ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

...that I am counting the minutes. Exactly one week from this moment we should be checked in at the Poly and heading to MK. As you can see by my siggie, I haven't been to the Poly (or Disney, for that matter) in 30 years. Last time I stayed there I was about 12 years old.

I'm doing a HUGE happy dance and can't wait to go back and share the adventure and magic with my kids!

:cool1:  :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2: :jumping1:

Have a great time kayjaybe! My trip last week was my first one in over 30 years. It was such a magical trip that it was almost worth that long wait.

I've stayed at the Poly three times (more than any other resort at Disney) and I really love it there! But we really wanted a separate room for the kids this trip so we went with a 1 BDR villa at WL. We leave in less than 2 weeks and it happened last night - my first Disney nightmare :scared1: I always have weird dreams before a vacation and have chalked it up to 'expecting' the worst so when it isn't THAT bad, I am happy. So while this nightmare was not a surprise, it just makes me all the more nervous. Did I make the right decision? Will I be wishing for the Poly the whole time? I do like consistency in my life and to know what to expect so this new resort is scary for me. I'm pretty sure all will be good (and actually GREAT!) but I thought I'd just post this on the Poly thread. There are so many people that wonder if Poly is really that good and I just want to say that IT IS! So have fun my Poly peeps and I will surely be back to the Poly on a future trip!

I really enjoyed all your photos, KathleensKid. Thanks for sharing them! Your kids are adorable (I'm envious of those eyelashes :rotfl:).

The picture of your daughter staring down the duck is especially cute.

Packing for our trip this Friday! I am getting close to the weight limit so I cut out the hair dryer. Is there one in the rooms? I am so excited I can't wait. And to sooth my PPD (post Poly depression), we just put a deposit down for a puppy that will be born while we are gone so now I have something to look forward to after Disney! Hmmm I was just thinking maybe I should name her Poly! Although DD is into Belle right now and I was thinking of that name.

There is ...and it's a great one. Even my own hair dryer (and I'm a priss about it) doesn't get that hot. My hair dried faster and shinier than with my own.

So here's a question on the cabanas.

I have the half day reserved the first and last Friday mornings of our trip.

The first Friday - cool, it's the 5 of us (my immediate family). All is well.

The second Friday, the family with whom we're traveling (who won't be there by the cabana time of the first Friday) has decided to make a pool day of it, as well.

Can they come and be with us in the Cabana? Can we (do we need to?) add them to our reservation? The dad and son of the family will be doing a water sport of some sort - so it would likely just be the mom and daughter.

I told her I'd scope it out the first go round and see, but I thought I'd ask the panel of experts here, as well. Since the rental is by the time period, and not by the person, I can't see it as a problem, but then again, it **is** Disney, and we all know they have a different perspective on things!! :lmao:

You are right, you are just paying for the rental period, so it doesn't matter who is in the cabana - up to a limit of 6 people (I can't remember where I read the limit on the number of guests, but I know I did).

Given that I can 99% guarantee my three kids and dh will be in the pool at all times, we should have no problem staying under the 6 person limit :cool1:

I wonder if anyone who is down there get to see the shuttle after it took off? (Just a couple minutes ago!) Godspeed Endeavor!

Congratulations and have a great time! You will love the Polynesian now more than ever. It is that dream come true!

We aren't down there :sad2: BUT we did see the space shuttle launch in June 2007 - our first trip there. Nothing like standing in front of Cinderella's castle and being able to see something so magnificent from that distance! :thumbsup2 We video'd what we could see - it was very cool! :goodvibes

As if I'm not excited/stressed enough, I have to work the primary election all day tomorrow as Judge!!!! And it's going to be SO slow, I'll spend the whole day thinking of everything I could be doing at home. PLUS, who can concentrate on anything else but DISNEY WORLD when you are only 2 TWO days, 19 hours, 25 min from paradise?!?!:cloud9:

Checking in with my favoritest Dis Boards folks: the Poly Freaks and Proud Members of the LSSSG.

Need to get my Poly fix. To all of those who have just come back, my deepest sympathies. And, thanks for all the pics and reports posted here. For all of those about to go, wa-hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Wishing you an amazing time.
:goodvibes

We actually caught a launch last May ... we hadn't even been watching for one as previously when we did, they were always pushed back and we missed them. Truthfully we didn't even think of checking for this trip. We flew down, and that same night we turned on the TV at the resort and the news was talking about the shuttle launch the next day. DH and I looked at each other and said, screw the parks, we're going ... and we did ... it was amazing!!!

... oh ...
3 more sleeps!!

People obviously feed the ducks (even though the resort asks you not to) b/c they always looked in the window when passing our patio

Your kids are adorable and this picture is a keeper for sure!!

Awesome!! In the mid 90's we were staying at the Cape Winds on Cape Canaveral (fabulous ocean view room) and were woken by several loud bangs (sonic booms). It just so happened to be the space shuttle coming in for a landing and we woke up in time to see it. I'll never forget our unplanned surprise and the sounds and car alarms going off.

Sitting in the beach as I type this. The weather is absolutely perfect. They are wristbanding the people sitting at the chairs in front of the Barefoot, they are blue wristbands, and nearly everyone has them on!!! :)
