I'm going to have my TA put in my room request today.

I think I'm going to do 3rd floor, Fiji, marina view.

I originally wanted 3rd floor, Samoa, lava pool view but I'm sure everyone will be going for that one. I really don't want a view of the construction.

What's my best bet?

Hard decision! I think everyone will be asking to be away from construction!

We had that view last time and absolutely loved it!!

My TA said the most popular request is 3rd floor, Samoa, lava pool side, especially on the magical deal. She said if I want a better chance for a nice view to request Fiji. I'm on the magical deal and just hoping not to have a construction view.

She said she believes they will shut rooms down that have a view of the construction.

thx for posting. that's good info to know that samoa is the most requested building. I'm there in October and put in a request for Aotearoa b/c I want ground floor so my kids can have a little space to play out on the patio which will hopefully border up against a grassy area.

From what I hear, the main pool will be open then (early Apr). Construction for the quiet pool is slated to begin mid April. Although I haven't gotten mine yet, others booked at the Poly this year have received their letter with this info.

We are staying at the Poly in December and just got our letter regarding the construction yesterday.

Oddly, we're staying in August and haven't received ours. Are you staying DVC? Though this shouldn't matter with respect to letters, right? Hmmmmm....Curious :ssst:

I am having a long going debate on which resort (WL vs the Poly). I'd like to go the latter part of April with DD4 and DS1. Sorry for asking this a few times - seems like info keeps changing daily!

Tikiman's review had me worried about the amount of construction - but his podcast with Enchanted Tiki Talk sounded much more positive. Anyone been there lately to help me make a final decision? I love the idea of the monorail - but I'm worried about the amount of construction for naps/pool/relaxation. We've never been before so I don't have a good frame of reference (good or bad). I'm willing to put up with some walls/construction trucks/etc. But I would like to feel relaxed.

The close proximity to the monorail seems pretty awesome. Walking with a stroller full of tired kids sounds nice compared to a bus.

I have no idea why this is such a tough call! Just want to make it fun for the kids without making mom a wreck!!

I understand your skepticism. Although I'm not staying at the Poly until August, I had reservations at WLV and cancelled them once Poly's villas opened up. I jumped ship last August. Wasn't about to do it again. From what I hear, as the main areas (main pool and GCH) will be opened again, you should be fine as far as being in the bustle of things, especially if you get a longhouse on that side of the resort (west). I'm so excited about our stay as well but as I'm staying at one of the DCV longhouses, we'll be much closer to the quiet pool construction! Oy!!! But just for the monorail accessibility alone, (loved it at GF last year!), we all should be in Poly heaven!!! :littleangel:

Hi. Anyone going the third week of August? We might change our early July trip to August. :sunny:

We're going Aug 16-26. Soooo excited to be staying for first time! Last year we switched to GF because of the pool construction that was to begin during our time there. But now looking so forward to our stay at one of the studio villas!

We've been at the Poly three times before -- far and away our favorite resort. But we're two days in, and we won't be back. The construction is omnipresent -- you can't get anywhere without having to shift your direction. The path to the TTC now goes along the street -- the ceremonial house just exists on the edges. Everything is dominated by construction screens.

We're staying in a lagoon view in Hawaii and paying club level prices to be woken at 7 by cranes beeping and our view is of neon-clad construction workers and huts under construction. You have to walk down the beach to see the boat parade or get unobstructed of the fireworks and everyone is crammed together on a compressed bit of beach.

We expected the pool to be closed and the waterfall shut down. But we didn't expect construction to take over every single spect of the stay. For two rooms at 800 a piece a night they should have been more honest about what to expect. When we politely complained, we were given the choice to move to GF with garden view on the furthest building halfway through our stay but nothing club level on the monorail resorts. In the end they took off 100 per room per night, which is better, but it's still 1400 a night.

Sorry to vent but its been pretty grumpy here so far. :goodvibes

I know your trip has been long over, but I am surprised you would not have gone to the GF. Is CL that important? I have never stayed CL but did stay GV at GF last year and it was absolutely perfect. Yup, even stayed in Conch Key, the farthest building out. Probably only took 5 minutes to walk to the main building. The boat was closest to us, so we took that often. Overall, a great stay. I'm just very curious about CL. To pay that kind of money and have to put up with the construction as you said, CL must be quite special!

Has anyone ever stayed in the Tuvalu or Aotearoa longhouses? We have theme park view (non club) so I assume we will be in one of these. Which is better? We are hoping to be able to see the electric parade from our room as well. IF not, we can go to the beach.

Ok silly question; do the Longhouses have Elevators? We're staying with our 4 month old and I'd love to have a 3rd floor balcony (we requested Samoa or Tuvalu) but I'd prefer not to have to take the baby out of the stroller and fold it up to get to my room. Also, is the Marina still being hidden by construction walls? Thanks! =)

What Trish said. Phone central reservations and ask them to note your requests. List thrm in order of importance.
You can't phone Poly directly. The number listed just sends you to an off site call centre. And I don't think Poly accepts faxed requests. ️POR is the only resort I know of that still looks at faxed requests.

You say that the Poly doesn't accept faxes? Then I'm wondering about the new fax system that "Touring Plans" has recently begun, which sends one to your selected resort, on your behalf, for your specific preferred room. I gave my preferences when I made my reservation but have also selected this through TP. Has anyone else used this?

Also, I faxed our room requests last year to GF and even got an email back from the CM who said that it had been received and that they would consider our requests (they did give us everything we asked for and more!)

I didn't know Touring Plans had that service. Interesting. Like @Sue M said before, I had heard POR was the only resort to actually look at fax requests any more. But perhaps we are wrong! :-)

No. We are staying CL TPV...a vacation with all of the adult kids, their spouses and 3 delightful grand daughters plus Grandma and Grandpa for a 60th birthday celebration.
