All Star MUSIC - nightmare!!!!!!!!

How long ago was this. As a renter you should have paid 0. Of course mine happened before the city passed those laws but I put my stuff in storage for over 2 years and washed then dried 3 times every single piece of clothing I owned which cost a ton. Now landlords have to at least treat the apartment and those next to and above/below at their cost with only city approved people.

Two friends have had them in the last year and my fear of getting them again has been very hard to balance with the friendship. We have so much stuff now that idk how we would ever go through everything.

Ohhhh the treatment wasn't the problem. The landlord did the least they were legally obligated to do. They didn't inspect our surrounding apartments and it was clear from the location of where we saw the few bugs (window sill, bathtub, bookcase) we did see that they were coming in from elsewhere in the building. Although I was covered in bites we never once saw one in our bed or couch or anything like that. They got a terrible bug guy to come in. My grandma was living with us at the time and we had to stay in a hotel overnight for her breathing after treatment. They were ineffective like, 5 times in a row. Eventually we got rid of all our furniture and they went away (although it's hard to know if it was that or us reporting them to the city that caused them to finally go to the right apartment and treat there, no one would give us details due to confidentiality). The washing/drying all our clothes was expensive, 5 nights in a hotel was expensive, bagging up all our belongings in ziplocs and living out of them for 2-3 months was expensive, replacing our furniture was expensive... No we didn't pay for the fumigation but no other costs are protected for you at all. The law in NYC has no teeth-- we know because we started trying to pursue compensation. As long as they can show they called a pest control agency, there's nothing you can do, even if they're persistently ineffectual. It was a nightmare.

That really sucks. I'm 100% my landlord would handle it now but of course it is my future father-in-law but I've ask before and he has said it is in his best interest to pay for everything including sending clothes and posessions away for treatment because if word gets out he didn't handle it right he'd never be able to rent another unit.

I LOVE that. So much. Respect and good landlords beget respect and good renters. I wish everyone was like that. Kudos to him, sincerely.

Oh yes, most likely the bugs were brought in from another family. My question is this...doesn't housekeeping check for these things? I would think that they should. :(

I would HOPE so :scared: but those pesky little creatures hide so well. It took DD a week to discover the stupid things that DGD brought them home from camp. :rotfl: A favorite hiding place is carpet and it's SO hard to see them. I'd like to think each and every room gets a thorough cleaning though! :tink:

I was thinking the same thing and wondered why it took reading so many posts to find someone that said this!

We had that issue at POR last year and we were upgraded to Yacht Club, our stuff was all treated and we were given money to buy new clothes for that day. If I were you, I would have expected an upgrade to a moderate at least. I agree with others, they can happen at any hotel, any level. The best you can do is check the bed, mattress, headboard area thoroughly when you get there. Use a flashlight to look.
OP - I'm sorry this happened to you, it really stinks.

I would have demanded deluxe. Club level! You aimed too low. ;)

Lol. honestly, it would've been nice BUT I did have a friend staying at sports too. So it was easier for me to stay at sports. Plus, im hardly ever at the resort anyway. I would've have been able to fully enjoy a deluxe. My touring schedule is just crazy! I was perfectly happy at sports. What can I say, im a simpleton. And quite honestly, I'd feel bad asking for a deluxe. It would feel as though im taking advantage, considering they already compensated me at that point....I'd feel bad. Make sense?

I was compensated as well...as I said, she was very very nice. No complaints from me at all. Glad you got upgraded to Yacht club. I hope I never have to deal with those pesky things again! :scared:

Oh, ick. So sorry you experienced that. Freaks me out, also.

I'm wondering what Disney (or their pest control company) uses to treat the rooms when they are found.

Apparently heat. Thats what I was told. Im not sure if they also use chemicals...but there was no scent whatsoever on my clothes. So who knows.

Because not everyone thinks a fancier resort fixes things? Because not everyone looks to score an upgrade when something out of Disney's control goes wrong? Some simply want the problem fixed and to be made whole.

This is my biggest fear with traveling....assuming we don't crash, get caught in a tornado, etc...... For the last few years we have been spraying our luggage with an bedbug repellent a few days before we pack. Don't know if it works, but we haven't had any issues. Anyone one else do this?

I feel so bad for you! No one deserves that start to any vacation!

I hope that all of your vacations - ever - are free of buggy situations - always!!!

So sorry you had to deal with this. The PPs are absolutely right . . . it can happen to anyone in any hotel regardless if it is budget or $$$. My suitcase is still in the garage & I got back from my AS Sports stay 3 wks ago. I did the laundry as soon as I returned home . . . shoved the dirty clothes in a garbage bag & marched them straight to the washing machine. I sprayed the suitcase with lysol inside & out but that wouldn't kill bedbugs. Only starving those suckers out and/or waiting them out to cycle through their lifespan will do it. That's why the suitcase won't see the inside of my house for another few weeks. I live in fear of them getting into my house. Thankful I have a garage to stash the suitcase in.

None of that stuff works. If it did, the bugs wouldn't be such a problem. Plus if there are bugs in your room keeping your luggage sprayed won't help. They can travel on your clothes.

I lived in a crappy NYC apartment years ago, that turned out to be infested with bed bugs.

I don't think most people understand how hard it is to get rid of them, and how easy it is to take them home with you from a hotel. You may get home and check your luggage, thinking it seems clean. But it's not.

The sprays won't work, washing your clothes won't work. You have to bag up everything that has fabric on it, and then leave it in extreme heat or cold for days. You then have to pull all furniture from your walls and have a pest control expert spray your walls. Probably multiple times to get rid of them And that's if you are lucky.

If you experience bed bugs in your hotel, moving to a new room does not fix it. I check our rooms extensively before I even bring a single piece of luggage into the room. If there are signs of bugs, you better believe I'm requesting an upgrade instead of a move to another comparable room. Disney should be bending over backwards to fix a problem like that, and I will hold them to it.

From all accounts Disney does bend over backwards to fix the problem when they know they have it. But wanting to be upgraded is not the same as wanting Disney to fix the problem. It is looking to score a bonus off of something they cannot prevent from happening. Fixing the problem is moving you to a new room, giving you money for clothes and such. Which is what they do.

There was a time when Disney customer service could be counted on to go above and beyond. My expectations of such customer service isn't "looking to score a bonus". Wanting to be upgraded after paying thousands of dollars for a vacation, and then having to deal with a possible infestation of highly resilient pests, is along the lines of the expectations Disney has made common.

(Edit: messed up the quote and can't figure how to fix it.)

Looks like my quote was messed up and then it messed up yours.

We will have to agree to disagree. If I had bedbugs in my room I would be happy to be moved to a new one, preferably far away from the first! I had roaches in my room one time at CBR (they appeared to be contained to the fridge) and when I called they said they would take care of them. I trusted that they did, as I never saw or heard them after that. But I still jump a bit when I open a fridge at Disney.

I work in a large office and we had bed bugs here. People carry them in on their clothing, and in their bags, it happens everywhere. They get into office chairs and the carpets etc. Thankfully the pest control company only found dead ones so they believe the preventative treatments took care of them and they did another thorough treatment to make sure they were gone. I used to work for a Taxi company and they had some cabs that got infested! They had to have a company come in and heat up the inside of the car to a high high temperature to kill them. They eventually bought their own machine to treat all of the cabs on a regular basis. One of the mechanics that worked there ended up with his house infested! They paid to have his home treated too. I do not hang up a coat at work and as soon as I walk in the door at home I strip and toss my clothing into the washer. You just never know.
