Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

I was not comparing the dances - I was explaining that dance moves that might seem sexual when performed by an adult are not sexual when performed by a child that does not understand their sexual nature. They are just funny dance moves. :upsidedow

The situations are apples and oranges. If your son's little dance was done up on a stage in front of strangers and posted on youtube, you can bet people would have a lot to say. It doesn't matter if the child doesn't understand the 'sexual moves' because most adults doso that alone makes them sexual. I for one would not want some creep looking at my dd's in a sexual way and it is my responsibility as a parent to try to prevent that from happening, ie. not having her dance like a hoochie in a bikini on a stage in front of strangers.

Ok I am going to play devils advocate...I think these girls have AMAZING talent!! Everyone is objecting to this but what about DanceSport (Ballroom & Latin)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EKGxZD-jtI

These "kids" are 13-15 yrs old is what they are doing with their bodies appropiate? I competed nationally with ballroom starting at 15 and have seen "kids" around 4 yrs old moving their bodies in ways that left me awestruck. To them its dancing, its having fun moving to the music, and like somebody else said if a parent is uncomforterable they need to speak up cause a lot of the teachers are "kids" themselves.

Because he is having fun? New concept - kids dance around and have fun. :dance3:
Apparently, we're learning all sorts of new concepts today. Who knew.
Prostitot costumes
Good description.
Naked? :lmao:

I would love it if he did it with clothes on. Sadly, he lacks that sort of confidence.
How about a speedo can can on a stage, in a line of boys, in front of a big audience, and then posting it on youtube? Sadly, I think you'd be fine with that...innocent kids just having fun and all.

And if an adult man did a naked can can for his wife, I'm not so sure I'd see that as sexual either. More stupid, like a kid. Or maybe I'm missing something. I think I need to talk to my DH...26 years of marriage, and not one naked can can dance.

Give it a try - you both might discover something about yourselves. But be careful - you might have a little fun along the way. :thumbsup2

The parents of these girls have lost their collective minds. :headache:

DD was in a competitive dance group for a few years and that studio's training was rigorous. By the time they reached age 7, the girls could have been doing those dances. COULD have, not SHOULD have. If I laid eyes on that costume and those dance moves, the teacher would have gotten an "Oh, hell no!" so fast her head would have spun. No way would I sign my child up for Pole Dancing 101 or Intermediate Skank Bump and Grind.

And what loon posted that video? I promise you, it has gone viral among the pervy set worldwide. These are probably the same parents who buy thong underwear and underwire padded bras for their kindergarten DDs and think it's cute. As for "seeing" or "reading" anything into the dance......Only a blind person would fail to see the inappropriateness of having little girls do a dance in public that is just 1/4 yard of fabric away from being a lap dance. :rolleyes1

Speedo? :lmao:

I would be more than fine with it. :thumbsup2

First, he is developmentally challenged - so be careful with those judgement pants. There is already way too much of that in this thread.

Second, he will not take off his clothes in front of me at all. He is just closer to his mother. He dances for me, but not naked.

Well, that changes things a bit for me...although if he were mine, I'd still not encourage naked dancing every morning.

I just showed it to my husband and he thought they were good. He commented that the dance moves weren't particularly sexualized, just high energy. He did think the outfits were a little inappropriate, but it really did not bother him at all.

ETA: I showed him because someone asked how fathers would feel about this.

I guess DH and I are both bizarre.

I also didn't think the moves were particularly inappropriate. My DD does body rolls and the like in her Jazz routine. Of course, her costume is simply butt-ugly instead of revealing.

It's ridiculous to reprimand Buckalew by throwing it out there after the fact that your son is developmentally challenged.

Whatever that means...don't know anything about your son...perhaps that does explain why your son would do that; it wouldn't have occurred to my son to do that at 10. Not sure if anything explains why you'd post on the Internet about your child's penchant for dancing naked every morning for his mother tho. :confused3

Geez, I'll pass. I think I can find other ways to "have a little fun" with my DH.
Speedo? :lmao:

Really? You'd allow your 10 year old, developmentally challenged son to put on a speedo with a bunch of other little boys and dance the can can on a stage, in front of a big audience, and have it posted on the Internet? Then I think we can definitely say we're on different wavelengths here...thank goodness. The ick factor here is just soaring.

We are a dancing family - we dance all the time. It is a lot of fun, and great exercise. Yeah, some of our more "conservative" friends think that we are nuts, but we laugh together more than any other family that I know. :thumbsup2

Just watched and WOW can those girls dance!

I do think the outfits were a little risque though.

Butt-ugly isn't good. My DD has a production of "HMS Pinafore" at school this week and those costumes are also butt-ugly.

My 10 year old son does a naked version of the can-can dance almost every morning when he gets out of the shower for my wife

Because he is having fun? New concept - kids dance around and have fun. :dance3:

Although I think that you are a troll trying to get a rise out of others, I will attempt to explain something to you…..

As a mother that also has a 10 year old boy that, like your son, is not neurotypical, I want to gently tell you that it is our responsibility to guide our children towards appropriate behavior.

Saying that your developmentally challenged child dancing the Can-Can every day for his mother whilst naked is a “fun thing” is irresponsible. As a parent, it is our job to point out what is not acceptable for a child his age.

Good luck.

Dancing IS a lot of fun and great exercise. And if you all want to do naked can can dancing together in your house, have at it.
We knew that before you told us. :rotfl2:
Well, I certainly hope so! It certainly defines who I am, doesn't it...I have NO fun...ever...as having fun is defined by naked can can dancing. Yes folks, it's true...my name is Mare and I don't naked can can dance. Whew! Glad I got that out on the DIS after all these years. It's been weighing on me.
