ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Also related to this, does the Poly laundry still require coins? Last year at CR, we could use our room key to charge it , which was so easy. It would be great if the Poly has this now.

I am so excited!!!!:cool1: :woohoo: :yay:
We are so close to our trip! Who cares about laundry!!? :yay:

I would like to know if we can use the room key to do laundry??? That would be easier than making sure you have the extra money on hand.

I think I know the answer to this question but thought I would ask it here.... We are staying at Poly mid- Sept. My BIL and family are staying at Contemporary. Can my niece and nephew 9 and 4 yrs come over and swim with our DD at the Poly pool?

No, I'm sorry--only at the Contemporary!;)

As logpey said... the answer is no. They check wristbands and room keys at the pool. The only pool you are allowed to swim at is the CR. :thumbsup2

Speaking of kids at the pool...do I need to carry the kids' room keys with me when we swim? I usually have just my key to get back into the building/room and our special WDW towels (I know...we're nerds) with me when I head to the pool. I know it wasn't a big deal when I only had mine at SAB.

As long as you have yours it shouldn't be an issue! :thumbsup2

Just a little over 2 weeks for me and Im having a really really hard time concentrating on anything else! Im actually getting behind at work! EEK!!

Its a bit bitter sweet tho.. My DH was laid off Fri Aug 5th.. Thankfully they owe him vacation time and he has filed for unemployment and he is working with his bro temp getting paid cash, remodling homes.. He did have 2 job interviews that went well, one couldnt offer him decent money but really wanted him, the other one wants him but will get back to him with a money offer at the end of the week. Im really really praying this one works out! Vacation wont be the same with this hanging over our heads..

I had thought about canceling but DH said we NEEDED this vacation, our kids NEED it, we have had a horrible year.. On another note before he was laid off DH added a AKL stay at the end of our Poly stay as a suprise for the kids so we have alot to look forward to. 1 night Hilton DTD, 5 night Poly CL and 1 night AKL Arusha Savannah View and a ADR at Sanaa..

If yall would send some pixie dust our way for DH to get a good salary offer on this one job..

Hope everyone has a good day.. I was contemplating playing hookey today as I have soo much on my mind but.. Im already behind as it is.,

Oh dear, I'm truly sorry, I know my DH past employer closed down completely a few years ago, its rough, but everything worked out for the best and it will for him too, almost same situation he had vacation built up and we went on trip and when we came back, he had job and was ready to start (he was called while away for job) and he makes more now ;)....sounds like your DH is doing everything right, so chin up! You need to definitely focus on work ( I know its hard, Disney) just to make sure one has a steady job during this time of transition!:lovestruc My prayers are with you.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's job! Sometimes a vacation is needed to unwind and get a different perspective. And I think everyone on here would agree that a vacation at WDW completely takes you away from your everyday life (in a very, very good way!)

When I'm at work, I close my office door and I play my sound recording I made of Carousel of Progress. I used my voice memo feature on my iphone (they said no VIDEO recordings so I thought sound was ok). I listen to Uncle Orville (NO PROGRESS!) and hear the paint sloshing in the rumpus room and grandma rocking the video game. It really picks me up. I also have a bunch of Disney music on my iphone but there is something so neat about listening to the 'speaking' part of the attraction.

Hope you can get through the day ok (and sneak over here for some chatter!)

You know when I bike ride, I typically listen to music, but I might try the sounds of WDW attractions, thats a great idea! Especially when I miss WDW, and by the way my whole family loves COP!:thumbsup2

I listen to D-cot and my fave is the music on Main St Usa, the old Tikiroom soundtrack and Poly loop..

My forever favorite park music from Disney will be the soundtrack from the Tapestry of Nations parade they used to have at Epcot :goodvibes

:cool1: Just noticed my ticker - officially at the 1 month mark :cool1:

The next few weeks are going to fly - birthday parties for both kids, kids go back to school, Labor Day weekend. Soooooooo excited :goodvibes

I'm sooo envious of all those who have wonderful trips coming up soon! :goodvibes Excited at the same time for all of you :lovestruc I know how wonderful it is to have a trip to look forward to, and I don't know how I'll get through the next 17months!! I am planning a trip to WDW January 2013. This time I WILL be staying at the POLY Club Level, and will be sharing it with my DS 15 (16 by travel time) and his BF, and my best girlfriend who is currently posted with the Canadian Military in Harrisburg, PA....we are planning 5 days at WDW and then moving over to Universal HRH for the last 3 days! I just wish I could get something booked, I am here dreaming and living vicariously through all you who have trips in the immediatefuture, :rotfl: I know the time will eventually come when I can begin planning/booking, but right now it just seems so far in the future! for now, all I can do is happily save my pennies and hope that when the time comes I get a good deal on my Poly package :cloud9: I've been to AKL CL....:cloud9: LOVED IT!, Beach Club CL :) not bad, but too much walking from resort to Epcot for my liking.....Have always loved the pics and ambience of the POLY and I Can't wait to try this resort!! (no resort-changing/wishwashyness on this trip Resort choice! :lovestruc)

I have a question regarding the Spirit of Aloha Show...we have this planned on our trip to WDW next year. I see here there are 3 seating categories...could someone explain to me exactly how one goes about getting the best one which I think is 1. We will have the Deluxe Dining Plan so I don't know if this helps or not. We will not have concierge...to me this is just an expense not worth the cost given the dining plan we have. Any information on how this works would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

I have found that the best thing to do is call dining reservations. I have booked online before (and was able to link my dining plan) and it worked but it turns out, it didn't give me the best seating category! When I called, the CM said it was odd because they had category 2 but I was only offered category 3 online. So I will always call now IF I have the dining plan and I want to book a dinner show with different categories. Just my two cents!

I agree with you! Plus... many times there is a glitch in the online system where it charges your credit card instead of "holding" it. It is always better to call Disney dining for the things that require a credit card hold if you are using the Dining plan! :thumbsup2
