Allegian Airlines....is it worth it?

Hello all!

In searching for some new methods on how to get to WDW from the great white north, I've come across Allegiant Airlines. The situation I've set up is that we'd fly to Springfield, MO using our airmiles and then use Allegiant from there to Orlando. The flight is coming up at about $1200 for 5 people for this stretch.

My question is, does anyone have any experience with this airline? Is it worth the saved $$? Do they often have dropped flights or schedule changes? Not sure what to do!!

I have flown Allegiant several times from Huntington WV and have no problems at all with them. The plane was very nice, clean and comfortable. They are almost always on time and I have never experienced a cancellation.

However, be aware of their hidden fees.

Priority boarding - make sure you click to remove
Seat selection - same as above
$14.99 per ticket for online booking
$20.00 per bag each way

I do recommend the trip flex. It allows you to change your plans without a penalty.

Not a good idea. Allegiant has one flight a day. Too much of a schedule change and you'll have to change your incoming flight. You'll probably have to pay fees, assuming it's even allowed. Your incoming flight is dealyed (weather) Allegiant has the right to cancel your outgoing and return flight. At best they'll let you fly the next day but there is no reason for them to do that.

I'd only consider what you're doing if you were flying with an airline that has a lot of daily flights from your connecting airport to Orlando. JetBlue out of JFK for example.

Go to flyertalk. See if you can find a way to use your miles to get to Orlando. Alternately check flights into Tampa. I guess it might even make sense flying into Fll or MIA if you can get free flights. You'll spend half a day driving to Orlando.

What airline do you have miles?

I agree with LewisC, I would not try to fly 2 airlines in one direction. If your first flight is cancelled or delayed, you become a no show on the second.

We love Allegiant Air we have flown into both Clearwater & Sanford. Never had a problem. the flights leave on time or earlier.

Don't forget, Allegiant doesn't participate in DME. If you were planning on using this service, you wouldn't be able to with Allegiant.

The Springfield flights fly into MCO. You would be able to ride DME. Just no resort check-in.

We've flown through Allegiant several times now to Orlando. They have always been on time and never cancelled for us. We usually just get online each day until our fares are $39 each or even just one way. If we do one way then we go ahead and purchase it and later purchase the other way at $39 when it goes on sale. Did that make sense? lol Your other option would be to go through Air Tran in Branson. They are good too and if you wait you can get $64 each way with them (they do charge baggage fees). AA does fly to Orlando now from Springfield. They used to fly to Sanford, but that's not the case anymore.
