Am I the only one BUMMED about DCL?

I dont think they will change the Wonder 3/4 day, or do you think they will turn the Wonder into a 7 day out of Florida?
The Disney Wonder schedule for 2005 is already published, and DCL is accepting bookings. All cruises are 3 or 4 nights. So, no 7-night cruises on the Wonder.

The big question is, if the Disney Magic goes to California, will the Magic only offer 3 and 4 night cruises while there? Or will the Magic offer some 7-night cruises down to the Mexican Riviera?

If you really want to do a seven day cruise out of FL during the time the Magic "Maybe" on the west cost then you can always do a back to back 4night 3 night cruise on the Wonder. The one big thing is you would not go to the same island's as the Magic.

Also when you do a back to back most of the times you can get the same stateroom and not even have to leave the ship on the change over day.

This is just a idea :)

I'm on the west coast and at first I was a little bummed. Since doing the Eastern in July 03, we've been planning on doing the Western in July 05. Already knew I wanted to swim with the stingrays in Grand Caymen and see the ruins in Cozumel.

But then I started thinking about how cool it will be to have the Magic out here. We can actually drive to the port and not have to fly out the day before. I'm not thrilled about cruising to Mexico but it's the Magic that makes the cruise wonderful, not the ports.

I will only be disappointed if only 3 and 4 day cruises are offered.

On the minus side for back-to-back Disney Wonder cruises:
-- Same Walt Disney Theatre shows
-- Same menus
-- Nassau twice

On the plus side:
-- Castaway Cay twice

I am a Californian, and live in CA. So, I would be thrilled to have DCL nearer me! We travel to FL every 3 years or so just so we can cruise!

I thought their were rumors of another ship?

Anyway, East coasters, do not worry! There are a lot of cool things to do out here!

I will admit, WDW is MUCh better than DL/DC! But, we have many wonderful sites to see in CA!

My biggest cons for the back to back are no formal and semi formal nights(Ive been waiting for this to get a family portrait done) and not going to the ports I had hoped for....not to mention the fact that my parents wont go now and we had pretty much done the impossible of having my DF agree to going. ;)

In a way I do like the idea of repeating the shows and the menus because that way we could do overlapping activities on the second cruise(ie, skip a show to go to Palo one night and still take the kids to dinner). However, I dont know if it would really be worth another cruise just to do that.

There's been a 1 or 2 ship fleet expansion in the planning stages for several years. But there is no new ship under contract, so there won't be another ship in 2005.

If DCL orders a new ship soon, there could be a new ship in 2006. But it's also possible that DCL is destined to remain a 2-ship cruise line.

I can see where it would be a nice idea to move the ship for the summer of '05 but it did put a damper on my plans. We just finished our first ever cruise, 3 nights on the Wonder Feb 12-15th, and I decided on-board that we would do it again and then some. I looked into the on-board discount but wanted a June '05 -- which they couldn't offer.

We will most likely do a West Coast trip in the next few years but if we do we wouldn't be interested in doing a cruise -- I'd want my 4 kids to see San Diego, LA, a National Park, Grand Canyon, oh, and that Disneyland place too. I was ready to book on-board though.

I was going to ask the same question as Horace... If the Magic does go to the west coast for the summer of '05, will they only offer 3 or 4 day cruises or do you think they'll offer 7 day cruises? If they offer the 3 or 4 day cruises only do you guys think they would pair them up with a few days at Disneyland/DCA, like the land/sea packages they offer here with WDW? I for one have totally mixed feelings about it.

I have to admit that I'm THRILLED with the possibility of DCL moving a ship to the west coast for the Summer of 2005. It opens up the possibilty of DCL doing a Panama Canal Cruise, and that would be GREAT. DH and I will also be celebrating out 10 year anniversary in 2005, and taking a Panama Canal Cruise on DCL would be a GREAT way to do it. We'd only be interested in the re-positioning cruises, not anything out of CA. We already are booked on the November 6th Magic, but if the Panama Canal Cruise becomes a reality, we'll be moving to one of them. Preferably the one in May, since our anniversary is in May. If it doesn't happen, we'll cruise in November, otherwise we'll be waiting for what I think would be the cruise of a lifetime!!! DCL and the Panama Canal, I don't think it can get any better than that.

Living in Oregon it is a long day to get to Florida. We have done it twice and are doing it again in May but to have the Magic a little closer would be amazing. It is still a 19 hour drive to LA for us but every now and then an airline will have some lower fares down there. The only problem with them doing it in 05 is that we already have plans to go to the Cook Islands that year. Don't know if I can swing two big trips :worried:

I guess I can hope that they do expand the fleet and place a ship over here for good :bounce:

:snooty: East coasters morn:mad: and West coasters rejoice!!:bounce:
It would be a big problem for us since we drive to Florida for vacations. And with a family of five , would really mean cruising added on the cost of a plane ticket to California would be near to impossible to do !
Guess What:confused: From the Pacific Northwest it costs us an arm and a leg to get to Florida for a cruise. (Oct '04 still over $350 per person.)

Someone else said that DCL would loose a lot of money by moving the Magic out west. It sounds like they probably will be loosing a lot of YOUR money. There is a big market out here in the west. Just like the east coast people don't want to spend the money and time traveling west, there are a lot of people who will take advantage of the ship sailing out of California that would never consider going to Florida for the same reasons.

We sailed post 9/11 and had the $99 3-night vouchers. We thought about it and passed because for the three nights, plane tickets and a weeks vacation time (one day there and another day returning) the cost was approaching $2,000. If DCL was sailing out of So.Cal. total cost would have been about $900.

