Am I the only one devastated by the Country Bear Jamboree Updates just released?

You are not the only one. CBJ was my second favorite part of all of WDW, edged out slightly by HDDR. I laugh the whole time. It's not even nostalgia--I didn't start to enjoy it until I was an adult.
I said this in the other thread, but changing the songs takes all emotions out of the bears--their entire life stories--and risks making them a Chuck E Cheese type attraction. WDW is supposed to about telling stories. Loosely bear-themed music isn't really a story that needs to be told, IMO.

I now kind of want an album titled Loosely Bear-Themed Music.

One issue Disney always struggles with when doing refreshes is that there needs to be NO question that the newly updated attraction is better than the previous yet this is rarely the case. A couple examples are Test Track, Figment, and now Splash Mountain.

While yes it could, it's also one of Jim Henson's final Muppets project. Very hard to change that up.

I am genuinely surprised at the puritanical outlook of some of the posters here.

The content of the old songs was great, funny and authentic, they were generally well received by the audience every time I was there.

Its just a shame the tapes had deteriorated so much and the sound was getting bad. It was time for an update.

In an ideal world, the refurb would update the electronics enough to allow multiple shows to play. How could would it be if there could be a new show for kids, but the classic show would start at 7pm or something? That's how they preserved Impressions of France when that singalong thing started in the same theater.

As the carousel always points out, you cannot stop progress. Giving new generations something of their own with a tie back to previous generations is a nice gift IMO. Keeping something old for sentimental reasons isn't good enough, it still has to entertain and capture an audience. That is something the country bears and Tiki Room never accomplished, so an update/ reimagining makes a lot of sense to me personally.

Carousel is a bit different, it's almost like we are so far removed from when it was based around that there needs to be an additional room, and a refurb on the room of the future. Either way i would love to see it!

I think they need to time-jump more between scenes. Like, start in the 1900s then go to the 40's/50's then 80's/90's, then today or the near-ish future. It would require reworking the entire show, but unless they can add more scenes, that's the best way to update it.

? The Tiki Room is a full show every time I've seen it. Maybe not at the end of the night but during the day it's a full house.

I've never seen Tiki Room at WDW more than about a third full. DL seems to be a little more popular. We do go at off-peak times to the parks though.

If you go around lunch time/early afternoon the show times can get pretty full. It's a good way to get out of the oppressive Orlando heat.

I do remember the DL version being consistently full during my last visit.

DL version is definitely more popular, but MK version does okay.

I would prefer they move it to the Captain Eo theater and make a 4-D version though. Enough with the short movies already.

Yup, that makes perfect sense now that you said it, i can only imagine the dissent from fans for changing a Walt original in its totality (even though he would have been the first to say it needed to be done haha)

Muppets could use a lot of updating IMO it needs to be updated to current times which is what the Muppets have always done

It's already been heavily redone at though - it is not really the "original" at this point.

However they split up the past timeline is OK by me, but the final scene is supposed to be the future - and it is not. The attraction was last updated in (checks Wikipedia) 1993, which was (checks calendar) WHOA! 31 years ago! I think in today's day and age, the final scene needs to be more of a warning about AI and being too reliant on our smart phones. Kinda hard to sell that narrative when the people in the theater are in the process of getting their next G+ LL on their smart phones while they enjoy the AC though.

Interestingly, that final scene does have stuff that has very recently come into the home - VR and voice assistants are both prevalent (albeit primitively depicted). I love COP, but it really does need a refresh.
