Alone in Disneyland

And those people at breakfast weren't looking and smiling at you because they felt sorry for you. I'm sure they were saying to each other, "Is that Teresa from The Dis? You go say 'Hi' first." "No, you go!" "Maybe she'll come over and sit with us!" And of course, "I can't wait until I tell everyone I had breakfast right next to someone "famous"!" :)

Or they were thinking, "Look at her! She gets to enjoy a nice quiet meal without children. I'm a little jealous" ;)

I've had some wonderful and memorable experiences at Disneyland when I've been by myself.

Once I was at Cafe Orleans, at an outside table having an enjoyable lunch and watching the people going by. A waiter came by with a huge plate of 5 cute Mickey shaped bengiets. I must have gaped at the sheer volume of that dessert. I inadvertantly caught the eye of a man at the next table and we both nodded our heads in unison and said, "That looks good." Then I amended that by admitting that while I really wanted to try those delicious Mickey Head begniets, the plate held far more than I could ever eat, and I wished they came with just one. He smiled in recognition and said that would even be a bit much for him and his family, too bad they didn't come in smaller portions.
Well, at the end of his meal, this man ordered a plate of the begniets. I wasn't paying much attention to him and his family (a wife and a small boy), so I didn't notice that he had the waiter separately plate a begneit, and include one each of the dipping sauces as well, and had it sent to my table. What an amazing surprise! I thanked him profusely, and even offered to split the cost, but he said he was glad to do it.

That was certainly a magical Disney experience. I've often found that the Disney magic is perpetuated by the guests, and is not something intrinsic from Disney itself. I don't go to the Disney Parks expecting anything special, but I am often amazed and very appreciative of the kindness of the people who are also enjoying their time there. (CM's as well as other guests. If people are enjoying themselves, that happiness just seems to spread, doesn't it?)

Enjoy your time at DLR, Theresa. I hope you have a magical visit!

Just opened up my nightly "note to mommy" from Stella. I picture of a little girl sitting and talking to a squirrel. it reads.... I'll stop the world to be with you.........ok, time for a little cry........

T.
Stella made me cry too.
Glad to hear you are having a good time.

I would like to be anywhere my my self right now, but Disneyland would be icing on the cake!!!!!! I have 8 children under six for sale!!!! You write very well. I look forward to reading your post. Connie

Theresa if you post on the boards where you will be I am POSITIVE some DIS'ers will seek you out and you will not be alone. There are always new people to meet and share some of your day with.

OMGosh!!!

I didn't know you were out in DL on a solo trip...OMGosh. Have fun, don't fell lonely..we're all there with you in spirit....and your pics really make me want to travel to DL sometime. The Haunted Mansion looks so wonderful.

Have a great time, be safe, travel home safe, know that your family is in good hands at home, and just enjoy it Teresa.

Can't wait to hear more.

Rain, rain, rain....... Wednesday started with the rain. I woke early and had breakfast in the room. I headed out with my tiny umbrella to California Adventure and my fast pass to World of Color. My fast pass was for the blue section and Pete had told me to watch from the bridge. My first stop after getting my fast Pass was Soarin. This I think is better than the Orlando version. Just my opinion mind you. I rode 2 times with no wait. The rain was relentless, the crowds were small, my shoes were wet!!! Toy Story was closed till next week. this I didn't know and I was bummed. I decided to go back across the way to Disneyland and the Haunted Mansion and hit a few things I missed yesterday. Pirates out here is great!!! I think longer and better than Orlando. And I didn't know till I walked back to Critter Country that you can't go thru, it is a dead end..... nothing back there but a very wet Piglet. turning around and heading back I was forced to do Haunted Mansion again... LOL. this I never will get tired of! I see something new everytime. I walked thru the castle again and strolled in the rain thru Fantasyland. I took my time going from shop to shop looking for a few trinkets to take home. I decided to take a break and check out Great moments with Mr. Lincoln. Being from Illinois I thought this would be a nice show and a little history too. The lobby area has a collection of Disney facts, art and park info to interest you while you wait. Coming out of the Lincoln show I walked right into a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie!!!! 2 people in line..... I have never stood in line to meet characters before and what made me stop is beyond me. maybe the lack of a line, maybe being by myself, maybe the fact that it was Mickey and Minnie.. I swear he looked right at me and smiled!!!! I got my Iphone camera ready and my turn came and I walked up, stood between the two mice and smiled!!! I thanked them and told them how nice it was to meet them... walking away with a small tear in my eye and a photo I will more than likely never show anyone (I look fairly big between the "mice") I felt like a 5 year old!!

The Rain had stopped by noon and I Happily walked around the park in a fog in my squishy wet shoes, watching people, riding what I wanted to and basically having a ball.

I headed back to my room to dry out and take a hot bath and got a pot of hot chocolate sent up to warm me.

The evening took me back to California Adventure and World of Color. I met a great couple while waiting and we talked about Disney and the differences between Orlando and here. I also found out that they were on the same Med. cruise that Pete, Water and Max took this year. Small world!!

World of Color was amazing!! A wonderful way to end the day. The water, lights and fire all work well with the music and pictures. I would like to have seem more old Disney stuff.

This week is flying by. Tomorrow is picture day for Stella and I am not there to make sure her hair is brushed and her outfit matches. I hear from Hubby that homework has been tough this week and everyone is complaining about what he fixes for dinner. I see on Facebook that Max has been busy driving my poor car all over Orlando and rumor is, he got a new tatoo on his leg. I wonder what my sweet Klaus is doing and If Roxie is getting enough to eat. I now know that I will have to check my bag for the return flight home because of all of the cute little toiletries I have collected here for Stella and her "Spa"

Lord, it is late and tomorrow is another day..... Without rain so the weather man has told me!!!!!

Life is good in southern California....

T.:hippie:

I'm loving the trip report! It is a dream of mine to go to WDW alone and tour at my own pace. I can imagine DL would be just a nice. I've never been to DL, so it is nice to "hear" your experiences.

Lovin your report T....have a great time today !!!

Loving your trip report. :) Look for the Monkey Bride next time you are in the Haunted Mansion. It's one thing we gals on the Disneyland Board look for everytime we go. It's up in the attic, left-hand side, on the ground someplace between/behind other stuff, and you usually have to look back to see it (near/past the organ player).

Have a great time today!

Try and go through TSA even with the small toiletries. I had about six (or more) of the little bottles and didn't even take them out the bag when I went through. Mind you, I went through TSA twice (LAX and SFO) and no one said anything.

Yup. I just brought home about twelve bottles of H20 stuff in my carry-on and nobody at MCO stopped me. My knee brace did set off the security alarm, though. :rotfl:

A solo trip sounds good right about now - hope you don't get too lonely! I was solo for 4 days back in Dec 2008 on a trip to WDW. By the 4th day, I was actually thinking I was not wanting to come back for a long time but then realized it was because I was lonely. When my DD and grandson arrived the next day, I was all better!

Disneyland has changed so much since our only trip there in 1983 and I would love to go back. You seem to be really hitting all the great rides (except the ones that are closed, of course ;)) and HM is so much better in DL than WDW, in my opinion too. Hope the weather improves!!

Glad you liked WOC. I can't wait to see it for the first time very soon!

Hope you get a clear day today. Send the rain up our way- we'd love some rain!!

Awesome trip report! I love reading it! You are getting me even more excited for our ABD trip in April!! Enjoy the rest of your time there and have a safe trip home!! :goodvibes

Hope you are having a blast! Thinking about you today :)

I wouldn't really recommend this. I had a bunch of little H2O bottles when I came back from Orlando, and TSA took all but a couple. I hope someone in TSA enjoyed them (rather than toss them).

This is the exact opposite of my situation! I stay in hotels frequently for work, and my mom loves all the little toiletries. I recently incurred her wrath by trying to donate part of her stash to charity. Apparently, she actually likes hotel shampoos! :rotfl:

Teresa, I love your very vivid descriptions and sensory input that is sprinkled in your prose.

It truly allows me to walk in your squishy shoes.

And by the way, there is nothing wrong with an occasional cry.

I cleans the soul. :thumbsup2
