Am I the only one NERVOUS about the vaccine? And I’m very PRO-VAX

Can you tell me where you read that, because this article says that kids who had the chicken pox vaccine have a much lower rate of getting shingles than someone who didn't get the vaccine: Can the Chickenpox Vaccine Cause Shingles Later in Life? | Live Science
"Nearly 99 percent of children who receive the vaccine will not get chickenpox at all," Schaffner told Live Science. "The remaining 1 percent who do get it will get a much milder version of it. Therefore, a vast majority of people receiving the immunization will not develop shingles later in life."
I thought you only got shingles if you had chicken pox when younger ?

My husband had shingles in Feb so I got a shingles vaccine than. Usually they give it to you when your 60 or older. I’m 58 but have other factors so our doctor sent me for one. Anyway I need the second one which is 2-6 months after the first. But I’m waiting to get my COVID shot first than will have to wait 2 weeks to get the other vaccine.
Not to drag this back a few pages, but I believe the poster leahgoogle was stating that younger people who had had chickenpox (not the vaccine, but true blue chickenpox) have been experiencing increasing shingles cases because, hypothetically, they aren’t “exposed” to fresh cases to get boosters.

Like what was mentioned, shingles is more prevalent with age; that’s why the current shingles vaccines are generally for those over 50+. But the theory is that before the chickenpox vaccine, “younger adults” who had already had the chickenpox were exposed to cousins, their kids, nieces/nephews, etc with active cases, which gave the adults a mini-booster.

But now “younger adults” (aka me, I guess, when I got it in my 20s) are getting shingles more often, because they aren’t getting this booster from exposure. All the kids they’re around have the vaccine. So those kids are protected from chickenpox (and shingles), but the younger adults aren’t getting a boost, and their bodies aren’t as capable as fighting off a shingles occurrence.

Again, this is a theory, not fully proven. There could be a billion other reasons: stress, more people with compromised immune systems, better diagnostics, etc.

well, a friends father just died of a blood clot 24 hours within getting his 2nd shot. His daughter , a nurse, knows of at least 10+ cases.
I tried mentioning this on another platform, & got totally jumped on that there is no evidence linking the vaccine to deaths, that each one is examined & determined unrelated. There are prevention protocols for Covid, along with Treatments, when executed at 1st symptoms.
I am interested in hearing details of this; 10 cases? OMG.
No one's medical story in the Covid horror is unimportant.
I am very sorry and sadness for your friend. Hugs to all.

I plan on taking a vaccine at some point, but am not comfortable with what is happening right now. I heard several emergency vehicles yesterday that kept stopping near us, my daughter works at Kroger and said they had a "bad" batch of J & J that sent 3 people to the ER. My father is 72 and never spent a night in the hospital since birth. He reacted to the Moderna vaccine and spent 3 days hospitalized. A cousin who is in super good shape in the same bloodline was off work 4 days due to a Moderna reaction. I know there are others in development and will be taking a wait and see until I am comfortable with something hopefully better.

sensitive right now the family is really grieving. If i get more info I will let you know,

... I broke my wrist and they had to reset it, and gave me a shot of Lidocaine and was allergic. So no I will only take something that I know what is in it...
If it's any help, I have Caine allergies ranging from moderate to severe. Had my second Pfizer shot a few days ago. My doctors researched the vaccine ingredients and thought things would be fine as long as I was careful. They have been following up with me through this whole vaccination process to make sure that I'm doing okay. So far, so good. My side effects have not been severe or unmanageable in any way. I have many drug allergies and have not reacted badly to the Pfizer vaccine. Whatever you decide, I hope this is helpful to you.

The thread started out fine enough but as I got deeper into reading this doesn't sound like a person who is very pro vaccination and just nervous about getting the actual vaccine. It sounds like the opposite. I'm with you, I want people to get the vaccine but it's a bit strange to have people get the vaccine but then talk so negatively about it. I thought this thread might be good for people to comfort each other but I'm not sure how that could ever be the case when you have people who want the vaccine but talk very negative about it. How is that supposed to ease your anxiety?

Sadly I feel like it went off the rails when people started posting that they definitely were NOT getting the vaccine and then others started to counter with all the same reasons we’ve all heard before and which aren’t particularly sympathetic to any other point of view. That leads to lots of pointless back and forth, but sadly also brings out my “yeah, why DON’T they think about that?” reaction in some cases.

I have literally argued with others who don’t want to get their kids their normal vaccines. I’m fully vaccinated - including against rabies! So are my kids (minus chicken pox which they are getting this year) and every other family member. So yes, very pro-vax, just hesitant about THIS one.

I switched my appointment to be for Pfizer, same day (today!) as that is what the rest of my family has had. Yes, there have certainly been some bad reactions to all four of the big ones known to us in the US and Europe/GB. For most of those I think coincidence is largely at play. It’s only the AZ and now J&J ones which I questioned and my questions mainly run along the “why wouldn’t they just completely stop using them until they have all the data?” which is where I get to my “this is suddenly feeling too rushed and desperate to me” feelings.

So this was with either moderna or Pfizer? I thought the blood clot issue was with AZ or J&J. Very sorry for your friends father, what an awful thing to happen.

Anecdotally, I find this to be true. I’m in my 30’s and have shingles, I’d say 50% of my friends and family my age (we aren’t talking huge numbers-maybe six people) have also had it.

My worry this entire time hasn't been short term side effects (chills, fatigue, sore arm, etc). But what side effects are we going to find out about in 10, 15, or 30 years? Are we going to be seeing ads saying "Diagnosed with Alzheimers/Lung Cancer/<insert disease here> and you had the Moderna/Pfizer/J&J/AZ Covid vaccine? You may be entitled to money. Call 1-800-555-1234 and talk to one of our lawyers."

And yes, I've been vilified repeatedly on here for expressing my concerns. Oh wait, before I upset anyone, there were a handful of people who said my concerns were valid.

Hope your appointment goes well :flower3:

So sorry for your loss... yes, unfortunately my sister who is a nurse has seen similar outcomes. It is hard as sometimes things aren’t related to the drug or vaccine but when it is so closely linked in timing to the vaccine I don’t know how you can just discount that. This is why everyone needs to decide for themselves. Everything is a risk & we should be able to decide what risk we want to take.

yes & it is still damaging many young girls. So yeah not the best example. That vaccine is horrible & should be removed from the market. So even with years of research they missed the large safety issues... 🤔. But yeah let’s move forward with vaccinating the whole world... that will go well... 🤦‍♀️
Yeah with all due respect it's clear I don't agree nor can I get behind virtually anything you say. I just can't expend my breath on trying here so I'll just leave it as hope you have a good rest of your day.

::love: Let us know how it goes (and welcome to the Pfizer-taking club:)!)
