Am I the only one who knows nothing about The Divinci code?

I know it was supposed to be a good book, I think it is something anti religion. I think hell would freeze over before I see it. Just like passion of the christ, I dont give a flying fig.

You sure told them! Hmmm, a society in which one can own historical facts - interesting concept

:sad2: I find this sad, because it simply isn't true! As a Catholic, it always bothered me when the church TOLD me what to watch or read! As a adult I truly believe I can make my own decisions. As a American I ALWAYS question any Authoritative body. It is not only our right, but our responsibility!

I understand the Churches stand, and that is fine for them. However, I do believe you should satisfy your curiosity, this book is VERY ENTERTAINING! If you do read it and find anything blasphemous, just put it down.

A lot of stuff we do is Very Entertaining but that doesnt make it right.

I havent seen any respectable God-fearing, Bible-respecting group to advocate seeing this movie. EWTN (the Global Catholic Network) has been basically beed running around the clock programming against this movie.

You may not wish to watch it. Heck, it may be a mediocre movie. But please don't rely on EWTN. You will be led into error for sure if you do

You certainly should not rely on "the DaVinci Code" as accurate history. It is not. It is fiction

I do think EWTN is an important voice for the Church. But, not just EWTN but whole Catholic Church as well as the entire Christian Church should be against this movie/ book.

If people are so interested in learning more about Jesus read the Gospel.

don't know about it either.
i guess there wasn't enough threads about it earlier

So you are saying that all the christian that have posted in the numerous threads regarding this topic and stated that they like the book are not respectable????

Why should the church be against a work of fiction that claims to be fiction? There are no claims that this book is an historical account about Jesus.

I'm was talking not about historical facts but whole sentences. Those of us who went to school,I'm sure remember our teachers discussing plagiarism

:teacher: For those who don't remember:
to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source
intransitive senses : to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source*

Many authors of fiction in either an introduction or afterword credit sources used in the research of their books.

*These definitions are from Merriam-Webster online. This is called crediting a source for those unfamiliar with the concept.

Actually I have seen Dan Brown on TV say it is a fiction book, but much of what is in there is fact. So some who hear that start to "look" for the facts and then make some of the fiction into fact in their minds. This is where it becomes dangerous. I know enough about the Church and history to know where the facts end and fiction begins. But some do not.

Around here, the church is doing something more useful and constructive -- using the book/movie as a tool for discussion, rather than something to boycott and try to force people from discussing. And yes, in the Catholic Church as well as other Christian Churches.

IT IS FICTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not gospel of any sort. Why do people find that so hard to grasp?!?!?!? Why should the church be against a book that is fiction? Is faith so fragile that even fiction works threaten them? I honestly don't get this argument at all. :confused3

If it's in those exact words,I've been plagiarized! :lmao:

I usually don't comment on non-Disney posts; and I usually don't comment on a post without reading all of the other responses before writing my own.

But, I'll make an exception this time.

The book is a work of FICTION. Many people are unable to tell fact from fiction.

The book is a great read. A real page-turner.

Enjoy.

The book was very good and I'll go see the movie. But, the actual precept of it I take as total fiction since even though I'm not thrilled with the direction my church (Roman Catholic) has taken recently I do find the premise to be against my beliefs and I don't think the Church is treated very kindly.

Quite True! But reading this VERY ENTERTAINING work of fiction isn't wrong. In fact I found it quite uplifting!
My point is that I am ADULT and can make these decisions on my own. God gave me Free Will!

Please read some of the other responses on this thread. There are many Christians writing very good things about the book. The movie has not been released or reviewed yet. So no one can make any reasonable judgements on it.
I do not 'fear' the Bible, this is not a Catholic concept!
