Just today I booked a couple nights at the Polynesian late in February. It will just be our DS2 (27) and me but I'm so excited. We really need a Polynesian fix.:cloud9:

Yay!! :yay:

There's a nice smoking section there too! That's where all of the good lounge chairs are. The other one is near the pool as well, which kind of surprised me.

I smoke, but I can't stand it when people just smoke wherever they feel like it. :sad1:

My DH smokes too, but he ONLY smokes in the designated smoking areas. We both hate to see people smoking where they shouldn't be!

Thanks for understanding. I have no problems with the smoking sections, we just avoid them if we can. I just hate when people intentionally break the rules, I guess. ;)

I have been reading scary posts of screaming girls at other resorts and was wondering if this was common at the Poly. We stayed at CBR 2 years ago during the same time period and although we saw a number of cheerleading groups they were fairly well behaved. I was just wondering if the Poly is a typical place for the cheer squads to stay. We have nothing against cheer leaders but are really hoping for peace and quiet at the resort.
Thanks
John

The cheerleaders in general are well behaved at the resorts. A friend of mine (CanadianGuy here on the boards) was at Pop a couple of years ago during Pop Warner, and neither of us saw any bad behavoir. There were some cheerleaders practicing formations, but they weren't shouting the cheers at all.

ETA: It's very rare for the Pop Warner kids to stay in deluxe resorts as well.

That is SUCH great news BCV23 :cool1: I know how you love the Poly :lovestruc You must be very excited

Thanks, johnsonet! :cool1: Just can't wait.:woohoo:

subscribing!

Welcome!:grouphug:

Thanks, SeaSpray! It's about time. Our last Polynesian stay was 1/09.:scared1: We have a bunch of DVC points so stay in villas most of the time but miss our old haunts, too. :sad1: I am so pumped.:cool1:
Subscribing :yay:

Listening to Sorceror's Radio right now, and they are playing the EWP music. Getting me so excited for my return to the Poly on Thurs! :)

All Star Cheerleading mom here.. for the most part the groups are well behaved.. I travel the country with my 16 year old, was in Charlotte NC last week, (my quick disney vacation with mom at the Poly this past weekend.. :cool1:) and heading to Atlanta on Friday for another cheer comp.

Cheerleaders do NOT stay at the Poly, it's too expensive. The WORST comp of the all for unruly cheerleaders is the Cheerleading Worlds in April. At that time the All star resorts are overrun with high school/freshmen in college aged cheerleaders. Many traveling with just their team. Throw into that very excited cheerleaders from over 60 countries and it's total chaos! No one gets a good night sleep that weekend. There is some trickle over to the Caribbean Beach resort but that's about it. You will be fine at the Poly, no worries. Pray for me though.. I'll be at the All Stars.. :sad2:

of course I'm digging out here at work, but wanted to post just a few items that may be of interest to everyone planning their trips:

1. We did find tourguide Mike's "Crowd Level" planning documents to be very accurate and helpful

2. We stayed in Tahiti Room 1027- first floor MK view. It was AWESOME. Basically, we opened up our patio door, and a few steps away was the beach and a bench swing. We watched Wishes almost every night from the beach or our patio. Great with little kids (ours are 6 and 3).

3. We forked over the cash for the Illuminations boat cruise. it was really cold and because the crowd levels are so low this time of year, I can't say I would recommend this for the money. I would suggest to do a share however- the pontoon boats can hold a lot of people and probably more fun for a group.

4. One of the things the kids loved were the Campfires, smores and outdoor movies. After Hoop de Doo, we took the bus to the outpost and did this. But they are doing it now between the Poly and GF on the beach.

5. Dinner Shows- well, I have to say, this was likely the last year for the Spirit of Aloha. After everyone's comments about how loosely this show is put together (and after me defending it), I have to say- unless maybe it's your first time- I might skip it. Hoop de doo musical review would probably be more fun for older kids. Lot's of adult humor.

6. We were on the Dlx dining plan. The best restaurant by far was the Yachtsman Steakhouse (at the yacht club)- but only if you're on the dining plan. A bit pricey. the puzzle piece white chocolate dessert that you first put together and then paint- the kids LOVED this.

7. As usual we found the restaurants in the Parks to be subpar. Tony's Town square was awful (don't get the mushroom ravioli). However, the restaurant at Epcot with the aquarium had the BEST chocolate lava cake dessert.

Feel free to ask any questions. This was just a quick note.

Have fun everyone.

Amy

I LOVE Yachtsman. That, Artist Pointe, and Citricos are probably my top 3 signature dining favorites.

I never go for Italian in the parks. My grandmother was raised in Italy and taught me how to make the stuff the right way, so I don't go out for it :rotfl:

Disney does well with it's more unique menues. Beirgarten, Marrakesh, Tusker House, and Tokyo Dining are some of my favorites in the parks. I tend to avoid the "standard fare" restaurants.

We love the Polynesian :thumbsup2 We were in room 1602 in Samoa longhouse. We had a patio outside that was just steps from the pool. Our room was clean and comfy. Mousekeeping was great!

