Hi guys. I just started my weight loss journey but I have been having some symptoms that also make me question if I am diabetic or maybe even pre-diabetic. I was hoping someone here might be able to help me figure it out. Especially since there are so many different ranges for what is a healthy blood sugar level and so forth.

My fasting blood sugar levels have been around 130 in the mornings. (I have been using my home blood suagr level test kit that I had from when I was pregnant) But aside from the levels I have been having tingling in the tips of my toes and tops of my hands. Sometimes downright pain in my arm itself.

A little bit of history - I was always skinny as a kid - teen but when I got pregnant the first time I had a undiagnosed ( they found out after I delivered ) gestational diabetes . I dont know how they missed it I had gained a 100 pounds during that pregnany and developed toxemia as well! My poor babys blood sugar levels were really low.

The second and third pregnancy I was needing to give myself insulin shots 2 to 3 times a day. 2 babies were almost 10 pounds and the last was only 6 pounds but only because he was born early.

Inbetween my sugar levels had returned to normal.

Fast foward to now I still have the weight left over to lose ( I would like to lose 70 to 80) . But with the tingling I have been experiencing I decided to pull out my glucose meter and just see where I was at.

From what I read I am in diabetic range ( at 130) but just starting.. is that correct? I also do not have medical coverage for myself only my kids right now so I cant really go see a doctor for all kinds of tests. I can see my doc but not afford all the other stuff he might order. It really adds up! I need to try my best to figure out what to do on my own.

So guys am I diabetic? What types of foods should I eat and or avoid? I know I need to get my walking program starting and tomorrow morning I am going to get up before the sun is up ( its sooo hot here in Pa right now) and get some exersize.

Any advice is badly needed. Thanks :goodvibes

Hi - I don't know anything about blood sugar, but I would suggest seeing a doctor ASAP just in case. They can rule it out quickly.

Are there any clinics or offices that you know of that are nearby that offer services based on a sliding scale? You really should go in for bloodwork. A fasting sugar of 130 is high and you don't know what your sugars are running later in the day as well. Gestational Diabetics have a 20% risk for developing diabetes later on.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I did make a apointment to see my doc but I am worried he will try to refer me out to a specialist and that I cant afford.

I am going to try to go in and have him do a fasting blood work on me and a cholesterol and whatever else he sees fit.

I have been having pain in my arm in hand for a week now and today its terrible. I am literally in tears. I just feel like crap. Does it sound weird to say that it feels like my arteries hurt? Because the pain is coming from the areas where my vein runs. up into my shoulder from the top of my hand .

I did go out and walk and ate very healthy. It was so hard to watch everyone eat and smell dinner and then eat just fruit. I dont even know if fruit is ok or not but I wanted to eat something healthy so I thought it would be good. Plus I heard cherries have antinflammatory properties. I am going to make green tea next.

I have had issues with high sed rates ( inflammation) with no known cause so I am hoping its just something like that and not something more serious.

Guess I will pop in a good movie or read a book to keep my mind from getting negative.

I will do another fasting in the morning and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I tried to get on a medical program where you pay based on income but the list was full. I have been on a waiting list for 3 years. My husbands job had insurance but it was really expensive for all of us plus the 3 kids so we just have it for the kids. Not much around here to help anyone. Its really terrible. There were a few programs through hospitals but they are all full and or closed as well.
