Aloha! ***Welcome to the NEW Poly FAQ***

from my very first trip to the Poly. Wow! It was absolutely Polytastic! :cool1: DW and I had a fabulous four night stay. We both (especially me) fell in love with this resort. From the very moment we stepped off the DME bus and were greeted with leis and alohas we knew that we were "home". I'll be doing a trip report later, but thought I'd pass along some observations.

Any questions? I'll be glad to answer.

thanks for sharing, and glad you had a great stay! So the coffee pressed pot wasn't all that great huh? I booked a Kona bfast just so I could try the famed coffee...maybe I should just stick with the guava juice!

Yay! Sounds as if you had a magical (and romantic!) time! Good for you! And now you're hooked, aren't you? I think we all know exactly what you mean! Can't wait to go back!!

Hooked big time! Now nothing else will do. :sad2: :goodvibes

Don't get me wrong; the Kona coffee was just fine. It's just not like I'd rave on about how terrific it was. A fine cup of coffee -nothing more; nothing less. I'd recommend keeping the Kona ADR though. Overall, that was a great breakfast. We'll definitely be eating there again next time.

Is the IPO a little slow?

I have done too many changes but all IPO and all on top of it. They all replied (BC YC GF AK) within 24 hours EXCEPT Poly. Sure... when I am finally in my eyes on the home stretch I can't talk to anyone ;)

I had quite a few questions, listed all of my ADRs for them and requests. Should I call to follow up?

I've been poking around on utube and ********** and have found some really pretty videos taken from Tahiti. The horns were so loud that both myself and my dog jumped up a bit from our couch! This wouldn't bother me during the day, but I was curious how long the ferries run after the MK closes, and how early they start running in the am? When I'm there, the MK opens at 9am every day except one EMH and closes at 8PM, except our first night when it closes at 11pm for EMH...I'm crossing my fingers for Tuvalu, but would like to know what to expect if I get Tahiti :goodvibes

I guess it would depend on how light a sleeper you are, if it's my video you are talking aabout (moosetv ustream eoe1) the cam was outside the sliding glass door. It never bothered me I actually enjoyed hearing the sounds of the ferries and steam trains from MK.

MsStinkerBelle - Awesome pics, can't believe you were right by the water. It looks like a secret hideaway with all the plants too :)

Zippa D Doodah - Gosh your review put a smile on my face, it sounds like you had a fantastic and romantic time. Will be looking out for your TR :)

From the very moment we stepped off the DME bus and were greeted with leis and alohas we knew that we were "home". I'll be doing a trip report later, but thought I'd pass along some observations.

...I had requested Fiji 3rd floor and got Raratonga 2nd floor (room 2821 -faces monorail). :confused3 For a moment I started to ask for another room, but figured I'd just go with the flow and see what kind of unexpected treat was in store. As it turns out we were very happy with Raratonga room 2821. The view included about 40 feet of beautiful trees and plants, and a wonderful view of the monorail. We didn't miss having a balcony or patio.

...Weather was outstanding. The cold snap shortly before we arrived was gone, and we experienced daytime temps in the 70's along with comfortable -although seasonably cool -evenings.

...We loved walking round the resort, especially at night while the tiki torches were lit. We strolled over to the Grand Floridian one night using the pathway that runs by teh wedding chapel and spa. Gorgeous and romantic walk!

...Staying at a monorail resort is something I loved so much that I may never go back to mods or values again! We never waited more than five minutes for monorail. It was so nice to be able to hop over to MK any time we wanted. We are fools for the MK and spent time there every single day.

...Our room had two light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom when we checked in. Maintenance came and fixed them right away, soon after we left for a park. Also, mousekeeping was a bit spotty. No shampoo or soap in the room, which we did not notice until we were ready to take a shower late our first night. Again housekeeping sent someone right up with lots of shampoo and soap. The marble countertop on top of the refrigerator cabinet had circles on it where folks had left drinks and had not cleaned up. The mousekeepers never did clean that. I didn't even mention this as I had already had to call twice (lightbulbs and toiletries) the first day and did not wish to be known as a complainer.

...The lobby and grounds were so relaxing. DW and I just sat in the lobby several times. sometimes sharing a bottle of wine and other times just gazing at the lovely waterfall. One afternoon a nice lady came and gave us free cookies! She gave me two because she said "men need them more". :goodvibes

...Now that I have watched Wishes from Poly beach I never ever want to see Wishes from Main Street again. Fantastic view! NO crowds! Just sitting on a swinging bench and hugging my honey.

...The hammocks were a mini-vacation unto themselves. A couple of times DW and I laid in them and took an afternoon respite from the parks. Just absolutely wonderful!

