Amanda & Eric 03/03/10- WP/WHP/Sago Cay Centerpiece Ideas!

While I understand what you are saying - I am sorry I did not go to Kleinfelds. I used to work in the city and still go in all the time. I would have loved to have had their expertise in what type of dress works well for me and my body type. I also watch Say Yes To The Dress all the time and I find it very interesting. I loved my dress and it cost about 1/2 of their starting prices. I do agree with not taking too much of the consultants time. But you never know - a show from last year told of a bride getting her dress because it was due to be discontinued and the discounted it.

Linda

Thank you both!! It's not that I am not serious about buying a dress there...that may be a gift from my mom so it wouldn't come out of my wedding budget. It's just that I am not sure I want to spend that kind of money on a dress. I understand they work on commission, but regardless I wouldn't be a dress from the first store I went in anway, and I think they understand that.

you said it right there..you don't think you want to spend that much for a dress..You are trying to get together a deposit for the wedding, so that would be more important to me right now..TAKE THE GIFT TO HELP PAY FOR THE WEDDING! It's like FREE money! :rotfl:$10k less the gift will make it that much easier. :cool1:

I really don't want to sound negative, but I worry about stuff that isn't confirmed..I wouldn't be able to sleep until I had my contract paid for:goodvibes

I kind of agree here! I'd be more concerned with making sure I was definitely confirmed for locations and get a much more reasonably priced dress...unless you happen to go during some kind of sale and can get an amazing discount...

I am sure I will get flamed for this, but I am just trying to be honest..I LOVED the dress I tried on for $2000 but that was more than my ceremony cost! I am just trying to be practical..if you mom wants to do something for the wedding, let her give you the deposit so you can insure that your dream site is available!

I have to agree with this. I know that shopping at a fancy bridal shop would be fun, I understand that. But if your mom wants to help out, maybe ask her to pay the deposit. Maybe just as a loan? And you can pay her back when you get the money?

Hey there girl! It sounds like you have lots of ideas coming together, thats awesome! Love the yellow/green colors and for a March wedding you will have all the beginning of spring flowers in season so I bet you'll find something very affordable.

I do agree that the deposit is very important to get nailed down with DFTW because you never know what could happen, another bride could thinking of the same day/location/time or whatever. 1 thing I have learned from having lots of friends getting married this year is that dresses can be discontinued very quickly, so if you fall in love with something you should be ready to at least put a deposit on it... not sure how Kleinfelds works (wheather you pay up front or when the dress arrives) so I would at least mentally prepare yourself for that 1st. It would be such a shame if you found "the dress" and then couldn't get it... but I say have fun, don't take too too long at the store (especially if it's busy) and enjoy. They really will give you some good ideas and maybe you can use it when you do a little more shopping :)

Hey I just caught up with your posts! First of all the color combo is so great!! There are so many great yellow and green wedding ideas out there right now. Have you checked out www.stylemepretty.com yet? It has a lot of DIY ideas and inspiration boards in those color schemes that I think you might like! Also those yellow diamond pave earings you can find at a lot of places in the "costume jewelary" section. You'll be surprised how real they look!

Ok, for the dress. I'm so excited you're going to Kleinfields!! I went there back in January and it was such a fun experience. I thought it was a little strage that they would tell you about the $1800 because I know there are dresses there for a little less than that. Also, if you find a dress you love, you can look up when that designer is having a trunk show there, and go back to make your deposit. So how it works is you walk in and you'll be assigned a consultant, don't worry about taking up her time, they only give an hour per client basically and they are very helpful when it comes to budget. If there happens to be a trunk sale that day you should definitely ask about it because they give good discouts. A dress I was interested in was 1/3 off the original price! :woohoo: If you fall in love with a dress they take a deposit for half, and you won't be charged the full amount until it is shipped...also make sure they ship it to you to avoid NYC sales tax. I know that at first I wanted to take the money my mom was giving to me for the dress and put it towards our first home, but when I mentioned this she was very upset. Your mom may have been dreaming of this moment since you were a little girl, and it may have been her dream to buy you a dress. Even if it all ends up being out of your budget, sit back, relax, and enjoy being a princess for a day!! That's what being a bride is all about ;).

Thank you all for your opinions...but this is a GIFT from my mother and I can't exactly dictate what she spends her moneyon. I think it is very nice that she is doing anything at all since we didn't expect any help at all....so paying for my dress saves me money no matter what! Plus we have already talked about possibly not going...we are thinking about it and talking about it and we will decide together if we want to keep the appointment.

I do want to confirm DFTW but not matter how I look at it, I don't have the money today...

Wow...thank you so much!! I was wondering if they had any dresses priced less. I just want to see what they ahve to offer...and regardless if it's Kleinfelds or a local shop I don't know what they have till I go.

Speaking of dresses, mom and I bought some wedding magazines today and I found this:

We both fell in love and I am excited to go try it on :cloud9:

Just wanted to drop in and say hi! Dress shopping is so excited.

Now, my two cents on the deposit/gift from your mom, sorry I have to speak up and say I agree with you. If your mom says she is willing to help you out with the dress, that is an amazing gift within itself and very kind of her. I personally wouldn't ask her to pay for something else in place of that. I think to some mothers, buying the dress is important to them. I also truly believe that what is meant to happen will happen. If you can't afford to pay the deposit now, and something happens with it, maybe it's because your location is meant to be elsewhere. But that's just my attitude of going along with the flow and what happens was meant to be...

