Am I being Judgemental?

Taking gifts from family (trips, money, ect...) needs to be counted and reported to the caseworker so it is absolutely illegal for her to take these "gifts" she speaks of unless she does report them, which I doubt as the FS, Medical Card, subsidized housing, help with heating bills, ect... would all be affected or done away with.

Very interesting:scratchin

You know, you are right. When my MIL (who was VERY disabled) lived in assisted living, we paid her bills. We actually had to send a letter to Medicaid to report where the money came from. And they go back 60 months. How in the world is this trip getting past Medicaid is what I'm wondering unless they withdrew the cash and had receipts that showed them buying stuff other than the trip costs. They have to be cheating the system somehow.
Medicaid is a bit different in that they go back so far. They also make claims on estates after the recipient dies (I work in a law office, and I've seen many an estate emptied out by Medicaid claims.)

I WILL NOT REMEMBER HOW MUCH FOOD STAMPS I EVERY RECEIVED FROM THE GOV'T BUT I WILL REMEMBER EVERY BEAUTY MOMENT WITH MY KIDS.

This would be a beautiful phrase for a framed needlepoint craft:cloud9:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 To you Aunt. She is doing her best and showing her kids a strong work ethic that will benefit them for years to come.
She truly is amazing. Her sister will say "Don't you ever get sick of bad things happening to you?". She always says "There are people in the world who are a lot worse off than me!". I really don't know how she does it. I can't imagine trying to survive and take care of kid on $8.50/hr. She doesn't get food stamps either. She gets no additional assistance accept Child Health Plus health insurance for her kids. She is one of America's uninsured.

This would be a beautiful phrase for a framed needlepoint craft:cloud9:

Well, it is the lesson she teaches her kids every day, so it would be great to pass on to them. She shouldn't change one word...not even the spelling! :lmao:

Why would they do that? My MIL just passed, but she did not qualify for over a year because at the moment she was not able to care for herself anymore, she received disability and rather than spending all the money at once, we determined the ethical thing to do was pay her daily bills with the $$ she got in back pay. So, nursing home (which is expensive, I must say) was paid out of her account, but emptying her of money to the point that we were about to go re-qualify her for Medicaid. In fact, there is no estate to probate! She had nothing.

ETA: She is one person who deserved the assistance! She worked as a waitress for 23 years and due to a family genetic trait began having strokes, which caused dementia. She got Medicaid because she was not employable! She went to therapies trying to get to the point, but could not. So end the end, she just kept having strokes until one night her dementia caused her to forget how to breathe anymore. :(

I've been wondering the same thing. Apparently she may be working with some of the teachers I deal with on a daily basis--no knowledge of grammar and I'm the "bad guy" because I reccommend educational assistance to them by their building principals.

First of all I am going to take a deep breath and go back some and then you may see (The ones with their nose in the air probably still won't). I was in college for 4 years (1 year in accounting and 3 towards my degree in business management). I met men in my life that turned out to not be where I was as far as maturity and before actually completely hitching my wagon to then, I decieded to cut my loses and do my best on my own without a man draggin me down. I got on housing and assistance to get on my feet. Once I did, I wasn't receiving anything and was doing okay. I worked management for years and was paying all my bills and loving it. This is when I became addicted to WDW. I switched jobs (from one management to another) and withn a few months they unexpectedly went out of business. I was with my youngest child's father and he had a good job working for the state. So right after my job went out of business, I found out I was pregnant with my last DD. I received payments and bonuses from my job after they closed and then since I was so far along, I did get unemployement and assistance until after I had my baby. When she was a couple of months, I went back to college and started volunteering at the daycare where my children went. It WAS AT THAT POINT THAT I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS JOB. My mother was a teacher with a bachelors degree at this very job (where she aslo passed away at, right in front of this job of a heart attack). I started working part-time and then full-time. I HOWEVER DO NOT MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS I USED TO BUT I LOVE MY JOB!!!!!! My family understands why I work here and why I stay. I do not want to be on assistance BY ANY MEANS!!!! But I really needed the assistance for the childcare for my youngest child (who is now almost done being she will be in 1st grade and going all day). It is a burden going from making nearly $20 an hour to just fighting to get the $9 an hour I just got. But I am grateful I have my family and do not want to make them total responsible for my bills but they know why I work where I work, so they approve of it. They are the 2 that mostly fund my yearly trip. My mother was on the system and got off when she got through college and was making it and that is what I also intend to do I hope. My family due to heart issues and stuff would rather me work where I want happily then be somewhere stressful and leave 3 orphans and I agree. I will be well off when they are in there resting place (which they keep reminding me and drives me crazy), so I don't need to get a better job and/or a morgage that I can not pay now. I am going to a 2 year college soon that will gie me my masters in 4 years (credits from before and work experience credits and I am working on something called a CDA with is a chilcaes version of a associates degree).I don't want to argue with you guys, I have grown to love this site and the people. We are grown and have disagreement. I dare not have anyone poy me in the category as my sister who beats the system andshe and her man sit home with there 6 kids and now 1 grandkid, collect welfare and social security. I am not on the system to be there I am there for the help but I do like my only addiction which is WDW.

