ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

We also got a 35% PIN code, and are going to the Poly in May...and also got into Le Cellier! I have to wonder if staying club level, and having ADR's being made for you, helps in getting into the normally difficult to get into restaurants.

A quick question for you all. Do you get bath robes when staying club level?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are NOT staying CL (garden level was great for us the other times we stayed at the Poly) , but had no problem getting the ADR's we wanted. We just booked this morning.
Arriving tomorrow night - staying at the POP. Arriving at the Poly Sunday morning.
Enjoy! While you're there, let me know if see any of the cabanas. Thinking of reserving one during our June trip. :goodvibes
DD is decorating the mousekeeping envelopes with Mickey stickers. How much do y'all normally tip? Is $5 enough for each night?
For DD and I $5 is our usual nightly tip. If we ask for turndown service (when not in concierge) she makes $2 envelopes. The only time I've tipped more than $5/night was when I took the Terror Squad to the Poly in 2007. With two tweens, two younger kids and myself, I tipped more. How much you tip is truly up to
For all you fellow nerds, and you know who you are, I have to share... We have the monorail going around our Christmas tree. :rolleyes1 :santa:
Yes, I am a proud member of the 'Disney Nerd' club. So yes, I am totally geeking out about this! :lmao:
We have always got robes when staying Club Level at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Boardwalk Inn.
We also got robes when staying Club Level at the Poly. The only resort where I got robes and didn't stay club level was at the Grand Floridian.
Going to Poly for the first time in Jan. I have high expectations. I do have a question though. What time does the monorail start running to MK especially on a non EMH morning?
I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!! :yay::banana::cool1::dance3:
And not just ANYwhere in WDW, but, we're going back to the POLYNESIAN!!!!!!!
I just had to share with my "Poly peeps".
We got a 35% discount PIN code, so I just booked this morning for 6 nights in May at my favorite place in the world.
AND I was able to get ADR's at both LeCellier AND Ohana!!!! We will be taking our DD's and their boyfriends, so it will be 6 adults once again at the happiest place on earth!!!!!
I'm sure you'll be hearing lots more from me in the next 6 months!
I'm goin' HOME!!!!!!
So when are you guys going in May??
We are going 5/7 to 5/15. Staying GV Club :banana:
We were orininally going in late Feb, early March but my TA talked me into May so we switched! We changed dates two weeks after our ADR date started and got everything we requested to the minute!!
I am happy to have some fellow May planners :cool1:
You should have asked one of the Grand Floridian Club Level Cast Members or called Housekeeping to ask for them. This past August during our Club Level split stay at the Contemporary and Boardwalk Inn the robes were not in our room, however at the Contemporary we asked a Club Level Cast Member to call for them and at the Boardwalk we called Housekeeping ourselves to get them.
I guess ADRs have nothing to do with Club Level since we are going GV and our wonderful TA secured ADRs to: Narcossee's, Coral Reef, Marrakesh, the Castle for Bfast, Crystal Palace, 1900 Parkfare, 'Ohana, 50's Prime Rib, Boma, Sci-Fi Dine-In and Chief Mickey; all of them at the dates and times we asked for.
Since it's gonna be our first visit, I thought it was usual, to secure all these ADRs!
No, the CL CM's use the same system. Staying CL gives you no advantage as far as being able to get ADRs over someone staying non CL. The nice thing for us,is when we are at Disney, if we change our mind or decide to add a reservation they are wonderful at being helpful with that too :thumbsup2
Even staying non CL, the lobby concierge can help you with the same thing as far as changing ressies and so forth. As a matter of fact, I have had some fabulous encounters with the lobby concierge. :love: They have gone above and beyone for me more than once.
All your dining looks great. Our dining highlights are CRT breakfast on Mother's Day and DD and DH want to do the Spirit of Aloha Luau again. I personally hope to try some new places to eat this this trip :wizard:
Well, I followed this thread for the last 18 months, so, yes, I guess, I'm happily planning... following all of your very good leads!
And maybe we can even meet at the pool on the 7...
Talking about Mother's Day, we will have Breakfast/brunch at Chief Mickey on Mother's Day and will embark on the Dream to have our Mother's Day Diner... A "Dream" come true (pun intended)!
We tried to get into Le Cellier 3 years in a row and just couldn't do it. But for our two club level stays, we did get in at the requested day/time. Coincidence I guess!
