Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

:lmao: I have been called a man once or twice in my lifetime and I have to say, as a man I did nor feel demeaned by that original comment. I was able to read it in the context that it was written. It was humorously saying that the dancing was equivalent to what one would expect to see in a strip club. So, I can't purposely take that comment out of context and fake outrage over it. Now, let's get back to discussing how having girls dressed as prostitutes and dancing like strippers is not demeaning to young women.

I agree.

The outrage over that comment is really a strange detour in light of that video.

Since I have no idea what "condensention" means, I'll have to skip an explanation of whether or not it was in my post. ;)

condescension

Pronunciation: \?kän-di-?sen(t)-sh?n\
Function: noun
Etymology: Late Latin condescension-, condescensio, from condescendere
Date: 1647

1 : voluntary descent from one's rank or dignity in relations with an inferior
2 : patronizing attitude or behavior

It IS a dance costume styled to invoke the look of lingerie. Dance costumes come in different styles. I saw some minis dancing to "It's Raining Men" in costumes styled to look like little raincoats. It was adorable. Also a hip hop team dancing to "Car Wash" in jumpsuits styled like an auto worker's uniform, and a jazz team dancing to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy wearing costumes that looked like military uniforms.

The girls in the OP are wearing dance costumes, but they are costumes styled as trashy lingerie. It's gross and it's tacky, and if my dd's dance studio tried to put her in something like that, we'd say no. Too bad more parents don't take a stand. "Well, that's just the way it is", is no excuse in my book.

I have to agree with you on this.:thumbsup2 We as a society have become so desensitized that it makes me wonder what would be considered crossing the line. I hate to see the level of appropriateness dropping lower and lower for our children.

Personally, to me they are talented little girls dancing to a popular song. That is all it is.

Others want to see it as something evil, so be it.

We all have make the choices for our own children and our own lives.

I will say that I think some of the comments that have been made here against these little girls are totally inappropriate as was the comment about the men in the audience. MUCH more inappropriate than anything these children were doing.

Is there anything 7 y/o could wear or do in a dance routine that you would consider inappropriate?

I agree.

Wasn't a detour, I personally thought the entire combination of the routine was a bit much but not enough to question others morals of other people. The comment that I quoted did offend me; if you don't find it offensive - good for you.

Aw, thanks! But I already know what "condescension" means. :thumbsup2

Well, we agree on that point. :)

The comment didn't offend me. I took it as a highlight of how the routine was "a bit much", not as a statement of men in general.

I thought the dollar bill comment was extremely tacky.

I think several posters think their way of thinking is the only appropriate way of thinking.

I also learned a new word today. :) Thanks, Robin! I'll try to use it in a sentence this week. :thumbsup2

I haven't seen the video in question so I can't comment on it. ;)

And I predict this thread will be locked in less than 2 pages from now.

 Ummm...exactly what you posted?

"Condensention", not so much.

"Small things amuse small minds." ~Sister Jean Theresa, 6th grade~

And with that, I will exit the thread since it just seems to dance round and round in circles :dance3:.

After looking at the pics and YouTube videos of the other teams, the girls were underdressed. I've also decided that this whole thread should come with the following warning:

(If you don't get it, ask a Duggar. ;))
