Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

Just subscribing to the thread. I thought the show was OK last night. I did flip over to L&O SVU at 10pm and then went back to TAR to see who came in last at the pit stop.

My favorite team so far is the Weaver's (of course it's my maiden name...so I'm biast). I also like the Aiello's.

I was sad to see this morning that the Black family was eliminated. They and the Gaghan family were my favorites so far. Can't stand the bickering Italian family and the Weavers (though semi-local) rub me the wrong way.

Should be a great season!

Glad the show is back on. The first episode is always confusing to me. I don't know the teams yet, don't have a fav...

I like that they are in the US. They will still have to find flights and the like. They won't be worried about the SW Ding Fares. :goodvibes

Can't stand the Bronx Brat Boys either.

Enjoying the family dynamics.

I didn't even know that the FIL/BIL family was local until the show started last night. I'd already picked them as my favorites simply because the FIL reminds me of my dad...and he has 3 SIL's...although I could never see my father surviving with all 3 SIL's. When I found out that they're from Mansfield...which is 10 minutes away and where my husband works, I was even more excited.

I do not like the Italian family from NYC. I did find it rather amusing that they were the ones who got lost in the city. My husband and I would have done well on that leg of the race. He's from North Jersey and knows his way around NYC pretty well. And once they started heading to PA, I knew exactly where they were since I drive that all the time to visit the in-laws.

I can not stand the Gaghan family or the Italian family. We are rooting for the Rodgers or the Linz family, we also like the Weavers. The sisters are not too bad, they are having fun. When my sister and I get together we laugh and screech too :teeth:

I love the Gaghans, Lutzes, Aiellos and the sisters.........even though that screaming is getting a little much.....and then they complained about how much the Weavers screamed in the store!

I think that the Gaghan mom said the little girl could run a 7 minute mile or something like that, and that she had run marathons. I just loved the second and third place finishes with the families running full out, and that little girl coming right up in there to beat out the others! That would've been a great first place finish!

I don't like the bickering either...........even if it is an "Italian" thing, some of the things the younger boy said were VERY rude to his mom.

I wasn't too excited about the family edition but it was better than I expected it to be. I like how the buggy task actually favored those with small kids, but it was balanced out by the rowing task which was easier for adult families. It will be interesting to see if they keep it even in terms of kid-friendly and adult-friendly tasks. Can't wait to see what they do for Roadblocks...

I COULD NOT STAND Mr. "by virtue of my male anatomy, I am the head of the household." It's appalling that there are still people who think like that. I feel really bad for his daughter.

The Italian family doesn't bother me so much... I think there is love there, but it's hard to see with the way they argue. I think that's just how they are.

Liked the family with the little kids. Also liked the sisters even though they were a bit squeaky. I'd love to see an all-female team win (especially if they beat Mr. Head of Household.)

I think the race will be good for the widow and kids team... a chance to do something positive as a family... but the praying did get old. "Lord, please help us not get lost." "Lord, please help me read this map." "Lord, please help me tie my shoe." If there is a God, I doubt that he watches reality TV.

Quote of the episode -- "Is Pennsylvania a state?"

Did anyone see the Black Family on CBS this morning and can provide a summary for us?

From the little I heard on my way to work this am was they were very humble and said they had a great time and they could/should not complain, they were lucky enough to be there at all. Really like this family :goodvibes

Me either  I couldn't believe that in the year 2005 there are still people that talk like that and have beliefs like that. I can't for the life of me remember which team it was, though. I know he said that right in the beginning intros, and then I forgot which team it was. Anyone remember? Thanks

Didn't see Mr. Male appendage makes me HOH....but there are plenty of couples that are quite satisfied with living that way...and though you may be disgusted....condemning their choice to live that way--isn't any better than him making the comment IMHO.

There are many faiths that practice to some degree this kind of mentality. May not be what you would do...may not be the normal thing to do...but she did marry the guy and there are plenty of woman--who do have a brain...who trust in that choice.

Lisa <----- whose hubby would be sleeping on the couch if he behaved this way. :teeth:

I'm pretty sure it was the Rogers Family from Shreveport, LA

I was not too happy with those comments either.

I'm another person who has never missed a minute of any of the Amazing Race episodes. I am so happy to hear that I'm not alone in my disappointment. Too much screeching from too many teams. The highlight of the night was seeing Drew and Kevin. I'll watch again if only to see if there are any other previous players showing up. Teams I'd love to see: Cha Cha Cha, Team Guido, Kris and Jon, Gus and Herra.

Thanks. I think I was expecting whomever it was to stick out more as being a little chauvenistic (sp?), but I didn't really seem to notice it throughout the race.

And, Lisa, I understand that, but for me personally it really bothers me. Women have spent decades trying to be equal and have rights and be seen as being equivalent to men, and then there are people that take us 20 steps back.

All the angles at Washington Crossing cut out my family watching..DARN!!!! how well, I"m enjoying watching....

I was going to ask you how many people were watching the crossing. I read an article this summer and it stated how to many people are recognizing the race and the racers. It is starting to hinder the race, not just in our country, but around the world people are recognizing the race.

I'm glad the show will mostly be shot in the U.S. I always said there is so much to do in the U.S. why do they always leave our country after one episode.

I can understand that--but even when it isn't your choice--it is a choice. Some couples are more sad to watch than others who live that way--but there are many who are quite content with the way they live.

My husband is half Italian, and thankfully, does not act this way. His half-siblings, however...are another story. They are all older than he is and 100% Italian. They scream at each other all the time. I almost told off one of his sisters last weekend because she was yelling at my mother-in-law (her step-mother). Believe me, if we'd been anywhere other than her house, I would have had something to say.

I guess that is kind of my point...just b/c they are that way--doesn't mean they reflect it in a negative way.

My hubby always wanted to marry a woman who would be a SAHM. He didn't require it of me though. (His mom is a SAHM....so he wanted his children to be reared with that experience). I hate working (the job I had sucked) so it kind of worked out that way.

I guess it just hits me personally because my dad passed away when I was younger, and my mom raised we 3 girls to be very independent and competent. I saw what she went through and I learned that you can't let someone else 'control' you because what happens if that someone else is suddenly gone? Would you be able to function in the world? You know?

I do see where you're coming from. I think watching the couples who scream and swear at each other is much worse. I'm not usually one to knock anyone's choice of lifestyle, but this one hit close to home for me.

We did not see the intro from the Rogers family, did the dad say something chauvenistic? Did anyone else feel the mom on the Gaghan family was condescending towards the other teams aboout them not being well traveled? Also I guess I am wary of her because her bio saids she is a marathon runner, I am a personal trainer and she does not seem to be a runner. It will be interesting to see how she does in the challenges.