WHATEVER YOU HAVE YOUR OPINION HONEY SO PEOPLE ARE JUST BITTER. i TEACH MY KIDS TO STRIVE FOR THE BEST!!! PERIOD BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THEM WHERE I AM MYSELF BUT WHERE I AM, I AM MAKING IT AND DOING QUITE WELL. AS FOR MY "STAYING PAID UP AS POSSIBLE GOES", I SLACK WHEN I WANT BUT I SET GOALS BY WHEN I NEED IT PAID. (EX. I NEED MY ELECTRIC BILL PAID DOWN AND SOME IN CREDIT BEFORE I LEAVE FOR WDW. THERE IS NO LEAVING BILLS HANGING ALL AROUND WHILE I JUMPING AROUND IN FLORIDA. MY KIDS HAVE COLLEGE MONEY PUT AWAY BY MY FAMILY MEMBERS (AGAIN THEY DON'T HAVE KIDS) AND I INHERIT EVERYTHING FROM EVERYONE SO I TEACH BECAUSE I LOVE IT NOT BECAUSE I NEED THE BIGGEST HOUSE OR THE BEST CAR,ETC. LIKE MOST HIGH HEAD PEOPLE DO. TO BUSY TRYING TO OUT DO THERE NEIGHBORS INSTEAD OF ENJOING LIFE. I WILL NOT REMEMBER HOW MUCH FOOD STAMPS I EVERY RECEIVED FROM THE GOV'T BUT I WILL REMEMBER EVERY BEAUTY MOMENT WITH MY KIDS. THAT IS MY LAST COMMENT FOR THIS THREAD BECAUSE I HAVE CHILDREN TO TEACH.

Did you really just say that you teach and go to Disney to keep entertained while waiting around for your family to die so you can get the inheritance?

They actually went to a church in town, (they do not attend any church) and asked for assistance to pay the heat bill. They gave them $500.00 to help. Yet not 2 weeks later, they did a weekend away because of all the stress...WTH ?? You can't pay your bill, but your spending 2 nights in a hotel, eatting out every meal, and enjoying yourself? Makes us sick.

I would encourage you to PLEASE call the pastor who handles benevolence at that church and tell him or her that money given to these folks will not be handled wisely. There are hard-working, truly POOR people who give sacrificially to the church because they believe it's the right thing to do, and it can be hard for the church to determine who really needs that help and who doesn't.

This makes me want to toss my non-government-funded cookies.

Teaching your kids to strive for the best? You might be telling them this, but--by example--you're teaching them to let others provide the best for them. Actions speak louder than words, Honey.

I read these "It's-not-my-fault-I'm-broke-so-I'm-entitled-to-government-assistance-and-annual-Disney-trips" threads that seem to occur daily on the DIS, and usually I just roll my eyes ... alot. But your unapologetic (if not boastful) posts are more than I can handle.

It must be nice to be able to slack off when you want to. Some of us can't because we have this crazy desire to be responsible adults. Of course you're "doing quite well." Who wouldn't be with others buying their groceries, subsidizing their rent, paying their bills and funding their children's educations?! Don't act as if you're pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. There are plenty of hands helping you up.

I WILL NOT REMEMBER HOW MUCH FOOD STAMPS I EVERY RECEIVED FROM THE GOV'T

Well, at least you're grateful.

I haven't read all the responses, so forgive me if you've already answered this: What kind of teacher are you? Please don't say economics ... or ethics ... or English, for that matter.

You can do whatever job you want but if it will not pay the bills that would be your problem based on your choice.

Sigh ... Let me just say ... been there, done that.

