I've been to Disneyworld twice (I know for you veterans that is not much) and both times I was lucky enough to get exactly the room I requested. When we stayed at the ASMo I requested Dalmations b/c my then 5 year old daughter was obsessed with the 101 Dalmations. We got it. Then last year I requested a lake view close to Epcot at the BC and by golly we couldn't have been any closer to Epcot (we had the very last room with a view). It was perfect soooo My husband finally agreed to the Polynesian and last night we carefully studied the map. We paid for GV only so we decided we wanted to "request" a balcony room in Tuvalu, Fiji, or Tahiti. Then.... I found the Tikiman site omg it is awesome! But based on studying all his comments and pictures, and the fact that we only paid for GV, I am now thinking we should request Tokelau or Aotearoa! I'm so confused. Maybe you Poly veterans can help...
We don't want to be right in the middle of all the action by the pool (i.e., Samoa). We don't mind walking at all. We would LOVE the opportunity for one of those "suprise" lagoon views, or a view of the GF even though we paid for garden view. But honestly we wouldn't mind pretty garden views or even a view of the monorail would be fun for the kids. My head is spinning with all the choices. My husband says he wants a balcony most of all. I would rather have more of a view (water, marina, beach, monorail, all of the above) whether or not we got a patio or a balcony. So that's our dilemma. What should we request???????

I totally understand your dilemma, as DH and I have been going through the same thing. If I were you (based on YOUR priorities), I would place my request like this: "We really would love a room with a balcony, preferably in Fiji, Aotearoa, or Rarotonga (monorail side), in that order of preference." Fiji has stunning garden views from both sides. I think that Aotearoa is one of the least-requested buildings, but most of the third floor rooms have beautiful views of the monorail on one side or beach on the other...in fact, you may end up on the lagoon side for a garden price, that would be magical! I personally like the views from 3rd floor rooms better than 1st, so if view is important, I'd go with 3rd.
