ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Yay a new Polynesian thread! It looks great. We are getting very excited as our trip is getting close. Also I just added another night so now we are staying 8 nights. I did book the Spirit of Aloha for our first night as well.

Also I wanted to know if any of you have done the resort photo session? I would love to book this but they raised the price to $150 and all you get is a 20 minute session and a CD. You get no pictures and also still have to order the photo pass CD separately. Any opinions would be great. Thanks in advance.

As long as you want you photo session done at a resort, book an outside photographer. I heard good things about it and you get more for your money than disney is offering

Unfortunately, it is not walkable. There are no sidewalks at WDW as it isn't a pedestrian friendly place when getting from resort to resort or park to park.

But it is less than a mile. Is there really NO way to walk at all? Fields? Grass on the side of the road? Through the trees? Along the lake shore?

The monorail station at the polynesian is located on the 2nd floor of the Great Ceremonial House. The WDW monorail system has 3 loops.

1. The Resort Monorail (this is the loop that the Polynesian is on). It stops at the Transportation and Ticket Center, the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian, the Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary Resort before continuing back to the TTC to start the loop over.

2. The Express Monorail. This monorail stops only at the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Magic Kingdom.

3. The Epcot Monorail. This monorail stops only at the Transportation and Ticket Center and Epcot.

As far as water transportation, there are two options:

1. The Ferry. These are very large, double decker ferry boats that go back and forth between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Magic Kingdom. This runs from 1 hour prior to park opening if I'm not mistaken.

2. The Resort Boats. These are small boats that seat approx 20-30 people. The boat that services the Polynesian also stops at the Grand Floridian and the Magic Kingdom. The boats begin running at 10am I believe.

OK so the express monorail is the one on the second floor at the Poly ?

No, the one on the second floor at the Poly is the "resort monorail". (you will see the "express monorail" running through the station at the GCH, but it doesn't stop). The "express monorail" only stops at the TTC & MK. The "resort monorail" stops at Poly, GF, MK, CR & TTC.

Hello
Aside from taxi, what would be quickest and easiest way back and forth from Poly to Wilderness Lodge? It looks pretty close on Google Earth, is it walkable?

But it is less than a mile. Is there really NO way to walk at all? Fields? Grass on the side of the road? Through the trees? Along the lake shore?

You could take the monorail to MK and the boat to WL.

Though it isn't far, you would literally be walking on the road and crossing World Drive without a crosswalk, and at WDW, this isn't allowed. The quickest, cheapest and easiest route is to take the monorail to either the CR or the MK and then take the boat over - unless you have a car or jetpack;)

OOOO Ok got it now, thanks :thumbsup2

Ok I think I understand lol except Im kind of confused on the monorail that is on the second floor of GCH. Does that take you to MK or where all does it go ? And are there 2 ferrys, one at the Poly and one at the TTC ?

The only way to get on Monorail at POLY is 2nd floor of GCH, that is where you load on and off the monorail. The water taxi at the POLY marina is small boat that goes back and forth from the POLY, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom loop. The ferry (large boat) is only at the TTC and it takes you back & forth between the TTC & Magic Kingdom.;)

The resort monorail takes you from POLY to Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, TTC and back to POLY, its a continual loop, it stops at all these places everytime.

You know its funny , I've never taken the Express monorail, I've had no need to. All you need from the POLY is the resort monorail to get to Magic Kingdom or the Magic Kingdom resorts.:wizard:

This is completely off topic, but I couldn't stop myself. So excited - we leave in three days!!:banana:

So which would be fastest to get to MK ?

You will be there before you know it !!! Have fun !! I cant wait til I will be saying that its only 3 days :rotfl: I have a couple more weeks and I need to start packing and getting ready. The pressure is on now for me to get it in gear and figure out what to take :rolleyes1

For everyone leaving soon, can you report on whether there's a bouncback offer in the room? We don't go until the end of September, but I'm really hoping to book with a BB for next spring/summer :thumbsup2

The resort monorail is your quickest option to MK. The boat from the Polynesian is not that much longer, BUT you could wait longer for a boat than a monorail if one has just left OR they aren't running as early as you would like to leave.
