We will be staying at the Poly for the first time on 4/18 to 4/22!!! I was nervous because we stayed at the GF in May and loved it.

Any thoughts about requesting the Somoa Building Volcano Pool side? It seems pretty central between the pools and GCH.:confused3

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

We've been lucky enough to get that side of Samoa quite a few times over the years but never requested it.

There aren't all that many rooms that fit that request. Maybe 30-36? One time when we checked in, the CM was so excited to see we were placed there. He told me it was the most frequently requested assignment.

I know the DIS is full of people like me who try to plan but I would personally never make that request knowing that the odds are against getting it. I would not want to start a magical Polynesian vacation feeling disappointed.:sad1:

Just my own take on it. If you ask to face a pool, that might work. Then your chances are much greater at getting your request. Tokelau, Raratonga and Samoa all fit. All are quite convenient to the GCH as well.

edited to add that little Niue also faces the quiet pool and is very convenient.

I am not POSITIVE, but I believe the cake would come from the GF. Poly doesn't have a bakery to do their own . This is going from what i have read and process of elimination.

Thanks for the info! If I call Polynesian they should be able to help me I'd assume. Does anyone know how much the cakes usually run? Thanks!

That is what I did. I sent myself a box with and autograph book and pen and a Minnie Mouse Journal and Disney pin for her collection on line at the Disney Store and a few other treats I found at Walgreens.

After we checked in we went to explore the resort and I made an excuse to do back to the room and set up a Welcome Package from Mickey and Minnie. I found a nice card at the Hallmark Store and "signed" it from Mickey and Minnie. DD still talks about it.

All the items and shipping via UPS was half the price of what I would have spent using Disney Florist with twice the amount of items :thumbsup2

I hate to say it, but with the Celebration Theme they have going on, the little added Pixie Dust like you received that one time seem to be far and few between :confused3 They now use a fairly standard card signed by Characters and give you a pin. But when you do wear a celebration pin you get a lot of people saying congrats or happy birthday which is nice :)

Love it! I will definitely shop ahead of time at home. Between The Disney Store and Target I'm sure I'll find something. Should be easy enough to surpise a 7 year old.

We were very excited by my mom's birthday surprise. In all our trips to Disney we had never been on someone's birthday so I didn't know if it was the norm or not. Hearing that it is not a regular occurence makes me appreciate the pixie dust even more. Kuddos to the CM's at All Star Movies. :goodvibes

I know I can request a microwave in the room, but how about a toaster? Has anyone ever requested and received one for their room? We are going in 2 weeks with our granddaughter -- getting excited! this thread is great and so informative.

We are staying at the poly for the first time very soon:). What is the best way to get to Cape May Cafe for an early breakfast? Thanks!

Congrats on your first Poly stay!

The *best* way is to take the monorail (or the boat launch) to the MK then take the bus to the Beach Club Resort from the bus depot at the MK. The resort destinations are clearly marked at the depot and there's also an information booth/kiosk available for 'in person' information.

The *fastest* way is to take a taxi from the GCH at the Polynesian. Both will get you there but when my patience is shot (a type-a personality problem I wrestle with daily :lmao:) a taxi works wonders. :cloud9:

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Good question and I'd love to know the answer. I've never requested a toaster however there are toasters in Captain Cooks available for use.

I'm excited for you! The Poly is such a great resort for kids! :goodvibes

I'll tack on to the great advice BCV23 gave.

In August 2007 I took my DD, two nephews and godsister (known on the thread here as the Terror Squad) to WDW and we stayed at the Poly. I *requested* the Samoa longhouse facing the volcano pool but told the kids that we'd be staying at the Poly. All they cared about was being able to stay for once at a Disney resort instead of a timeshare.

When I checked in, the CM checked my ressie, lowered her voice and said my request had been fulfilled! I was stunned because frankly I wasn't expecting to get it. She said only about 9 rooms face dead on to the Volcano pool and they were the *most* requested. I told the kids and when we saw the CM near Captain Cooks she said, "You'd best thank this lady--she really got a treat for you guys!"

I guess that's a long-winded way of saying it's great to put in a request but that's exactly what it is, a *request*. BCV23 has given you great advice and I agree with her.

Plus, you're going to be at the Poly!

Just for reference, here's a shot of the volcano pool from our room in Samoa:

what # do you call? I have changed my resort ressies so many times, I'd like to check myself before I get there!

Probably a silly question, because I know Tuvalu is right on the water, but I was wondering if there are any torches on the patio area on the first floor in front of the water? I just love those torches and would love to see them lit from our room!

No torches directly on the water that I can remember. I do remember seeing them down on the beaches from my room. From this pic I took of DD when she was 6 from our Tuvalu patio room, there are these little lantern 'lights'.

Thanks a bunch! I knew you'd come through for me. I remember seeing this pic of your DD and I thought there was some kind of lantern, but couldn't remember if it was a lantern or a torch. So you can still see torches from your room on the beach? I love that view from your patio! I usually would not want a first floor room, but that area is so pretty and private!

And... knock on wood... we didn't get the exact room we requested... but we got Tahiti, 1st floor "very close to the requested room." FINGERS CROSSED IT IS TRUE!!!

At the Poly in less than 4 days!

I was wondering about that quiet beach that's on the other side of Fiji going towards the GF...can you still see the MK from that beach? Are there hammocks on this beach?

I've been to Disneyworld twice (I know for you veterans that is not much) and both times I was lucky enough to get exactly the room I requested. When we stayed at the ASMo I requested Dalmations b/c my then 5 year old daughter was obsessed with the 101 Dalmations. We got it. Then last year I requested a lake view close to Epcot at the BC and by golly we couldn't have been any closer to Epcot (we had the very last room with a view). It was perfect soooo My husband finally agreed to the Polynesian and last night we carefully studied the map. We paid for GV only so we decided we wanted to "request" a balcony room in Tuvalu, Fiji, or Tahiti. Then.... I found the Tikiman site omg it is awesome! But based on studying all his comments and pictures, and the fact that we only paid for GV, I am now thinking we should request Tokelau or Aotearoa! I'm so confused. Maybe you Poly veterans can help...

We don't want to be right in the middle of all the action by the pool (i.e., Samoa). We don't mind walking at all. We would LOVE the opportunity for one of those "suprise" lagoon views, or a view of the GF even though we paid for garden view. But honestly we wouldn't mind pretty garden views or even a view of the monorail would be fun for the kids. My head is spinning with all the choices. My husband says he wants a balcony most of all. I would rather have more of a view (water, marina, beach, monorail, all of the above:lmao:) whether or not we got a patio or a balcony. So that's our dilemma. What should we request???????:scratchin

I couldn't remember either. :lmao: At first I thought there were torches but then I remembered I wouldn't let DD on the patio alone if there were. So I went back and checked my pictures.

So you can still see torches from your room on the beach? I love that view from your patio! I usually would not want a first floor room, but that area is so pretty and private!

I remember standing close to the ropes you see in the picture and looking out you could see some of the torches on the main beach. Depending on where you are (our room was at the extreme right if you are facing the Tuvalu longhouse)

I'll try to dig up more of the pics from our room in Tuvalu. :goodvibes