...We didn't eat at Ohana, but very much enjoyed breakfast at Kona. We each had ham and cheese omelets with potatoes and fruit. The fresh-squeezed OJ was delicious. The famed coffee was just OK by me. Better than the usual Nescafe, but nothing to jump up and down about IMO. They gave DW and I a little dessert after breakfast in honor of our anniversary.

...This is undoubtedly the most pampered I have ever felt on vacation. Between having the dining plan for the first time, access to the monorail, the lush Poly theme, the park hoppers, and impeccable CM interaction -this is the way I ALWAYS want to do WDW from now on. As far as I'm concerned I don't need to stay anywhere else but the Poly. If it costs a little more I'll just save up longer. My only little complaint was the housekeeping which I thought was something less than I would expect for a deluxe resort. But that concern was eased after the very first day.

Any questions? I'll be glad to answer.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! We feel the same way about the Kona coffee--not anything we would seek out, but better than Nescrape. For some reason the Kona always tastes as if it has been sitting too long on the burner. . .:confused3. We love a good strong cup of coffee, just not crazy for the Kona.

Nice to read your glowing report!

Oh Zippa...

Thanks for the summary!! We leave to go there in 3 days, and now I am even more excited.

Were you guys able to swim (if you wanted to)?

Heather

Thank you Zippa D Doodah for wonderful report!

I remember when we had a room in Fiji we also had a wonderful view of the monorail. It was surrounded by lovely landscaping, so it defiantly beat my expectations.

What a nice review!

We just switched our Contemporary reservation for Easter to the Polynesian!!!!! My kids are so excited (& me too!) The last time we were at the Poly was 2002 & we are looking forward to the new rooms & pool.

I requested Tokelau since it looks like its in the middle of everything. We plan to use the TCC for travel to Epcot & the boat launch to MK.

Yay!:cool1:

Zippa D Doodah thanks for the review :thumbsup2 I am glad your big surprise and planning had a excellent outcome. :wizard:

Tess, I see you have a ticker now! That is great :cool1:

I have to say that I am an odd Poly lover as I am not fond of Dole Whips, Kona Coffee and the infamous Tonga Toast :scared1: But there is plenty of other things at the Poly that keep me coming back!!

Thanks everybody for the compliments on my Tuvalu pics and my DD.
:goodvibes I'm glad to be able to share them with you guys. It brings back some wonderful memories.

Wow! Those are beautiful pictures! That must have been a magical trip! :wizard:

It was so magical that honestly, it brings me to tears when I remember it. My mom was supposed to go on this trip to the Poly (it was going to be her, me and DD) but she died unexpectedly and never got to go. I'd always wanted to stay a the Poly when I was a kid but my parents couldn't afford it. I was going to take my mom as a way of saying 'Thanks'. We had such a magical time there and I felt like a kid again!

MsStinkerbelle,
We stayed in Tuvalu our 1st 2 trips to the Poly-once on the lagoon side & once garden-your pics are just like ours!!! Beautiful girl too! We will be leaving Monday but are staying CL so we will be in the Hawaii longhouse. :goodvibes

Thanks! Can I hide out in your suitcase? :lmao: I really loved staying in the Hawaii longhouse too. Get ready for that gorgeous castle view when you check in at the concierge desk. :thumbsup2

By this time tomorrow, I'll be on a plane heading to Poly!!!!:cool1:

Have a safe and enjoyable trip! :goodvibes

MsStinkerbelle, that's a great story and illustrates the flip side to my point of view very well. I think it's great that you had your expectations in check and didn't unrealistically build those of the "Terror Squad." :rotfl: What a great aunt and mom you are. I'm so glad your request was fulfilled!:wizard:

I agree with ZuZu03...what a beautiful picture of your DD!

Thanks! Trust me, during that trip I didn't feel like such a great aunt and mom. :lmao: We had fun but man, I was absolutely exhausted! And I saw wayyy too many drinks from the drink menu at Kona and Ohana. The CMs there would see me with all of those kids and immedately park the drink menu in front of me. :rotfl:

After listening to my DD tonight though, I am just so excited. She actually cried tonight because she thinks we're not staying at the Poly and she was telling me how sad she was. (It took everything I had to not break down and tell her). I only have a little over four weeks to go, so hopefully I can keep the secret that long! Just wait until we get to our room and she looks out the window at the castle and the lagoon!

