...I had requested Fiji 3rd floor and got Raratonga 2nd floor (room 2821 -faces monorail). :confused3 For a moment I started to ask for another room, but figured I'd just go with the flow and see what kind of unexpected treat was in store. As it turns out we were very happy with Raratonga room 2821. The view included about 40 feet of beautiful trees and plants, and a wonderful view of the monorail. We didn't miss having a balcony or patio.

.

Glad to hear this. I have spent hours looking at maps and reading Tikiman's website. Unless we get a pin, I'm going to downgrade us from Club Level which means no Hawaii building. I think I will leave it in the hands of the tiki gods to give us a great room.

Even if we have a lot of walking, at least it will be beautiful and my boys are older. I still remember 2002, taking a 4 yo and a 2 yo and being in the Love Bug section at All-Star Movies. The kids loved it but nothing is worse than having them both fall asleep on the bus and having only a single stroller. That was a very long walk back to Herbie!

Thanks for the great review.

Woo Hoo :cool1: Yesterday I booked the Polynesian for our October trip. We were there last year, and the entire family fell in love with it. My 6 year old insisted we stay at the hotel with the volcano pool again.

I am so excited, I don't know how I'm going to get through the next nine and a half months!

A few questions have been answered about noise from the Luau Cove... what about from the EWP? How close does it come to the Poly, if you are in Tahiti or Hawaii or even Tuvalu can you hear the music with the window/door closed?

When we stayed at the GF the noise from the EWP and the fireworks was SO loud it would wake us up! We were in Boca Chica right on the water and the whole building would shake from the firework booms!

Yes, you can hear the EWP from the room in Hawaii. We love it, though, so I've never tried to sleep through it. It passes right in front of the Poly, just like it does in front of Boca Chica. In fact, sitting on the GF beach last summer, DD and I had no problems hearing it as it passed in front of the Poly.:goodvibes

I love the pictures on here of the rooms with a view that are considered garden view rooms. I would love to stay in a room like this, but have a question. Do you consider any of these convenient with small children? Part of the reason we're staying @ Poly is bc it's a monorail resort, but can we be near the monorail and still have a great view?? Can anyone recommend a room like this?

I'd be interested in this also. We'll be making our first trip to the Poly in April. We've decided to to GV but I'm not sure which building to request. I have a 7yr old, 5 and 1 year olds so we'll have a double stroller. I'd like to be close to the monorail but not look at a parking lot. Any suggestions?

..Our room had two light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom when we checked in. Maintenance came and fixed them right away, soon after we left for a park. Also, mousekeeping was a bit spotty. No shampoo or soap in the room, which we did not notice until we were ready to take a shower late our first night. Again housekeeping sent someone right up with lots of shampoo and soap. The marble countertop on top of the refrigerator cabinet had circles on it where folks had left drinks and had not cleaned up. The mousekeepers never did clean that. I didn't even mention this as I had already had to call twice (lightbulbs and toiletries) the first day and did not wish to be known as a complainer.

Funny we stay in Raratonga 3rd floor last Feb/March we were on monorail side about 4 rooms down from elevator and I had a problem with the bathroom fan wouldn't turn off.Defective motion detector kept me awake 2 nights I was told maintenance had fix it but still had problem had them move us. We ended up with room in front of elevator, no other problems. We always stay at the Poly, also Fireworks are great from 2nd floor of the Great Ceremonial House. Cann't wait til December.

Hi guys:goodvibes We are going the last week in August:dance3:. It will be me- DH- DS10-DD6 & DS3 at the time of the trip. We went at the same exact time last year..stayed at the Poly and it was awesome!! We were in Tahiti on the 3rd floor. It was great being on the beach to watch the fireworks at night... I am sooo excited...trying not to think about it:rolleyes1...but I can't help it!! We requested tokelau (sp?) as a first choice and then Tahiti..(we LOVED :love:Tahiti just wanted to try something new:) We are using our bounce back with free dining from last year...we thought about using it for the GF...buuuuuuuuuut couldn't do it:lmao:

I guess it would depend on how light a sleeper you are, if it's my video you are talking aabout (moosetv ustream eoe1) the cam was outside the sliding glass door. It never bothered me I actually enjoyed hearing the sounds of the ferries and steam trains from MK.

