Funny you should mention that, I thought the same thing a few mins ago when I was going back and forth between this thread and the BB thread....

Trying out for the Amazing Race

I went to the web page for Amazing Race when they were looking for people. It was over 20 pages of questions to answer. Most were essay questions. I gave up, but I still think it would be cool to be on the show.

I could do the tasks and planning (they don't call me commando for nothing), it is just my sense of direction, I loose NESW really quick.

I do know how they come off to me whenever the camera is in their face.

Charla & Mirna. They really do get a lot of air time.

DH & I talk about it, but if we ever got on the show, people would be on this thread saying "how can these two be married?" We would battle the whole time. I could do the Race with my brother. But no, I won't be going to the open casting call.

Like I said before No, I don't have facts to back up my perception, but I don't think you do either. You just have your perception, same as me. I do know how they come off to me whenever the camera is in their face.

Charla said she would use the fact that people feel sorry for her to get ahead in the game. That is a fact, not a perception. Now that I think about the "what they meant" comment, it is only common sense to think that when someone is describing how they view themselves, they are basing that opinion on the way they live their lives, especially since the comment was made before the race began. I know the point you are trying to make, but based upon what? Exactly what do you mean when you say she isn't proving that she can do things on her own? Is there a specific example?

I am so happy to see this thread! My sister and I are Amazing Race fanatics!! As for Charla, she is WAY more capable than most other people on the race. Has Mirna even done 1 Roadblock yet? Charla does EVERYTHING! So what if she uses her perceived "disability" to her advantage? Flo used her knowledge of Italian to her advantage in AR3...if you are going to get ahead, you have to play the game however you can

By the way, I LOVED it when Charla and Mirna waited until everyone was sleeping before sneaking off to the earlier flight. That was so great!! I am really rooting for them to win.

Hi, SRUAlm!

Sorry I missed your post before. Thanks for your support. I understand people having personal opinions and impressions about all the different teams, I just feel that every move the C/M team makes is being scrutinized to a point where everything they do or say is being totally blown out of proportion, and that they are being viewed on a different level than the other teams. Which is what I don't get either.

Anyway, I see you are from Bel Air, I have family in Forest Hill. Isn't the weather today amazing? I could handle this all year long!

I am so done with this. All I know is that whenever they are in front of the camera they say that they are capable of doing everything on their own, they do not need anyone's help. In reality, they do need help. Sometimes, more help than other people. One example that comes to mind is when they carried the meat. They had locals help them carry their bags. They got extra help there that no one else got. My point is that they do need help, just like everyone else. That's all I have to say about that.

I agree Charla has completed every roadblock by herself except for one. I also agree that she is way more capable than alot of the other teams, their being in 2nd place at the moment proves that. I hope they win!

You don't need to get upset, I am only trying to express my thoughts and understand yours. To hold someone so strictly to a certain standard just seems to me to be a little unreasonable, and I don't understand why people are so determined to target C/M because they said they don't need help? C/M offered to work together and help" other teams on several occasions and were rebuffed then when they asked for help from other teams , they were rebuffed, so in turn when they replied fine we don't need anyone's help, don't you think they had justification?

First of all, I'm not upset. I just think this is completely ridiculous. I'm not holding anyone to any standard. I'm just saying how they come off to me. Originally when they said that people think they cannot do things, but they can, they weren't talking about their competitors, they were talking about people outside the game. So when I said that they said they were out to prove they can do things without any help, I meant help from people "outside" the game. They have gotten lots of help from people outside the game. People who carried their backpacks, people who stopped a ferry from departing because they had an "emergency", people who got them on a flight due to Charla's needing a "doctoro", etc. Again, I have no problem with them lying & manipulating to get ahead in the game (just like anyone else would). My problem lies in that they claim to be showing how they are able to get ahead in this race without help, yet they continue to get help all the time. As far as their "justification" for whining about no one wanting to align with them, I think it is funny. Anytime anyone whines about being stabbed in the back or being turned on, I think it is hysterical. It's a game.

Perhaps the miscommunication lies in how we each are defining "help". Apparently you see lying and mainipulating as "help" and I see it as a strategy every other team is using. As far as the locals carrying their bags, Mirna, not Charla asked for help. Charla was already carrying the side of beef! And really, so what? again I think that is just being way too picky and unreasonable. It's the same as other teams asking locals for help by paying to follow the cab driver or asking where the painting is in the museum, that's just being smart and using resources.

Do you also have a problem with Brandon/niki, and Chip/wife? because they've lied and said they were going to play honestly and haven't ?

I will admit I find Mirna's whining annoying, I haven't heard Charla complain once. I know it's a game, which is my whole point, what's the big deal? They aren't getting anymore help from people outside the game than any other team,in some instances much less. So Mirna asked a local to carry their bags, in the whole scope of the game, that seems pretty insignificant, and exactly what I meant when I said being held to a different standard than the other teams.IMO that is a little unreasonable.

Talking about C/M getting help with the bags during the meat challenge - I think we're blowing that wya out of proportion. I've noticed many times when a team races to an objective, they are not carrying their bags. Watch closely next week. How do the bags meet up with them? DO they go back for them later or does someone bring it to them? WHen C/M were racing to the camels, they did not have their bags with them and I don't recall seeing them with them on the camels. Does anyone else have any insight to this?

Ok you win....all I know from that one is the commercial, she left one on the side of the road and yelled out "don't hate the player hate the game" LOL

I think the Amish in the City is interesting, not to go totally off subject here...BUT....I really like all the Amish kids, and I DON'T Like Reese, he is always arguing with everyone.

My favorite has to me Mose, just to see him light up when he see's something he has never seen before, and when he was doing the runway show with all his new "city" clothes he got, I just want to give him a big hug...LOL

For what it's worth, I think we're supposed to be bugged by C/M. The editors have tons of footage on each team, and can show whatever they want. If they want a team to be the "gross" team they can select the scenes we're they're doing something gross. Heck, with that dry desert air I'll bet the cameramen have caught everybody in mid-nose-pick at least once.

I think the producers have "cast" C/M as "the whiny obnoxious team that no one likes." There's one of these teams every year; I think the virgins fit the bill last year, and the infamous Flo (or maybe Ian) the year before. So maybe we're being manipulated into disliking them.
