this Family AR is driving me nuts since it doesn't have the suspense the other ARs did.

Oh well tonight on Game Show Network is the finals with Rob and Amber and Joyce and Uchena.

If the shrimp boats were in Mt. Pleasant on Shem Creek, they could not walk to the visitor's center. I was curious about that, too. Maybe it was walk after you got to the Charleston side of the river.

They said "all licensed drivers". :cool1:

I have a question about the Brenson?? family. The one with the dad and the 3 daughters.

Why is the dad always commenting on how he is pulling the girls down because he can't keep up? Does he have health issues? He seems young enough to be able to keep up. Heck, older couples have competed in this race and never whined like he does, and they had to do MUCH more grueling, physical stuff.

I just shake my head when he starts whining, because he seems so YOUNG. Why does he talk like he must be 80 years old?

I too am so sad that the Aiello's were elliminated. Last nights episode was somewhat boring. I just can't stand the New Jersey family. I can't wait until they are eliminated, and the Schroeder's (sp?) they are just so mean spirited. The comments they make speak volumes about the type of people they are. Initially they said that they might be mean to outsiders, but within their family they are nice. Well last nights episode certainly showed how they can use nasty words to each other as well. I HATE that term "shut your pie hole" and for the mom to say that to the boy is just ridiculous.

Oh, I agree! I was getting so mad, when the Weaver boy and the Schroeder boy were just goofing around in the airport, and I don't know if it was the sister or the step mom, but she came over and was GRILLING him about what he was saying to the Weaver boy, ect. Let the kid be a kid for crying out loud!

Did anyone else LOL when the Aiello's made their 1st attempt in the mud. They got through the 1st pass, and all was great, yelling, screaming ...halfway down the return side, they get stuck. Everyone is dead quiet. They are like "oh crud".....then the driver just says, "but it really had some kind of punch"

May not be his exact quote, but I know I was snacking, and almost choked because it struck me so funny, and I laughed out loud. :rotfl2:

What "secrets" about the game could they possibly have at this point anyway? Granted, I'm new to the show (this is my 2nd season watching) but there certainly doesn't seem to be any type of strategy other than "hurry up". Let the poor kids make friends.

That's what I was thinking.. There really aren't any secrets or strategies to share.. Poor kids.

They interviewed the step-mom in the beginning and she was quoted as saying she is not the typical step-mom, she gets along great with the step-kids, in the next scene it had them in a vehicle and the boy rolling his eyes when she talked. It also showed them later in the show him calling her something that rhymes with witch when she was yelling at him. Me and my husband just about fell out of our chairs, we thought, wait till she see's that on tv.

The Weaver Family having a melt down-if you have never experienced teenage meltdown on a vacation, lucky you. I have always said, with 4 teenagers and vacation-there will always be someone unhappy. We just learned you have to let them say their piece-or they can carry on forever. With the mom getting goofy with them-we just laughed-I could tell you countless stories of the goofiness we had with lack of sleep, lack of food and being up at 2:00 a.m. in the morning and traveling.