Hi, I don't think it was yours, but I have seen yours somewhere in my travels...I think yours you could actually hear the rope drop ceremony from the MK and yes, the ferry was very loud. I also love the sound of the ferries...when I watched tecdavidt live Christmas week, I had my computer on all day and loved hearing the ferries coming and going. I am a really light sleeper, so they'd probably wake me up, but if the MK closes at eight I would assume they wouldn't be running much past ten o'clock, so that won't be a problem at all. And on the flip side, we are early risers, so unless they're up and running before seven, that wouldn't bother me either. I can't wait to hear the steam trains BTW. There is something about that sound that is just so magical!

I love Dole Whips (though the staff at Captain Cooks seems to think I worked at Dairy Queen considering how 'high' I can make my Dole whip), love the Kona Coffee...Tonga Toast well, tried it once, the sugar rush was overwhelming...not anxious to try again.

You forgot that other staple of the Poly experience, the Lapu Lapu. Have one, and you're happy. Have two and you're invisible. :lmao:

:rotfl2: Oh I think one of those might be in my near future (well not too distant anyway!).

When we stayed at the Poly in 2008 we were in Rapa Nui and we couldn't hear it from there...so I was just wondering ....

I think you can only hear it from the rooms facing the lagoon. We stayed in Hawaii, garden view right on the end of the building next to Tokelau and I never heard the EWP or the ferries. Got woken up the first two nights by the fireworks, but besides that (and noisy children in the hallways) it was fairly quiet.

Yay! I know exactly what you mean - I can't stop talking about it and my DH is giving me "the look" every time I start. DD has more patience, but she's getting ready to graduate and go to prep school for a post-grad year, so she's got a lot on her mind. Thank goodness for you guys here at the Dis! I'd be talking to the animals (they ALWAYS listen)!

Question....we are staying in the Hawaii building and I know that the 2nd floor does not have balconies. How does this exactly look? Can you open the doors? The pictures look like there are doors with a false balcony :confused3. Was wondering if I was really going to miss the balcony if I get stuck on the 2nd floor.

Yes you can open the doors on the second floor, there is a railing on the otherside. We had a second floor room in Tuvalu TP view, and didn't miss the balcony at all. We opened the door so we could get some fresh air, also watched the EWP and the fireworks from the MK. Others say that a balcony or patio are important, but we don't mind not having one.

No problem. I know it bothered you at the GF, so I figured I should be honest even though it probably was not what you wanted to hear. :goodvibes We were in Hawaii facing the lagoon and it was directly in front of us (probably more out in the water than it is when it goes in front of Boca Chica (we saw it from there, too) but still quite close to the beach. The music they play is really, really loud.

We were right across the hall from you -- the one next to the end room -- but facing the lagoon -- and it was LOUD!:rotfl: We love it enough that we don't mind, though.;)

This is great to know -- I've always wondered about this. Just in case we end up on the 2nd floor...;) It doesn't sound bad at all if the door opens up all the way.:)

Last May in Tahiti we had a toilet seat that was very loose. A power strip that was dead and mousekeeping was spotty. Maintainance came later that day but housekeeping required some calls. One day my kids had crackers and we picked up what we could but when we got back it was still there not vaccumed at all . Also our balcony window had hand prints all over it. The prints only happend once but they were not cleaned until I complained. We didnt let it bother us much but if I had paid full price for the MKV I would have been STEAMED! I refused to let anything bother me at 40% off.

We were in Tahiti 3rd floor too and it was AMAZING. Access to the TTC with the three kids made mornings so much easier. Being on the balcony watching the Castle change colors while the kids tried to go to sleep was wonderful too!