But, everything looks gorgeous and I can't wait to read more!

Hey Mandy,

I'm so sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you said she wanted to help out, I didn't realize it was specifically for the dress, I thought just in general. My deepest apologies :flower3:

That dress look beautiful! I love it :) Can't wait to see pics of you trying it on!

Ok...that dress is AMAZING!!!! Do they have it around here somewhere you can try it on?? You need to try it on!! The fabric is just so beautiful....i think it will be stunning on you. I went shopping with one of my best friends in NYC for wedding dresses once and every time I saw her in a dress I just got all sappy. I'm pretty sure I will cry when I see you in yours...I'm just emotional apparently. I think we knew that though lol. :rotfl:

Omg no need to apologize!! I know everyone was just sharing their opinions. I am sorry if my post came across as curt... I am really just overwhelmed with everything between moving next month, work and wedding planning!

Ok I am seriously in love with this dress...did you see the train!! I can try it on at a store in Brockport!! And it's super inexpensive!! So if my mom decides not to buy my dress...I am thinking maybe when we get back from our vacation we can go dress shopping!!:cool1:

Thank you so much. My parents and I split the cost of my first wedding so I totally understand they don't want to help pay for this one. If my mom chooses to pay for my dress as her gift/help than I will take it!! As far as the deposit goes, I guess I was just caught off guard. My raise isn't effective till the end of the month and my bonus is in June. Eric is building a motorocycle that he was going to ride all summer before selling off but now is thinking of selling off the parts to get the deposit in sooner. I am really hoping our location is still available but I agree with you, if it's meant to be...Thank you for sharing thought!

So my mom was looking at dresses last night and I think she is going to make hers:cloud9: She already picked out the most beautiful green fabric for it. I have been worried because she has hinted several times about being my MoH and I really don't know what to do. I really want her to walk me down the aisle and I don't want to hurt her feelings but at the same time I am not sure I "see" her as Moh. Oh wedding planning

I love that your mom can make her own dress...I wish I could do stuff like that! As far as MoH goes (ok...my opinion may be a little biased lol) I think being the mother of the bride is a position that obviously no one else can fill. It is even more important than MOH if you ask me! The job of the bridesmaids is to help the bride out and make the day easier for the bride. The MOB shouldn't be worrying about stuff like that...she should be relaxing with you and enjoying that fact that you are about to get married! I'm sorry you have to make a decision like that...it is hard for me to truly understand since I never would have wanted my mom as MOH (for obvious reasons!) but I think if your mom is there through everything, and knows how much you love her and need/want her there a label is not the important part.
Don't know if any of this helps lol...but in the end you need to do what you want not what she or anyone else wants. I learned that the hard way at my wedding!

Oh and wedding dress shopping after Disney...there are way too many things to look forward to now that you are engaged. It is so overwhelming lol!

My mom made a dress for our VR, but it was a modern fit pattern and once she got it done, it was too fitted in the waist for her liking..
She went to Steinmart and found the dress she ended up wearing and it matched so perfect. I was much happier with what she ended up with. The fabric of her first dress just didn't match that well, but I couldn't tell her that

As far as the MOH..I would tell your mom that you think the MOB is way more important..the MOB is the one who "starts" the wedding..she is the last person seated, she stands up to signify that the bridal march is suppose to begin and that everyone should stand..and if she is your MOH, who are you suppose to kiss before getting to the alter

see...you just have to convince her that MOB is a much better role

Thank you both... That is what I really want. When I got married the first time my Mom didn't walk me down the asile...I had always pictured just my dad and I. I know it hurt her feelings and I kinda of regretted it. After everything I Have been through I really want her there to walk me down the aisle and be there as my mom and my best friend. I agree with Lauren that Mob is a more important role than Moh. I found a really nice poem and a Will You Walk Me Down The Aisle card I think I am going to give her :lovestruc

That sounds like a wonderful idea. I really think she will be so happy you want her to walk you down the aisle. I didn't know they had cards like that...a very cool way to ask her!

So my mom and I decided to spend the afternoon together and go shopping. We started at JoAnn fabrics and amazingly came up with my bridal bouquet and my MoH bouquet (I think!!)

Then we decided to stop in David's Bridal just to look...well before I knew it we were picking out gowns to try on!! I never would have thought they had an open appointment on a Sunday afternoon in April.

I didn't like most of what I tried on...too heavy or poufy, just too much. I was suprised since I would have thought I liked that kind. I tried on a beautiful new gown they got in with a pickup skirt, but I hated it!

Here is my 2nd favorite...I can't find a pic on their website...also this is from my camera phone. I had a bra on with boning under it, so it looks a little funny.

Then came this gown...OMG my jaw just dropped. It was amazing. I don't need a bra since it has one built in and it just fit me amazingly! I want to drop about 15 lbs but I still liked the way it fit. I would have NEVER tried this on because I hated how it looked on the model, but I am so glad I did. I also tried it with this awesome feather clip for my hair and was just in love!!

I obviously have more shopping to do but I think we need to rethink our colors. I am not thrilled with the idea of yellow if my dress is ivory. I still like the green and pink but am not sure.

Oh other big news, we decided on Randy Chapman for our photography. I am going to put down the deposit tomorrow:cool1:

Oh Mandy! You look beautiful in both dresses! :goodvibes

Dress shopping must be so much fun! My mom and I go into David's Bridal all the time to look at gowns for fun, lol