Hang in there! :goodvibes It is going to be such an awesome surprise when you not only get to the Poly, but open up those curtains in your room and BOOM--there's the lagoon and THE CASTLE! I've got the opposite problem--I want to desperately go back to the Poly for Christmas but DD10 is steadfast about the Grand Floridian. She doesn't know I'm secretly plotting to see if we can spend at least two nights at the Poly after our GF stay. ;)

MsStinkerBelle - Awesome pics, can't believe you were right by the water. It looks like a secret hideaway with all the plants too :)

It was absolutely INCREDIBLE! And with us being on the end it was 'roped off' so having it enclosed felt even more intimate. Sitting out on our patio watching the EWP, it felt like we were floating along with it. Wierd, I know. :lmao:

Zippa D Doodah, thanks for the review! :thumbsup2 I agree--after seeing Wishes from the Poly beach, I have no desire to see them from the 'mosh pit' at the MK. I'm a fan of the 100% Kona pressed pot but honestly I don't know if its because the bog standard coffee at WDW is such crap or because it's just that stellar. I will say the 100% Kona Coffee and Kauai coffee from Trader Joes tastes better. :thumbsup2

And mousekeeping at the Poly...well...according to one of our favorite Mousekeepers at the Poly, some folks do their job well, some just do the bare minimum. It definitely doesn't make it right but I have noticed over a week stay how much the standard can vary. Thankfully the worst thing I've come across is a sink with water sprinkles on it and DDs toys not arranged.

I have to say that I am an odd Poly lover as I am not fond of Dole Whips, Kona Coffee and the infamous Tonga Toast :scared1: But there is plenty of other things at the Poly that keep me coming back!!

I love Dole Whips (though the staff at Captain Cooks seems to think I worked at Dairy Queen considering how 'high' I can make my Dole whip), love the Kona Coffee...Tonga Toast well, tried it once, the sugar rush was overwhelming...not anxious to try again.

You forgot that other staple of the Poly experience, the Lapu Lapu. Have one, and you're happy. Have two and you're invisible. :lmao:

Thanks everyone! I cant believe after going to WDW for 30 years, I finally get to stay at the Poly!!!! Thanks to my DBF:hug:

For me the best thing about the Kona coffee is that you get it at the Kona Cafe. :surfweb: :yay:

Oh Zippa...

Thanks for the summary!! We leave to go there in 3 days, and now I am even more excited.

Heather

Heather, I'm excited for you. May your trip be just as wonderful and memorable as mine was. The weather was nice enough that we could have gone swimming any day. DW is pretty cold natured, so I didn't urge her to swim. If our kids had been with us I know that they and I would have been right in the pool. This was my fourth mid-January trip to WDW and it was just about the nicest weather yet.

Thank you Zippa D Doodah for wonderful report!

I remember when we had a room in Fiji we also had a wonderful view of the monorail. It was surrounded by lovely landscaping, so it defiantly beat my expectations.

I'd still like to try Fiji some day. As it was I loved lying on the bed in Raratonga and watching the monorail go by just beyond the lush greenery in the foreground. It was like a ginormous kinetic sculpture.

What a nice review!

Yay!:cool1:

I hope you enjoy the Poly. We sure did.
Tokelua is a god location. We used the boat launch a couple of times and found it to be maybe a tad quicker then the monorail... but it's a fast trip either way. We walked from the TTC to Raratonga a few times and thought it was a very easy and lovely walk. Tokelau is a maybe a minute or two closer to TTC. Don't fret if you don't get Tokelau.

Zippa D Doodah thanks for the review :thumbsup2 I am glad your big surprise and planning had a excellent outcome. :wizard:

Could not have asked for a better outcome. I am a blessed man to be able to so extravagantly treat my wife.

Sounds like us. I knew I wouldn't like Tonga Toast, but I figured DW would be all over it. Instead she ordered an omelet too. :confused3

Zippa D Doodah, thanks for the review! :thumbsup2 I agree--after seeing Wishes from the Poly beach, I have no desire to see them from the 'mosh pit' at the MK. "Mosh pit" is a good description of Wishes on Main Street. :goodvibes
Yep, that standard coffee at WDW is the worst. I got a cup at Main Street Bakery with my breakfast on our last morning and could not even drink it. :sad2: Starbucks at the airport a few hours later never tasted so good.

I love the pictures on here of the rooms with a view that are considered garden view rooms. I would love to stay in a room like this, but have a question. Do you consider any of these convenient with small children? Part of the reason we're staying @ Poly is bc it's a monorail resort, but can we be near the monorail and still have a great view?? Can anyone recommend a room like this?

MsStinkerbelle...SURE! Since we only take carry-ons & flying Southwest-free checked bag!! :rotfl:

I checked us in online last night!! I'm very excited, but trying to manage my expectations at the same time. 9 DAYS!!