I believe that prior to 9/11 DCL was close to ordering 2 new ships. Since vacation travel and the economy is picking up, we will see an order for new ships in the next 12-18 months.

Former DCL President Matt O. is now the head guy at Disneyland and he has kept T Irby onboard. T Irby was instrumental in getting DCL Florida up and running. Maybe he's going to do the same for DCL California.

Oh yea and for now it JUST A RUMOR!

I am Thrilled about the possibility. I am sorry for all of you on the East Coast. But think of all of us on the West. I have never been able to afford to send my whole family on a plane to go to WDW or the Cruise line. Now I will have a chance. Without making anyone mad, You have all been so lucky for so long, it is time for us to get a chance. I know and can understand why many are upset that you drive to florida, and won't be able to take your whole family out to the WEst Coast. Yep, that is how it has been for me. I couldn't take everyone out to the EAst. I hope hope hope it happens. Whether its the Panama or Alaska or Mexican Riveria, I just want to finally be able to take all my six children, without going into debt, to make a trip out there. We have only taken 2 of our children out to WDW, because the cost wouldn't allow us to take all of them. Just back from the Eastern 2/7/2004, but only DH and I came. Now maybe we can all go. I hope all of you East Coasters will understand. We want a chance at it too. I am hoping mmouse37 will come out and go with us.:Pinkbounc :bounce: ::yes:: :

originaly posted be MiaSRN62.............Driving to CA is not an option for us, as it is much loner. Adding airfare + rental car for family of 5 pushes us pretty far out of our budget.
As for Mia and others who have posted their regrets about the Magic possibly moving to CA for a FEW monthes I do feel your pain as one who has had to shell out big bucks for airfare in the past and has to do it again next year for the privalege(sorry my spelling is horrible) to cruise with the mouse. I think that it will be nice to give us west coasters a few monthes at a chance to cruise Disney without having to add airfare to our budgets. We dont even know if this is going to happen or not but, atleast you know that if it does it will only be temporary and the Magic will come back to you soon. We on the west coast do not have that comfort. Even if it does come here it is only going to be for a short period of time then its back to Florida and high airfare for us. We may have to wait years (if even that) to have a ship we can call our own over here, you already have two. Also the few months the ship MIGHT be here will be high season and some of the highest ticket prices, it would be really nice to be able to sail during the cheaper months AND not have to purchase airfare, you all have that opportunity. We can only pray to one day have the same. I truly hope I did not upset any fellow DISers with this post I just wanted to add my 2 cents. :D

Only problem that I can see with the California itinary is that they don't normally cruise to the Panama Canal in the summer--it is strictly a fall/winter cruise due to the heat down there in the summer--anyway that is how the other cruise lines have their Panama Canal cruises--it is always a longer cruise and always when school is in session! Would love to do Disney there though. I also have to agree that Disneyland certainly has charm--I like Pirates out there better and really love the Indiana Jones Ride. Certainly not as large as the Magic Kingdom but it has so much charm!! Haven't done California Adventure yet but that is another possibility to a California cruise!!

Your post didn't upset me ( I understand why you would want it there ). I would love it if their were cruises out of both areas. I did not know that it would be a temporary thing either. ( where is everyone getting there info ) I said in my post I was confused and was waiting for more info. I would love to come to DL and would love the chance to cruise with Disney from California ( if I had the money ). Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could have their cake and eat it too ? I guess we can all dream ? Maybe one day there will be two ports and everyone will have their dreams fufilled.

I totall agree with you jrabbit and minniemoms! It takes us over 5 hours to get to Florida from Utah on a plane and only 1 flight each day is nonstop so we usually end up with at least 1 layover each time. With 5 of us traveling one of which is a very impatient 5 year old it just stinks for us to go. It also ends up costing us over 1000.00 just for airfare alone! We suck it up every year and deal with it so I for one am SO happy this might happen! We can fly into LAX for a total of $400.00 on SW and it's only a 1 1/2 hour flight for us. It's only for a total of 3-4 months IF it happens and then all of you on the east will get "your" ship back and we will be the ones going back indefinitely to the exhorbitant airfares, no drive time and expense that you on the east coast will only incur for about 4 months time! I am so excited I am waiting breathlessly to see if it happens! You can bet my whole family (including brothers and sister in laws and nieces and nephews) will be on that sailing...that totals about 40 people....and we all cant wait to see if it happens!

Come on DCL..send your ship out west so that some of us can go without robbing a bank or taking out a 2nd mortgage on our house!

Heidi

We got our info about he Magic only being out here for a few months because DCLs schedule has bookings in Florida from September on.:D

Yea Hydster:bounce:
Airfare from Utah is cheaper than it is out here in Central CA, so you can only imagaine how $$$$ it is for us. I agree don't want to Mortgage the house. And Disneyland is Wonderful. NO it isn't as big as Magic Kingdom, but it IS WONDERFUL Pirates IS better, and so is Its a Small World. No comparrison there. Especially when it is all lite up for Christmas. And Soaring Over California, in Disney's California Adventure is incredible. A MUST DO!!! ::yes::

Yes, Epcot if my favorite in Florida, and yours is bigger, but smaller is magical. Love it, But we do need a cruise line out here. Hope it comes, and I hope it won't be booked before I get a chance I will still have to drive 6 hours to get there, but it's a lot better an a 6 hour flight with layovers. Let me know if anyone heres about it..:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Well I live about 30 minutes from Port Canaveral and I am thrilled at the possibilities. I was already planning a DisneyLAND trip for 2005 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Disneyland. It has such a different feel than WDW. Much more intimate, and I love that you can walk between the hotels, the parks and Downtown Disney. If we could get on the repositioning cruise, I would be out of my head excited. The cruise and then DisneyLAND would be so perfect. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
