I've been enjoying this thread for the past few weeks as we just booked our first Poly stay - to celebrate DD's 16th birthday in December. :) We're heading to Disney in a few weeks but will be at the Dolphin for ESPN the Weekend but we plan to visit the Poly on one of our days as we do on most Disney trips. We can't wait to actually stay there.

I read a few posts back about the torch-lighting ceremony. I adore the torches on the walkways but didn't think they actually did the lighting ceremony anymore. Can one of you experts confirm. :confused3

They were doing it in October when we we there, around 6:00 pm in front of the GCH.

We'll be there in December too! Can't wait for a little Poly/Disney Christmas magic!

Yes they still do the ceremony-I was surprised that they even still did it at 6pm in the winter. Starts by the front doors of GCH & brings you outside to the entrance-I'm not sure if they do this during bad weather though...maybe someone can confirm that.

Maybe I am crazy!! But Is anyone else besides me and my family that is annoyed by people coming to the poly to use the pool or to watch wishes when they are not staying in the resort?

Last time we went September the pool was innundated with a group of people carrying coolers of beer and sandwiches! Taking up three tables!

And another night as we watched wishes, we saw a kid pull his pants down and pee in the bushes!

Should I feel like I am crazy or stuck up!

We pay a lot to have the priviledge of the poly!

Good Morning :flower3:

It is FREEZING here in Chicago! Breezy and I are bundled together on the couch looking at Poly pics. Happy Sunday :flower1:

This bothered me very much!!! Glad I'm not the only one.

Regarding the pool I agree & felt the same way when we were at the BC. Sometimes the CM's gave us bracelets & sometimes they did not. No one should use a resort pool if they are not staying at that resort. Imagine you lived near a Best Western, would you just pop over & use their pool because it was better than the pool in your yard? IMHO & YMMV.

It costs a lot for the privledge of using the POLY pool and I would not our hard earned vacation to be blemished because of others breaking the rules to be at a resort they just dropped into! So no I do not think it is being snobby. The Poly is a dream for me and I really would not want the pool to be swarmed or bad behavior of rule breaker to interlope on my dream vacation.

Sorry, folks, but I have often dined at 'Ohana and then gone out to the beach or dock to watch EWP and Wishes during trips when I wasn't staying at the Poly. My understanding is that this is perfectly acceptable and allowed by the CMs with whom I have spoken. In fact, many a server and sales manager has encouraged my family to do this. Of course, we didn't pee in the shrubbery.

Pool-hopping is a different story!:headache: But remember, DVC members staying on points are allowed to pool-hop to the volcano. Maybe? (hopefully?) at least SOME of the picnickers are DVC guests?

I would be thrilled if Disney utilitized a bracelet system! We had pool problems when we were there. I don't mind the restaurants and lounges, but the amenities included in your cost should only be for the guests staying there. We have always respected this rule even when staying at a Moderate resort, however, when someone has a car they have more of an ability to pool hop.

I bet local Florida residents utilze the pools - there is no system in place to stop them. Free entertainment for the family!

This kind of stuff gets under my skin too... but I am always stuck thinking... what can you really do about it?

Has anyone ever had this type of situation handled? What were the results?

I don't have a problem with others watching EWP or Wishes from the beach. If someone has come to the resort for a meal or the luau they have the right to wander the grounds and enjoy the ambience. However, I absolutely don't think you should use the pool if you aren't a guest. I don't understand why WDW hasn't done something about the pool hopping. A wrist band system would be easy to implement and would make a huge difference. Just make guests aware that if they are going to use the pool they will need to approach one of the CM's on deck with the keycard to acquire a wristband. I think TPTB choose not to do this because they don't want to impede on people's "magical" experience by having to play pool police. Unfortunately they forget that the pool hoppers are impeding on their paying guests' magical experience.

Here now! I'm sitting in the lobby having some hot cocoa while dd and dh nap on the room. It's cold out there today!

We are in Fiji on the Luau Cove side. DD thankfully went right to sleep last night but the luau noise definitely kept me up last night. I asked for another location when we checked in but was told they had nothing else for us. But, the location of Fiji is great and the room is nice and clean. Much smaller than I expected but nice. I'm still thrilled to be here!

We didn't get leis when we checked in, should I go ask for some?

Thanks for all the planning help, y'all!

You should definitely ask for leis. Glad you're enjoying the Poly. We decided against it this summer but it was tough choice. I'm gonna miss watching Wishes on the beach and taking the monorail/jitney to the MK.

There's usually a pile of leis (that you can help yourself to) in the children's activity area in the lobby (by the tv).

Got our leis! And there's a lady in the kids area handing out cookies! I'm feeling the Aloha spirit now!

I really don't care about the beach, it is the Pool I am more concerned about.
