Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

I totally forgot that this was on (shows just how into this season I really am). But when did they talk about how the Weaver father died?

If you go back to the beginning of this thread, there are a few links to the cause. But I think he died at the Nascar Racetrack in Daytona picking up Debri on the track and somehow he was hit by a race car that didn't know someone was on the track. I don't know if this was during an actual race or not, or if someone was testing their car.

If the shrimp boats were in Mt. Pleasant on Shem Creek, they could not walk to the visitor's center. I was curious about that, too. Maybe it was walk after you got to the Charleston side of the river.

It looked like when they were done on the shrimp boats they dropped them off near Waterfront Park. It surely isn't a CLOSE walk to the Visitor's Center from there, but it would have been closer than walking from Shem Creek :rotfl2: Although I wanted to see them walk over the new bridge!

I was a little glad to see the Aiello's go. In the past I really liked them, but they got nasty this week. There were really rude on numerous occassions to the Weavers for no apparent reason, and it really bugs me that they refer to the Ghagans as 'The Rugrats.'

As for the Weaver display. Coming from a family with a mother who lost her husband when she had 3 teenage girls, I can very much relate to them. Trust me! That wasn't that abnormal ;) I think the mother was just trying to be silly and make light of the fact that they were all really having a difficult time. I don't know about anyone else, but I get like that when I'm really tired. I get very silly, and I've been known to do ballet in a parking lot :dancer:

When I heard the they were going to be doing a family edition this year, I thought it might be an interesting change to the standard formula.

Now, I think it is an incredibly lame idea, and I hope they never do it again.

They took a shuttle for goodness sakes! And a bus!

Me and my husband were kidding during the show that next week they may go ALL THE WAY to Alabama or Florida, and we were right!

I am just about done with this season.

I'm joining in a little late but I was in the World for the frist two weeks of the race. I really thought that the Jersey family would be elminated...they are so rude to the mom.

Me too!

Yeah - the Jersey kids are rude to their mother - but she brings soooo much on herself!

I'm sorry to see the Aiello's gone. I, too, thought it was incredibly stupid to have the order in which they did the "spinning thing" be the order in which they finished! There should have been one more navigational task to try to let teams at the back have a chance!

This episode was poorly planned. The order of arrival at the centrifuge turned out to be the exact same order of finish at the pit stop - there was no room for anyone to catch up.

The length of this leg had to be hard, especially on the little kids. Started around 3am, the final bus left at 5pm and it was an 8-hour ride so they didn't get to the Space and Rocket Center till 1am. Add a centrifuge ride and a 1-mile run for good measure and you have a tiring leg.

The NJ family is irritating beyond belief but the mom was right on when she said "What is this, the Amazing Race, American Style?" I understand why they might not go to, say, India with little kids, but I hope they at least leave the country soon. Go somewhere with a language barrier!!

Was I the only one that expected to see the New York family get into it on the bus and then the other 3 families throw them off the bus somewhere? I was really surprised that they had "company manners"

You know, I was just thinking about the initial episodes where they showed the little interviews with the families. Do you remember the Ghagan mother stating that she felt her family would have an advantage with overseas travel because they had a lot of experience with it? Do you think the show would have told them if they were going overseas or not, or do you think she just assumed they would be since all other seasons have? I didn't know if they would have told them during casting that they would/would not be staying in North America.

ITA, it should be called The Amazing Race:Budget Edition

Seriously though, 10 teams x 4 people = 40 plane tickets. They can't possibly have that many available at the last minute

Geeze, glad someone else noticed how inappropriate it was for that comment. I did like them and was sorry to see them go, but calling them "The Rugrats" was totally uncalled for.

My biggest problem with this season seems to be that I just don't feel much emotion for ANY of the teams. In the past, my family members have really loved or hated teams like Rob & Amber, Chip & Kim, Jonathan & Victoria, Danny & Oswald, Flo & Zach. It was fun to root for and/or root against them. This season, all the teams are simply annoying me and the show's focus on domestic travel has become boring to watch. Maybe it's just me...

What is wrong with the word rugrats? I don't see anything wrong with it. My family has called our group of cousins rugrats for years and I have never taken it to be a negative word.
I for one am sorry to see the Aiello's go, I liked them. Now I have no one to root for as my 2 favorite teams are gone.

I too was disappointed about the finish this week. However, I have one observation.
When the first bus arrived it appeared that the teams got off the bus in the order they were on the sign up sheet. Thus, they were in the exact same order at the finish.
With the second bus it didn't appear to be that way, because didn't the Ghagans come to the sign up sheet 5th -or the first on the second bus?
They actually came off the bus 7th or next to last. Was it first come first serve off the bus? If that would have been the case then there would have been a mad dash for the clue box, fighting, pushing, etc. They must have regulated it in some way because the teams seemed to be somewhat spaced out. Plus, editing make it look like they are all close when they really aren't.
Did anyone else notice this?

Huh, we've also used "ankle biters" and "crumb snatchers" in addition to "rugrats". Had no idea it was offensive to some.

I have a question about the Brenson?? family. The one with the dad and the 3 daughters.

Why is the dad always commenting on how he is pulling the girls down because he can't keep up? Does he have health issues? He seems young enough to be able to keep up. Heck, older couples have competed in this race and never whined like he does, and they had to do MUCH more grueling, physical stuff.

I just shake my head when he starts whining, because he seems so YOUNG. Why does he talk like he must be 80 years old?

Well--my mom is not yet 50 and is medically disabled. I know a couple of ladies in their 70s that could walk circles around her hands down.

I don't think he has any ailments..but..

It was mentioned in an earlier episode that the girls are rather athletic..and "they" might have been complaining about dad--but I don't remember exactly. They keep referring to that more and more.

In any case--a senior couple who are of similar age and corresponding physique isn't the same as a dad in his 50s who isn't so athletic trying to keep up with his very fit children.

It was during the race--the caution flag was called..but the cars don't know it until they see the flag or their pit crew tells them. Dad worked for the speedway and went to go pick up debris. The car was going 100mph when the dad was hit. So they did slow down....but not slow enough :(.

They probably had their passports and such in order for the trip.

I agree...

Noone seemed to have trouble with the ladies being called the Desparate housewives. :teeth:

I'm not getting the whole rugrat/inappropriate connection either. :confused3 To me it's almost a term of endearment. It's what you call kids who are fiesty and rambunctious. I don't consider it a put-down at all.
