Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

Sexualizing children is wrong. Thinking it's cute to sexualize children is bizarre.

I thought you were against moral relativism??? :confused3

I do not see dance as sexualization. We can agree to disagree about that. But to say that these girls are going to be pregnant at 15 or pole dancers is a disgusting over-reaction, IMO...

ITA. :thumbsup2

If everyone would remove their minds from the gutter and look at it as a DANCE routine that is bascially normal dance steps taught in any jazz and/or hip hop class and take a good look at the talent of the girls that are dancing, maybe the routine could be appreciated.

BTW, at many dance schools the parents do not even see the routine until the competition or recital; so the parents may not have even seen it until this video was made.
Ah! I wondered how long until someone came in and said it was ALL about US having our minds in the gutter, watching innocent dancing by little girls. :thumbsup2 LOL

Well, as long as the parents didn't know, it's OK. ????? It's irresponsible of the parents not to know. They should absolutely know what kind of dance school they're sending their daughters to. I remember going to observe dance classes when my oldest (now almost 22) was little, and picking the one that wasn't teaching little girls to be sexpots. OMG...I'm such a prude! LOL

:rotfl2:

So one must be like you to be normal? Thanks for the advice. :thumbsup2

Well, I think anyone who thinks little girls pulling on GoGo Boots, thrusting hips in a sexual manner, spreading legs and licking fingers for an audience is fine and dandy is NOT normal. At all:thumbsup2

Talk about being uncomfortable watching that  It just makes me wonder what the heck the dance school/teachers/parents were thinking to encourage such overt sexual behavior in young children:confused3

What's next for this dance troupe? Pole dancing as a show of their acrobatic skills:rolleyes1

If that is what you got out of it, that is on you. Me - I didn't see any of that. Sure, it might have happened, but I didn't notice it. I wonder why you did?

Maybe you are the normal one and I am abnormal. Maybe it is normal to look for sexual innuendo in children's dance moves. If so, I am okay with being abnormal. :thumbsup2

I do not see dance as sexualization.
WHO here made any generalization about "DANCE" as sexualization?? Geez, we're not being the Duggars here.
That’s right.

Pull on your GoGo Boots, thrust your hips, spread your legs and lick your fingers for all the men in the audience.

How cute.

:rolleyes1
But...they're just DANCING. Get your mind out of the gutter thinking that little girls thrusting their hips, spreading their legs and licking their fingers for an audience is sexual.

Those girls are amazing dancers and imho the bumping and grinding add nothing to their routine. If anything, it detracts from their obvious talent by cheapening the whole routine.

Just showed my DH and his mouth dropped open, he looked a whole lot like this :scared1:, kept tapping my arm as he watched then said, "I'm just speechless" and walked away shaking his head looking a little ill.

I wonder what other husbands/Dad's think about it?

So the rest of us are perverts and those who enjoyed the "dance" are not :confused3 Interesting.

I didn't say that it was ok because the parents didn't know. Everyone was saying "what are the parents thinking" and I was commenting to that . Its possible they had not SEEN the routine so the wouldn't have been thinking ANYTHING. When dd took hip hop, I watched many classes and saw them learn steps or shorter routines. But the entire routine done at competition and the recital was not seen until they were on stage.

If you choose to see innocent little girls doing a dance as something bad--go for it, deary. I refuse to see something evil everytime a little girl shakes her hips.

There are many cheerleading squads that do similar dances. Its hip hop and it is what it is, like it or not. Don't want your kid to learn it? Don't put them in the class.

There were maybe a couple of things that I may have found questionalbe but other than that very similar to many of the hip hop routines that other dance classes do.

Um, because I am not blind:confused3

More of the most bizarre things I've ever read on the DIS! :rotfl:Yes, hentob...explain yourself. When watching little girls bumping and grinding, why did you actually NOTICE bumping and grinding?? Huh? HUH???

There ya go! Exactly.

Actually, I said judgemental (and maybe a little "catty"). I have never accused any of you fine ladies of being perverts. But I am not sure why you see suggestive behavior where I just see kids having fun.

Well, at least one dad here found it adorable.

Really...have you ever been to a club?

Little girls should not be dropping it like it's hot on stage. Sexy faces, booty-shaking and finger-licking should not be a part of a little girl's dance routine. Not because it means that they will automatically become teenage mothers, but because it's skeevy and perverted. They have no idea that it's gross, which makes it even more gross.

These girls are definitely good dancers. The costumes by themselves are fine. The problem is when you put them together with that song, then it takes on a different meaning. I didn't watch the entire video because I had enough:headache:. IMO, 7 yr. old girls shouldn't be grinding. :headache:

These are the lyrics to the song.

All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies, now put your hands up

Up in the club (club)
We just broke up (Up)
I'm doing my own lil' thing

You decided to dip (dip)
And now you wanna trip (trip)
Cause another brother noticed me

I'm up on him (him)
He up on me (me)
Don't pay him any attention

'Cause I've cried my tears (tears)
For three good years (years)
You can't be mad at me

Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

I got gloss on my lips (lips)
A man on my hips (hips)
Hold me tighter than my Dereon jeans

Actin' up (up)
Drinkin' my cup (cup)
I can care less what you think

I need no permission
Did I mention?
Don't pay him any attention

Cause you had your turn (turn)
And now you're gonna learn (learn)
What it really feels like to miss me

Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Don't treat me to these things of the world
I'm not that kind of girl
Your love is what I prefer, what I deserve
Here's a man that makes me then takes me and delivers me
To a destiny, to infinity and beyond
Pull me into your arms
Say I'm the one you want
If you don't, you'll be alone
And like a ghost I'll be gone

All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies (all the single ladies)
All the single ladies, now put your hands up

Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Wha-oh-oh
Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Wha-oh-oh
Cause if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Wha-oh-oh

My 10 year old son does a naked version of the can-can dance almost every morning when he gets out of the shower for my wife. He does this with a towel wrapped on top of his head. My wife laughs with him every morning when he does it (he will not do it in front of me :snooty:). At 10, he is neither modest nor does he understand the sexual implications of his dance. He has been doing this for a little over a year, off and on.

I guess that we are perverts for allowing this to happen. I mean, if I did it in front of my wife, it would have a very different meaning, so it must be just as sexually explicit when my son does it (did I mention that he is naked when he does the dance?).

Oh yeah, and my son must be destined to become a pole dancer or to knock up some chick (probably one of these little girls) by age 15. :thumbsup2

:sad2:

And what I'm saying, deary, is that it's the parents' responsibility to know what kind of place they're sending their children to. I'm betting the dance studio didn't suddenly pull that style of dancing out of their ptooties, unbeknownst to the girls' parents, nor did the parents suddenly see those outfits when they were on the stage. And if they're seeing dance steps and shorter routines, as you said you have, then it hardly matters if it's just a long routine of the same type. :confused3

I will choose to see innocent little girls who are doing a dance as innocent IF the dancing is innocent. If they're bumping and grinding like little tarts, then that's what I see. Strange concept, I know.

And no, I wouldn't send my child to a class like that. Well then, I certainly shouldn't DISCUSS it on a DISCUSSION board. Another strange concept I guess.

I'm sure my husband would love for me to dance like that too.

Is anyone reminded of the movie Little Miss Sunshine?Denise in MI

That moive was exactly what I thought of when I saw the video!:lmao:

I thought the girls were extremely talented dancers, for me it was the costumes that put it over the edge.

The lyrics of the song dont seem to be a big deal either.

As a mother of boys, I have to say: Ewwwwww. I cannot believe that you posted that.