We ate at Ohana's for dinner, LTT for a late lunch and Kona on our last night for dinner. The going theme was slow service. Very subpar for TS :confused3
At Ohana's we were seated and sat for 15 minutes before any of our cousins came by to ask about drinks. So finally we get drinks and waited another 20 minutes for salad. Finally another cousin must have taken mercy on us and it wasnt long before our sides came out and then meats brought around but we were in there for 2 1/2 hours and I know we werent eating that long :rotfl:
At LTT in MK our server sat us and took our drink orders then brough out bread, then a few minutes later salad but still no drinks so we sat there another 10 minutes with food in front of us and no drinks so we flagged down another server for assistance. We waited too long for drinks, IMHO and Kona was just a joke. Im not sure our server was actually from this planet :scared1: We sat for 20 minutes here and considered just getting up and leaving and I think we should have but our eating choices were slim. DH didnt like Capt Cooks and I was so tired my dogs were barking and I didnt feel like going to MK or Epcot to get food. So we endured. Finally drinks orders were made, bread was served and our orders given. 45 minutes later no food, bread gone, drinks dry and no server in sight. Crazy! :headache:

We had the best burger ever on property at Pecos Bills. The one we had at Capt Cooks and Electric Umbrella did not even come close to the yummy goodness of Pecos burgers. That place is going on to our must eat places for CS.

Because we didnt have the kids this trip we did a lot more shop browsing, walking aimlessly about exploring and we even took one afternoon and boat hopped from MK to FW to CR. That was great and our captain had a ton of trivia he threw at us popcorn::

Things we learned on this trip:
1.) We like WDW better with our kids in tow. Its lonely when you see other families and you start missing yours!
2.) Nice TS does not guarantee nice service :rolleyes1
3.) The pathway to TTC from Poly is just a short jaunt and much nicer than cramming onto the monorail!
4.) The Poly is an awesome friendly resort :woohoo:
5.) Bring your allergy meds  <-----or you will look like this on day 2!
6.) EMH morning at DHS is a waste of our precious sleep! Only 3 rides were running and no where was open for so much as a water. It was nearly 11 before we could get a drink so we grabbed a thirst quencher and jumped a bus back to Poly for lunch :cheer2: Did I mention DH wasnt overly fond of Capt Cooks? He is such a picky eater LOL

Finally, we were already planning our next trip at Poly with the kids! :grouphug: We will be doing the Luau (sp), breakfast at Ohana's, Trying out Hoop de doo at FW and a burger at Pecos Bills! We are going to take mornings off a few days at do the Sea Raycers, pool time and make sand castles on the beach!

WE LOVE THE POLYNESIAN!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the HDDR!

As for burgers, the burger on the lunch menu at LTT is VERY good as well. T-Rex also has a very good (and very HUGE) burgerasauras on thier menu :thumbsup2

What can I say, I like burgers :rotfl:

Just wanted to share a pic. We are currently at the Poly and it was pouring today. On our way back to the Hawaii longhouse, we passed the pool. There were 3 lifeguards on duty, no one in the pool, except these little guys. I thought it was cute.

It rained a bit on Saturday and we saw numerous ducks paddling about and again on Sunday it was a bit chily and the ducks were the only thing in the water :rotfl: NO kids dared brave the frostbite!

Sorry you had a bad experience at both Kona and 'Ohana Iott Family. We were there in October and had great service at both restaurants. In fact, we ate a breakfast and dinner at 'Ohana and both times had two cousins serving our table. The restaurants seemed full at the time too, so I guess it's just the luck of the draw as to who is on. :confused3

Thanks for the tip on EMH at HS, although not enough tends to interest me there to make the effort (except for TSM). I'll know now that I shouldn't change my position on that. :rotfl:

Sleep in that extra hour or so, there will still be FP's for TSM if you make actual park opening! DHS is not my fav of the 4 parks but DH and the kids rank it their #1 after MK. We have always had great service at Ohana's, its been awhile since we did Kona and will do it again but this trip just seemed to be our off trip for TS service. Now last year in Feb when we came down it was the buses. We just couldnt seem to time it right! We would wait 20-45 minutes for a bus and see two and three of the same destination buses before ours arrived :lmao: Our trip wasnt ruined by any means, we had a great time and chatted with some great CM's and guests in the parks or in route to a park. We just think its funny how each trip can be marked by a certain repeating incident that we just couldnt seem to get away from! :lovestruc

Woo hoo! We decided to go with lagoon view club level for our trip in July!! :woohoo::yay::banana::dance3::cheer2::woohoo::yay::banana: We started out thinking we'd book a garden view room, then decided on garden view club level, and finally today decided to go with LVCL! :cool2::cool2::cool2:

Welcome back, Iott Family! I'm glad to hear that you had a great time at the Polynesian! :sunny: Sorry to hear that 'Ohana and Kona Cafe weren't up to par; they're 2 of our favorite restaurants and we'll be dining there in July.

Iott family glad you had a great time! I must agree on pecos bill burgers!! They are amazing and the fixins bar is awesome! Anything you can think of and it's there!

Just to let everyone know tikimans website was mentioned in the new unofficial guide 2010 page 149 you go Steve!

Great news, Seaspray! I think once you see the lagoon view from your room (or in my case across the hall wishing that was my room!), it is hard to go back to garden view! Enjoy your planning, July will be here before you know it!

Also, cool news about tikiman's site being listed in the UG's 2010! I'm not surprised, it is such an amazing tribute to the Poly! :cheer2:

P.S. Look at my ticker...19 more days!

Thanks for the reply and good luck to you indeed! Ha! I am going to be there with my wife and two highschool aged boys and i am sure they are not going to be bummed to see WDW filled with cheerleaders from all over the world. I just like my peace and quiet when it is time to sleep.