We will be at Poly May 1-7, in Garden view club level. Looking forward to it! Thanks to those who confirmed we do indeed get robes!
Yay me!! I just finished packing for our trip. The weather is a little different on two different sites. I am hoping for the one that shows 5 degrees warmer.:rotfl:
We are so excited!! :worship:I hope my children will be able to swim during one of the days there. That is always a special treat during the month of December.
Countdown mode...:dance3:
I have found accuweather to be a bit more accurate, but Florida weather is unpredictable at best :confused: My best suggestion is dress in layers. For our Dec trip we started out in sweatshirts/light jackets and by noon we were in shorts and t-shirts. Some evenings it got chilly though.
Have a fabulous trip :wizard: I hope you get to see all the other Poly FAQ members there :goodvibes
Sorry, we'll miss you by 4 days. We will be there May 19-25. :yay: I've made 4 ADR's so far & got exactly what I wanted even being a bit past the 180 day mark, too: Le Cellier, Ohana, Sci Fi & Chefs de France. :cool1: Need one more table service not in a park for the day we arrive. I'm thinking of Captain's Grill at the Yacht Club. Anyone ever eat there?
I probably WILL finally get to meet my Dis-friend, Jane & her husband, since we overlap 2 days!:banana::banana:
I always say planning is part of the magic, so enjoy the magic!
question- when i do online check-in, can i clarify any requests at that time? we are doing a split stay, and i had some issues where they had put requests for the poly on my gf ressie and not on my poly one (i wanted ground patio or balcony at the poly). for gf i have no preference, when i do online check in, if they have not corrected it yet, will i be able to modify it at that time?
As you've seen, it's not always that east to get the ADR's you want. I did not use a TA ever & made all our ADR's myself. If you call early enough, I guess you can do it if your times are flexible.
DH & I thought Marrakesh was WONDERFUL when we ate there 2 years ago. Loved the music so much, I now have not one, but TWO Mo Rockin' CD's! Can't wait to see them again in May.
DD#2 & her BF ate at Le Cellier in 2008 & said it was the best steak she's ever had. I was THRILLED to get an ADR for there! Figured it might be easier though since #1, no free dining then and #2, it is 2 credits for dinner now.
I was a bit disappointed with Coral Reef in 2008 (our third time there) after having such wonderful experiences in 1989 & 1991. We were on a different dining plan back then and actually got to have whole lobsters (even the kids) once and a wonderful chocolate mousse in a white chocolate sea shell for dessert.
We did lunch at Narcoosees the first 2 times we went years ago (they no longer serve lunch) and the food was amazing. DD#1, then 13, was happily eating pate on crackers when the waitress asked "How do you like the ALLIGATOR?"!!!!!!!!! I thought she would spit it out or at least choke on it, but she nonchalantly replied "It tastes like pepperoni." I was also able to get a lobster there in 1989 on my dining plan and since the dd's were younger, they let them get a shrimp cocktail and a fruit salad in a half pineapple as their meal. They were very accommodating. I did not even SEE lobster on the menu this last time.
Sci Fi is one of our fav's so we've gone there every time we've been at DHS.
We usually do the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, but since DD#1 & her BF are now vegans, figured it might not be worth 2 dining credits so we would try Ohana for the first time, which I've heard was great for vegans (even though I heard Chef TJ moved to the GF).
I'm sure you'll just love it all and though it is your first trip, I can just about guarantee it won't be your last. And here's some pixie dust for a magical time. :tink:
Hello everyone! Throughout my childhood, the Poly was my family's favorite resort and I'm very sentimental about it. Since then, I've stayed in many other resorts. Now, my husband and I have three boys (ages pre-school to pre-teen) and we've found that BC is the best fit for us.
But we're already staying at BC three times in one year with our APs, so we wanted to do something different for our pre-schooler's birthday in January. Since this is his birthday trip, we'll spend extra time at MK and want to be on the monorail. The Poly was an easy choice!!
Initially, I didn't plan to make any room requests. We booked garden view, and I think any location would work for us - each has its own advantages. It's a short trip, so I don't feel as strongly about a balcony (we usually request one at BC.) But now I'm thinking I should try to avoid a parking lot view. I know that at some resorts, the parking lot view has a silver lining (like a view of fireworks or something else at night.) Any thoughts about parking lot views at the Poly? If we make a request to avoid a parking lot view, any suggestions for wording?
Thanks!! :wizard:
