Alone in Disneyland

I'm so glad you got to go through the Disney Gallery with the artifacts and photos, T. It was one of the highlights of my trip and I could easily spend more time in there. I'm hoping it's still in tact when I return for ABD. :thumsup2

I agree that DLR has a much different charm to it than WDW. I absolutely adore it and can't wait to go back.

Are the castmembers still waving hello when you come in the park? We hadn't been for almost three years (after a year with an annual pass, long story), and I was in tears going down Main Street being waved at. It was a lovely feeling.

I did Magic Kingdom alone once on a business trip. The corporate sponsor had rented the area (Critter Country, wherever Splash is), and the rest of the park was closed. It was so cool being escorted back and forth down closed Main Street, and I knew no one else in my family would be as thrilled. Some things are better to be experienced alone.

Enjoy your trip. Can't wait hearing about your special evening!

Following along on Teresa's trip report. I find when I travel solo, I really like having facebook and twitter and the boards to share my experiences with. It makes me feel like I'm not alone, and have people to share it with.

Thanks for sharing T.

I'm up early, because today is the day I finally get to head over to DL to hang with T and go to the Halloween Party tonight - without my kids!!!!

There are so many special hidden gems in the parks to show her today, and I want to get a piece of that Hainted Mansion Holiday for myself - we had FPs last weekend and didn't get to use them because of pre-schooler meltdowns.

Now, where did that suitcase go...

ok, I'm up..... really..... arriving back to the hotel last night after dinner at Club 33 I sat down to tell you all about my day. 30 minutes later I had it all typed out and was reading it for typos and went back to add something and erased the entire thing. decided to take a bath and get my jammies on before starting it again and that's all I remember till this morning when my alarm went off at 7am. I called to say good morning to my hubby and found out that Stella is home sick today... this is not good... I am too far away....It sounds like what Max and Pete had a few weeks ago. right this minute I want to be home.

But lets talk about my day yesterday, before I start crying about today. ( though really it's too late, I'm already cried out for now)

Yesterday started with work. I had breakfast in the room (granola bar and Dr. Pepper) while I worked and got ready for my late morning meeting I had scheduled. After my meeting I had an early lunch at House Of Blues. The one here is alot smaller than Orlando, but the food was just as good and I had my favorite voodoo shrimp.I headed back to the hotel to change and meet up with my friend Wayne (the Disney expert) for a few hours in the park. This guy is a wealth of info and I learned all sorts of really neat facts. like, did you know that right at the back entrance to the castle there is a little marker on the ground where Walt himself stood and marked the center and where the castle would be? it's true!!! I was standing right there. how cool!!! We also stood next to the wishing well and heard Snow White and her echo singing. We rode Alice in Wonderland, which I loved. ell me why Orlando got cheated? Our Fantasyland seems incomplete. this one here makes more sense. I love it. We walked thru ToonTown and went thru Mickey's house. Roger Rabbit was down and I was ready to ride. Our next stop was the Nemo submarine Voyage. We waited about 30 minutes and the closer we got I could see how we were to board the little yellow sub and I had a moment's thought that I couldn't do it. going down would be easy, but who was going to push me back up when the ride was over? couldn't ask Wayne... could I? oh Wayne.... could you give me alittle push to get me up and out of this thing? no worries.. the ride was fun and I had little trouble hauling my A** out of the little tube along with the other 100 people crammed in there.

My time was short because of my reservation at Club 33 that night. Did I mention I was dining at Club 33? Up until a year ago, I had not even heard of this place. I now know the story and how special it is to go to Club 33. So anyway.. I got to dine at Club 33..... oops.. did I say that again... Club 33....

Wayne and I walked back to the hotel (he is staying here too) and I hurried to get ready for my evening out. I fresh coat of make up and and a change of clothes and I was ready to head out. I decided to try the monorail for a ride back to the park. Holy Crap!!! I do not like this monorail..... Too many turns, it feels like it will tip off the side several times and how close can you get to the trees? And what's up with the seating? It's pretty though....

I arrived at the door to Club 33 to find my evening companions waiting. (Tony and Chrissy Spittell and their son and a friend).

After gaining entry into the inner hall, we were sent up in the tiny lift to the dining area. You totally forget you are smack dab in the middle of Disneyland. very elegant and old world.... the food was amazing, I think I had 6 or 7 courses. I lost count, the company was great as was the conversation. good times at its best. After dinner Chrissy went out on the balcony to wave to the little people below. she tells that they looked up and pointed, I 'm sure wondering who she was and many wondering where she was.

The walk back thru Downtown Disney was great. lots of people out, lots of music. twinkling lights everywhere. shiney, happy people having good times......

Today, Nancy arrives!!! The Halloween Party is tonight!

I need to give Stella call and check on her before I head out for my day.......

tata for now......

The Halloween Party is tonight!

I can not wait to hear about the DL Halloween Party! I'm full of excitement for my first MNNSHP in a few weeks, so hearing your report will just add to the seasonal fun!

Sorry to hear that Stella is under the weather :sad2:

Club 33? On my bucket list for sure! So happy to hear your experience at DL. I haven't been in over 20 years! My kids have never been...can't wait to show them this month!

Have a blast at the Halloween party!

We were very happy to share our Club 33 experience with you. So glad you could join us. We really had a great time. Have fun at the Halloween party tonight. We went on Tues, and are looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it.

So, Kelly tells me you issued a challenge to the DL CMs to outdo the WDW CMs. ;)

She had a great time w/you, Nancy, & Wayne. :)

Teresa,

Thank you for the great reports! I'm getting very, very excited for the ABD trip in April!

I'm really enjoying the trip report.

It's great to see what DL is like solo since I'm hoping to do that in a couple of years.

I hope Stella feels better fast. It's an awful feeling when you have a sick child at home and you can't be there. Husbands try but there's just nothing like having your Mom take care of you when you are sick. (This is according to my 11 year old daughter.).

Great trip report Teresa! :lovestruc:wizard::lovestruc

I LOVE Disneyland! I have many friends who just don't get the history, etc. I love both WDW and DL but you can't really compare the two can you?

Very jealous about the Club 33 dinnner....................

Keep up the great work, I love to read of your adventures! :surfweb:

sorry, I am behind..... Friday dawned sunny and the morning was sort of lazy. Nancy was to arrive for our day in the park ending with the Halloween party. Nancy was almost to the parks when I received a text from her and she had forgotten her park pass.. 2 hours later she picked up Wayne and I in front of the park for a ride over to HoJo to see her room when she checked in. Nice rooms. very close to the parks. we walked back in about 10 minutes. We were all starving so we headed over to Cafe Orleans for lunch. Wayne and I both had the Monte Cristo and Nancy had a great looking Salmon salad. We ended up getting gingerbread Beignets for dessert. You can only get them this time of year and they were amazing (to quote Nancy).
Nancy took me over to the Rivers of America to check out the pirate boat. It was docked and the details up close are something to see. After lunch We rode the Haunted Mansion again.

Nancy and Wayne asked me if I had been to Big Thunder Ranch. Of coarse I said No. looking at the map I thought it was just Big Thunder Railroad and I don't ride that so, I had just dismissed the entire area. BIG mistake on my part!!! What a fun area.... It was like walking into a fall country fair. pumpkin carver, decorations, little goats in Halloween scarves, music, the little cabin all decked out for the holiday... This really ended up being one of my favorites places. It really slowed the pace and took me back to country. Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue is back in this area and looked to be alot of fun. It reminded me of Hoop De Doo back in Orlando. Woody was here and so was Jesse.

After leaving the country we headed over to Fantasyland to check out what I had missed over there. We rode Snow White's Scary adventure, Pinocchio's Daring Journey and Casey Jr. Circus Train ( loved it!!). I really wanted to ride the Storybok Canal boat but the line was insanely long. This is about the time we realized that it was after 4 and we could get our wrist bands for the Halloween Party. I think we did this at the Plaza Pavilion. They has stations set up to scan your ticket, get your goodie bag and wrist band. Later it was fun watching the cast members sweeping out the undesireables without the wristbands, just like Orlando they would set up in several areas, blocking access to those without and forcing them to the front of the park. Back in Frontierland I got my face painted with a tiny little skeleton. It was in a really cool area, Don't remember the name (Nancy, Help me out here). like day of the dead or something. After the park cleared our the trick or treating ramped up and wow!!!!!! In Orlando they have trick or treat stations set up, here and there. And the Alice trail back starting in toontown. In Disneyland We started down be the Rivers of America and the entire length was lined with stations and cast members in matching orange sweatshirts handing out handfuls of the good stuff. When I first looked at the map with the locations for candy and counted 8 I thought, "this will go fast with only 8". But each station had at least 3 locations for candy. Some had raisins or carrots as a choice too. I did end up with 1 bag of carrots... OH crap I forgot to tell you that Kelly joined us when she got out of school. ( Kelly is Mary Jo's daughter) Mary Jo was suppose to join us too but at the last minute she remembered she was scheduled to play Bingo and bailed on me. ( I see how you are Mary Jo........ Teresa in Disneyland..... Bingo..... tough call!!! Just kidding.. You know I love you!!!!!

The fireworks were unbelievable!!!!! Everything is really low over the little castle. Zero flying over the castle had the crowd screaming and cheering. I like Disneyland's Haloween Screams fireworks better than Magic Kingdoms Hallowishes (is that what is is called? it is a distant memory right now). But I love Orlando's parade much better.... you can't beat the grave digger dancing guys in Orlando. At the point when we were waiting for the fireworks in front of the castle ( Wayne took us to his perfect viewing spot) I though my legs were going to give out while we waited. I am ok as long as we keep moving, but standing in one spot for an hour just about did my poor body in.

I really wanted to ride The Storybook canal boats today but they had closed for the night. Saturday would be my last chance for that. Back by Small world they had a meet and greet set up for the villians... and they were all out in their glory.... they even had that creepy guy from Hercules.

One ride I had been avoiding all week was Indiana Jones..... The warning sign just had me worried.. Everyone assured me that it was the same as Dinosaur in Orlando but with Harrison Ford...... OK, I will Swallow my fear for Indy!!!! WOW!!!!! It was well worth it!! I don't miss ride. Our last ride of the night was Peter Pan, the line was down a bit and the ride was fun. Midnight approached and we had never even made it over to Tomorrowland.

I forgot to tell you about my "trick or treat" line I used. The first time I said it was just small talk, but I quickly found out that is was a way to get more candy.... As I walked up to the cast member giving out the candy I would say... I am from Orlando and just went to the Halloween party down there........ Show me that your party is better... I would open up my goodie bag and kind of shake it alittle and 9 time our of 10 this would get me more candy..One guy gave me 5 handfuls.... We were all stuffing candy in our bags and pockets to make room for more in our goodie bags:scared1:

By the park closing I was barely walking. we parted ways with Nancy as she headed back to HoJo and Wayne and I headed back thru Downtown Disney with Kelly.

Disneyland's "Mickey's Halloween Party" beats the Magic Kingdom's " Mickey's not so scary Halloween Party" Hands down!!!

Just my opinion, but the decorations, character interaction, treat stations , The Haunted mansion, and fireworks really made for special don't miss event.
