When I worked in the fashion industry, it was well known that VS designed low-quality (NOT long lasting) lingerie for teens and women under the age of 40.
In large part this can be seen in their relatively restricted size menu and the fact that none of their bras were truly supportive (in the industry's definition, which was to raise the uh peak of your breast to its 'correct' position -- mid-bicep -- without the use of padding).
This design decision on their part is deliberate -- women over 40 need structural support which requires skilled engineers to create rather than lingerie designers and women over 40 do not buy underwear as often as younger women. So, VS would have to invest more in their technology and for women who aren't impulse shoppers when it comes to undergarments -- it probably doesn't make sense to them as a mall impulse store.
Personally, I haven't shopped there for bras since I had my dd and went in there looking for a more supportive bra and the teenybopper clerk tried to talk me into a Miracle Bra. Honey, for the love of gawd, I don't need to make MORE of this, I need to lift what I've already got! I recently did buy a pair of underwear in there and frankly, they were less well-made and less comfortable than a pair of no-show panties I bought at Target for half the price. I won't be back.