I'm a single mom to a wonderful three year old. I work as close to 40 hours a week as possible ... I do qualify for the EIC (last year I made just over $19,000) and my daughter finally was able to get on state subsidized insurance. However, I get nothing else. I don't want anything else, but I have a coworker who tells me all the time I don't know how to "cheat the system."

She's right. I don't. I work incredibly hard, I don't mind working 6 days a week if I can. In fact, for over a year I worked 7 days a week. I was still qualifying for an EIC that year, though this year I did recieve a larger one. Starting next fall, I will be substitute teaching two days a week ... which doesn't pay much ... but it will cover daycare. FINALLY ... I won't have to worry about daycare. Like I said, I don't mind working 7 days a week, though I don't think it's something I can do forever. That is with working my regular job as well.

I'll also be starting school in the fall ... and yes, I will get some government help with that. They have programs in place for people like me ... and no, I don't mind using them. In fact, I would much rather see someone like me (who honestly can say she works her bumm off and isn't late on her bills) rather than on my coworker or some of the people I have read about in this thread.

I filed last summer for food stamps, when money was incredbily tight on my end. I made just over $200/month to much to qualify. My case worker actually said "Well, if you had another kid ..." Seriously?!!? :scared1: I said "I surely hope you don't honestly mean that." The coworker I have spoken about gets $480/month in food stamps for her and her two children ... I spend *in a bad month* $200 in groceries. Do you all see the problem in this?!

Honestly, I would much rather see tax payers money going after dead beat dads. My daughters father bailed when she was five months old (and to the poster who said she has a good husband, I thought he was the "one") He currently owes $8580 in child support (not that I'm counting!) but they can't find him. HAHA! It's supposed to be $220 a month ... which wow, would be such a help. I figure, if I ever get the money, it'll be like a bonus.

Needless to say ... I understand how people can be angry when they see people cheating the system ... but know there are people out there who do honestly work for it. Oh, and to clarify ... we do go to Disney. We live 45 minutes away ... but we're taking this year off to get out of debt. My last three trips were paid for by my parents ... and now that we have to pay for Julie, they don't want to pay as often. And that's ok. In Florida, there are lots of other things to do ... and when you work 7 days a week, I do think you end up deserving a vacation. Of course, it depends on when you can actually take the days off from work to do it.

Regina, good for you! Esp. for telling that social worker off. I hope things get better for you!

While your post was moving, you have absolutely, positively no business going to WDW on a yearly basis making $9:guilty: NINE DOLLARS and hour and you have THREE children! And you go to WDW EVERY YEAR:scared1: Me thinks you are a thief. When you collect from the government and still have money to go to WDW EVERY year you steal from me. You steal from other tax payers. I am sooooooooo tired of this crap:headache:

You are on welfare. Can you understand why it is upsetting to people that you are "addicted" to Walt Disney World vacations? We pay your way, whether your relatives give you money or not. We still give you money out of our pay checks, b/c you abuse the system. You accept welfare, plus you get money to vacation via your relatives. You are scamming the system. Do you realize this?

I wish you the best. You seem nice enough, but you are really in no position to vacation in the manner that you do.

Sorry, but what exactly do you teach? TO BUSY TRYING TO OUT DO THERE NEIGHBORS INSTEAD OF ENJOING LIFE.
It is Too and their--I won't touch the spelling errors as they are most likely from haste, but ...

I would love to spend all of my time volunteering at the local animal shelter. I really, really love animals.;) My family would like me to be happy too. Unfortunately, the utility company, the water company, the grocery store, and the mortgage company don't care if I'm happy. They are only interested in their own happiness!:headache: So, I work in a career that wasn't what I wanted, doing a job I never planned on doing. Why? Because they pay me and offer health benefits. But my children have grown up knowing that you should work for what you want, and take pride in being a productive member of society. I would take any job, and sacrifice my own happiness many times over to instill values, ethics, and character in my children.

Again, she is not a teacher. She is misleading readers when she says this. She went to college (for four years "1 year in accounting and 3 towards my degree in business management") but she never graduated.

That is no biggie. But, it is the lying. The manipulating. The "Teach because I love my job--That is until the old people die and I get all of their money" attitude that makes me cringe when I read this:headache:

We won't change her. We won't change any of the :lovestruc I Heart Welfare:lovestruc people. There are people that have tough times and Pride (like Regina) and then there are the others:rolleyes1
