Amanda Knox found guilty.

I think for many people it's the fact that "it could be me". Well, to be specific - it could be my sister, she had a lot more in common with Amanda than I do. Basically I feel that I wouldn't want someone I love held captive to an unjust judicial system (and yes, I know the US system isn't always fair for all segments of society - that's not what this post is about). Her looks don't play into it for me. I usually have more sympathy for the unattractive because I think that life has kicked them in the butt from day one.

Also - while doing drugs and banging some guy you've known for two weeks isn't the most moral way to go through life - it doesn't hurt anyone by the person doing it and doesn't deserve a prison sentence. (in my view anyways)

I don't think her lifestyle is a reason for her guilt. I do think she had been portrayed in the US media in a way that isn't really true. She had this image of being this sweet, almost child like girl. That's not really true when you look at her lifestyle.

I also think the US media only addresses the problem with the prosecution so the story is of a young innocent girl who is railroaded by an unjust system. It's not that simple.

The coroner has said there were multiple assailants because of the nature of the wounds. Her and Sollecito have changed their alibis and they don't add up. She blamed an innocent man and let him sit in prison for weeks.

Her bloody footprints were found in the apartment with luminol. Her lamp was in Kercher's room. A woman's size 7 footprint was on the pillow with the body.

She acted strangely and had knowledge of the crime she probably shouldn't have ( she told the roommate Kercher's throat was cut).

Of course there's more but I don't want to make this any longer.

Her footprints were found in the hall way leading to the bathroom (I think) in Kercher's blood. They were found through luminol.
The shower is just a way to explain them. One of her stories is she came home to find the front door wide open so she took a shower. Found blood in the bathroom sink but took a shower anyways. Found blood on the bathmat after the shower (explaining the bloody footprints) got dressed and left.

For everyone who thinks there is absolutely no evidence, here's a snippet of an article with Alan Dershowitz's take on it.

"I would say that there are thousands of Americans in jail today on the basis of far less evidence than there is against Amanda Knox," Dershowitz, a Harvard Law professor, said.

"One, she first admitted she was at the crime scene and then denied it. Second, she falsely accused somebody who was totally innocent of committing the murder. Third, she turned off her cell phone during the relative period of time. Fourth, there was DNA found underneath the bra strap and on the knife.

"It wasn't enough to establish conclusively that it was hers, but it certainly pointed in that direction. There was a pool of blood with a footprint and the man who was convicted of the murder blamed it on her, testified against her, the court found that it couldn't have been done by one person, it had to be done by at least two people."

But whether Italy can compel Knox — dubbed "Foxy Knoxy" by the press — to return is up in the air, according to Dershowitz.

"Legally, she should be required if her conviction is affirmed, but she has been conducting an incredibly successful media campaign," he said.

"I have to tell you, in 50 years of practicing law, I had never seen a more one-sided presentation by the media in the United States of the case. Everybody is saying there's no evidence against her and she's totally innocent. It's just not true."

In America, everybody's ignoring the victim, everybody is pretending as if the Italian court system is the Iranian court system, and as if they made up all of the evidence against her.

"The truth is it's a very close case. There's a lot of evidence of guilt, there's some evidence of innocence. On balance, it's more likely than not that she did, but there's not enough evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt."

She was a sweet naive girl

Yes, certainly.....

A big part of it is a reason I referenced earlier: she is a prototype example of the dynamic behind "MWWS":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome

Granted, the travail Knox is dealing with is different. She is not a missing person, but instead someone that many feel was unjustly convicted. But the obsession with her is based on the same elements: the disproportionate degree of attention she is getting has a lot to do with her gender, skin color and attractiveness.

Or as Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz so aptly put it in a recent interview:

"As popular as she is here and as pretty as she is here -- because that's what this is all about, if she was not an attractive woman, we wouldn't have the group love-in -- she will be extradited if it's upheld."

This case and the one against the scientists show that Italy has NO JUSTICE at all, by the way it's not over she can appeal yet again and hopefully get a judge withe the backbone to look at the lack of evidence and not follow orders there is no evidence that puts either of them at the scene of the crime. But then again it's the country which let its prime minister make it virtually impossibly to put heir crooked ex prime minister in prison.

Yeah and actually those pictures of her are really tame compared to most other college kids pics I've seen!

Yep, every college college kid has photos of themselves that are identical to these tame shots of Amanda (which show not just her past but her very likely future):

The Italian court has been determined from day 1 to convict Knox.

As for the photos above, if I was being thrown in an Italian jail for a crime that I did not commit, I'd be crying too.

She won't be extradited.

That doesn't change what I said. Those pictures mean she had fun with her friends in college. Big deal. I was a sweet innocent naive girl in college, and that didn't change after I had a drink and took a stupid picture. What behavior takes that away?? What you drink and yo uare no longer sweet or innocent? Serioulsy??

The pics that Borishack posted are all too familiar. I remember them being posted in another Amanda Knox thread a couple of years ago, under another poster name.

Italy has NO JUSTICE at all

It was inevitable that the ugly Italy bashing would start up on this thread. Rather than engaging in that, why don't you call Disney and tell them its cruise line should boycott that country?

by the way it's not over she can appeal yet again

 Ahem, we already know that - she is now down to her one last appeal. And the experts aren't optimistic she will succeed in getting a reversal there.

She won't be extradited.

:rotfl2:That's reminds me of all the people here who months ago were saying "the mine train will definitely open in 2013".

But levity aside, the experts disagree with you:

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/2014/01/would-u-s-extradite-amanda-knox-heres-what-has-to-happen/

And let's also remind you that even if Italy didn't make an extradition request (which is fantasy, they most definitely would) for the rest of her life there would be a global Interpol warrant for the immediate arrest of Ms. Knox if she ever set foot in the scores of countries that have extradition agreements with Italy. They include both Canada and Mexico, all of Europe, a big chunk of Latin America and numerous countries in Asia. By the way: as I observed in an earlier post, all the more advanced Asian countries frown on visits from controversial expatriates. So in the fantasy scenario, Ms. Knox should not expect any applications she puts in for visas to places like China and Indonesia to be accepted. But there's some good news: she could visit Somalia and Botswana safely. :thumbsup2

Yes. There are and have never been any miscarriages of justice in the US. No one has been wrongfully imprisoned and certainly no one has been wrongfully put to death.

For the record, during a human rights course I took in college we had a man come to speak to us who had been on death row in Texas for nearly a decade. Turns out he was innocent, and incredibly lucky to get out rather than being killed.

Let it go Lolsmum, when I pointed this out, it was strongly suggested if I didn't like our "justice" system I should leave. :lmao: :sad2:

The bolded is not true.
